Whitby in North Yorkshire remains one of the regions most popular tourist hotspots, and with good reason. The town is at the mouth of the River Esk, and this old fishing port retains mush character in its winding streets and hidden alleys. There is a picturesque harbour, sandy beach and the famous Whitby Abbey. Close to other seaside destinations such as Scarborough, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby is also ideally placed for heading inland and exploring the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
Really nice cottage. Fantastic views from bedroom very clean. Steps were sometimes a challenge but felt less guilty enjoying some lovely food in the town
Just back from cairns cottage after a week there with 2 friends and the wife , we love the cottage it’s on 4 floors so need to be quite fit for going up and down to certain rooms, there’s a fully equipped kitchen , lovely snug room , shower room and separate bathroom 2 bedrooms with amazing views took our breath away , the top bedroom could do with a bit more storage but apart from that it’s lovely , only down side is the steps to the cottage if you have issues with joints ect it’s not advised but we are all fit and well so wasn’t a problem for us , parkings first come first served so we struggled to start with but manage to park at the top end of the cottage so not too far to carry the luggage down , all in all a beautiful cottage situated in a great spot for access to everything the local pub called the tavern is recommended lovely pub and atmosphere the land lady and staff are very welcoming I’ve added pictures of the steps
I booked here for 3adults 2kids but didn't turn out that way four of us came good for fishing off Whitby east pier and west isn't to bad had a few nights in local bars the plough inn taddys £2.20 a pint best price we found the accommodation looked basic outside but when you went in it was a smart nice place with everything and more to make your stay enjoyable only downside really was having to leave I'd move there tomorrow if I could rent it as a home it is a great place good views and well worth the money paid
We had a lovely holiday at Cairns Cottage. The cottage is lovely and warm, well equipped and the views are amazing. We would highly recommend staying here in Whitby.
Well situated property with beautiful views over Whitby harbour. Lovely, cosy and warm cottage.
We enjoyed every second of the holiday. The views from the cottage are stunning, both day and night. We cannot wait to return in 2016!
Tucked away but central for town makes Cairns Cottage both peaceful and perfectly positioned, once you find your way down from the cottage avoiding the steps it's great! It has everything you could need for a cosy and enjoyable stay and is spotlessly clean. The views are great as are the chip shops and pubs with lots of them being dog friendly and very welcoming. We had a lovely time at this cottage and it's a credit to the owners, and considering we have had many cottage holidays is praise indeed, thanks again.
Having never been to Whitby before this was a lovely cottage to explore and discover the town from. Lovely and clean with a very welcoming feel to it. Perfectly situated for both the old and new town, never more than a short walk away from all there is to discover, we will definitely be back.
Location very good. Everything very clean and tidy and well decorated.
The Cottage was situated centrally within Whitby, it was very very clean and so nice of the owners to leave little tidbits. My parents who are 85 and 86 and I totally loved the Cottage. There was a chip shop and middle earth pub near the bottom of the stairs which were both very nice. The Cottage was so comfortable we all stopped in a couple of nights and watched TV. All in all the owners should be very proud of the Cottage, well done!
Lovely view over harbour.
We had a lovely week in Whitby. The people were very friendly and helpful. A very busy enjoyable week.
Quirky cottage and location; Whitby.
The cottage is excellent in every way, everything is provided for the average family. The décor is very stylish and the layout of every room is first class. It was comfortable and warm. The views over the harbour are fantastic, each level has an even better view. We love Whitby, we have been several times before, but never self-catering, and this was by far the most comfortable stay.
We have just returned from a wonderful four days in Whitby. We stayed at Cairns cottage which is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in, in Whitby and we have been quite a few times. The accommodation is dog friendly and was really enjoyed by our sprussel (springer cross jack Russell) Bosun. The accommodation is over four floors and is accessed via some steep steps, so you need to be relatively fit to stay here (the owners make this clear on the website). The cottage has been newly refurbished and is warm and well insulated. It has been stylishly and sympathetically done. The owners seem to have thought of everything, it is very well appointed. We had a lovely (and unexpected!) welcome pack of milk, bread, bacon, crumpets and chocolate croissants, left for us in the kitchen. There are two bedrooms one double (king size bed v comfortable) and another twin (two single beds and a further pull out bed). One bathroom with shower and one shower room. We stayed with friends (another couple and teenage daughter) and they were very impressed with our choice. The kitchen has all the equipment you could need including washing machine and dish washer. Very handy for a longer stay. The guest book was full of praise for the cottage and I was in two minds whether or not to leave this review as it may get so popular it won't be available again! Sykes Cottages made booking very easy also, no problems there... Whitby is also lovely and very chilled with lots of dog friendly places to eat and drink. We can thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Beautiful cottage with lovely views. We loved the location, and went on some great walks round town and on the beach. It was quiet and peaceful and warm; just what you want for a Christmas getaway. We had a good time and cooked a Christmas dinner in the well appointed kitchen.
Everything about the cottage was well done and well thought out. Very clean felt like a boutique hotel.
The cottage was lovely, very clean and fixtures and fittings of a high standard. The heating was excellent and the shower was great.
Lovely views from the cottage over the harbour, very close to town and easy to walk from. A warm and comfortable cottage, the owners have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it.
Whitby is a lovely peaceful place to spend a relaxing week away. The cottage was well placed to make the most of both the town and the surrounding areas. Free parking on the roads round the cottage was always available.
The cottage was absolutely fabulous. It felt like it had been decorated and furnished by a professional interior designer. Very impressive.
We arrived here on a sunday. Booked it for a week fri-fri however had commitments on the Saturday. Arrived and was delighted when we found the cottage with 2 chips shops and 3 pubs really close by. The cottage is 4 floors top floor twin room with bath. 3rd floor double room with shower. 2nd floor living room complete with wine bar. and ground floor kitchen. All decorated to a very good standard we really enjoyed the cottage and would visit again.
