The Coach House, Great Lyth

The Coach House is one of two sympathetically developed holiday homes on the owner's 22 acre smallholding which is home to sheep, chickens and a large organic kitchen garden from which eggs and seasonal vegetables can be bought. The cottage has two bedrooms, fitted kitchen with dining area, sitting room with welcoming wood burner, and a pretty, fenced garden – a lovely place to relax and dine in after a day's exploring. Guests benefit from the use of a year-round hard tennis court and coarse fishing (including carp) on the well-stocked 1 acre pond, just 100 yards from the property. Enjoy walking and cycling in the surrounding countryside, or visit the many historical attractions nearby.

We stayed in the coachouse for a week with our 3 young children - we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the kids really loved the lake and birdwatching hut! They spent hours on end playing in the fields and especially the tennis court. The location is perfect as it is just a short drive into Shrewsbury or Church Stretton and amazing for country walks. The owners are really nice and very helpful - we even arrived to a cake in the fridge!! All in all we had a great time and we will be returning soon.

We really enjoyed our two week stay at The Coach House. The owners were very friendly and approachable. This property is ideally suited to families, with a big area available to be explored around the farm and in the woodland area. The house was warm and cosy and just a short drive from Shrewsbury. A real home away from home in a lovely location.

Shropshire is a beautiful county and The Coach House was the perfect base for exploring it. My daughter (15 months) loved seeing the sheep every morning and particularly enjoyed collecting eggs one afternoon.

Delightful, cosy cottage in secluded spot, well furnished and appointed and good parking facilities. Beautiful location, owners could not be more accommodating or friendly. Lovely walks close by and great place from which to explore the area. Note this is advertised as not having internet connection but there is free wifi in several places in Shrewsbury.

We had a fantastic time at The Coach House. The owners were very welcoming and the location was fantastic! The photos didn't do the place justice, they were amazing but in reality the whole place was even better than we expected.

Fantastic cottage, great location, very peaceful but with amenities near by. Two young children loved it, especially the piano and the tennis court. Very well equipped, delicious cakes awaited us and the owner is lovely. Even taking the children to collect the eggs. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Close enough to a town but far enough into rural Shropshire, this cottage was an absolute delight. We were greeted with an immaculate and pretty cottage in super grounds. There was even a plate of tray bakes in the fridge which didn't last long at all! Our two very young children loved the place and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, who even took us egg hunting in their hen enclosure - my three year old daughter has not stopped talking about this or about Stanley the peacock. The rooms were a perfect size, the facilities fabulous and the beds very comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone and will in fact return regularly when time permits!

Lovely, peaceful surroundings and great for children as long as they are supervised around the lake.

Rated by Mrs Buxton reviewed on 16th November 2010

The homemade cake left for us, the fresh vegetables we could buy from our hosts, together with of course more home made cakes. The fishing was good - tench etc caught - water deceptively deep. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings with absolutely NO noise apart from the odd horse going by.

Facilities were brilliant. Peace and quiet was lovely but it's not too many miles off the beaten track.
