Situated within the Peak District National Park is the conservation village of Winster - an extremely pretty place with a charming 17th Century market house at its centre. With a variety of other imposing 18th Century houses within the settlement - nearly all of which are three-storeys high - this is an incredibly elegant town. Just off this stylish main street, however, are a number of endearing little alleyways known locally as 'ginnels', which provide the village with a very charming atmosphere. Most famous for its Morris dancers, June Wakes festivities and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, this is a fascinating place to visit to enjoy a number of past traditions. There is a well-stocked grocers within the village as well as a post office and gift shop and two good pubs which serve food and local beers.
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Don't be fooled by the outside garden area that overlooks the fields. This area can only be accessed from the inside of the cottage via the single bedroom through a patio door so you have to go upstairs to it or it can be accessed via the dodgy stone steps at the outside side of the cottage so if you are fancying a BBQ or eating outside you have to lug everything upstairs to patio area. Bit of a pain if you forget something and have to go back downstairs to get it !!! Also because of the patio door the single bedroom does not have an opening window so no ventilation at all. OK you could leave the patio door open but I wouldn't think this was safe for a child to be in it. None of this is mentioned in the write up of the cottage. Extremely remote and roads are not passable for 2 cars in many places so have to reverse so can pass.
We spent the weekend at Aunt Jane's for a family wedding. To start with, the location and views are beautiful. The cottage was lovely and clean, and so well equipped - even tea, coffee and biscuits were waiting for us in the kitchen. The owner stopped in and we had a nice chat, and she was on hand for any questions we had. My son was thrilled with the toys and games provided. Great wifi service as there is no phone service - however I liked having time away from my phone. We hope to return when the animals are there and I will definitely recommend
Aldwark near Cromford in the Peak District. Found cottage easily followed the instructions from the owners. Converted barn, clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. Jill and Mike friendly and helpful and the welcome tea, coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated. No Mobile phone signal for EE but my friend had signal for he company. Very good WiFi signal. Cottage situated within easy reach of of Chatsworth House, Abraham Heights, Cromford Canal, Crichton tram Village, Bakewell (very busy on Monday market Day) several Shopping outlets and some lovely tea rooms and craft Centres. Lots to do and see, we will be back to see more. Great place to stay.
Fantastic two bedroom barn conversion, located between Ashbourne and Matlock. Fantastic for couple or small family with all amenities. Quiet location, ideal for walking and touring the Peak District.
Fabulous cottage, the best equipped I have ever rented. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Located in a very quiet hamlet, but only ten minutes from Matlock Bath, great for all the local attractions. Would recommend totally. Be prepared, though, very poor phone signal and intermittent wifi if you can't live without that sort of thing!
The cottage seems as though it is in the middle of nowhere but it's actually in the middle of everywhere and makes a great base. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and warm.
Liked the owners, the view, the place, just everything. We had the best holiday ever, which the owners made even more special by letting our four year old help feed the cattle. I cannot tell you how happy this made her. What super lovely people.
The property was well looked after and spacious. The owners were welcoming and helpful.
A very comfortable cottage which was well equipped. The cottage was well placed to get to local attractions and the owners were very friendly and helpful.
It was over 40 years since we last visited this farm house and we were overwhelmed at the changes. Our cottage was not only was superb, but the welcome by the owners was great. Hopefully we will return again soon.
This was a lovely cosy cottage, very snug and warm. The bed was very comfortable. Had lovely owners, made you feel very welcome.
The cottage was very warm and cosy.
A great base to walk and cycle from. The owners were exceptionally friendly and made us feel very welcome which all helped add to the enjoyment of staying at Aunt Jane's. The cottage was well-maintained and equipped.
We loved the cottage! It is very clean, nice, very well equipped and the owners are very friendly. It is a great location for a visit to the Peak District.
The owners of this property live on site and were really helpful yet not intrusive. The rural setting is perfect.
I almost don't want to say how good 'Aunt Jane's' was in case it gets booked out and we can't stay there again when we want to! We stay at two or three (reasonably priced) cottages a year on our travels, and this was up there with the best. A lovely welcome by the hosts, Jill and Mike, set the tone, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage was very clean and neat, the kitchen well supplied, and a 'welcome pack' of coffee, tea and biscuits was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage for our clothes. The bathroom had a very efficient shower over a nice deep bath. Whilst there we visit both the Ecclesbourne Valley and Peak Rail heritage railways and can recommend them too. Well placed to visit the wonderful Derbyshire Dales I have no hesitation recommending this cottage. We will certainly be back!
Genuinely the most welcoming people we have encountered on a holiday (cottage or otherwise). Very friendly, very kind to our young daughter, not intrusive but always took the time to talk to us, couldn't ask for more.
Aunt Jane's was such a tranquil place. It was just the holiday we needed. The owners couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. I was even allowed to feed one of the calves.
The house was immaculate, the owners friendly and helpful, the location very pretty.
We had a very warm reception from Jill, the owner, on the day we arrived. She also gave us a welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits. The kitchen was well-equiped and clean. The standard of cleanliness in the whole house was very good. The decor of the house was very pleasing and the beds were comfortable. The house is set in a peaceful location but is not too remote. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and an enjoyable holiday in this part of the country.
We loved to location of the cottage, it was very cosy in a remote location, but still in easy reach of everything we wanted. The owners were fantastic and very welcoming. We have never stayed in a cottage where everything we needed was there for us to use.
We enjoyed the remote area, and the friendliness of the owner. It was relaxing, and an old cottage with all the modern facilities. It was not far to visit many interesting places and walks.
The location was ideal between Ashbourne and Bakewell. As described the cottage was on a working farm, however this had no impact on us during our stay. A warm welcome from the owner and tea, coffee and biscuits awaiting us was an added bonus.
A very well thought out and equipped cottage, helpful owner, good location.
Very comfortable and relaxing, deep in the countryside. The owner was very friendly and we were given welcome gifts on arrival. Easy access to countryside walks. Peaceful and quiet.
A very nice and cosy cottage and a very welcoming landlady. It really felt like home. A very beautiful and quiet area.
The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Particularly liked the contemporary decor. The hosts were very kind and made us feel extremely welcome.
My Sister & I have just returned from 'Aunt Janes' Cottage. We had a 3 night stay, the snow fell heavily on the day we arrived but the cottage was so warm and cosy, the weather really didn't bother us. The cottage is in a perfect location for visiting nearby attractions and beautiful walking countryside. We were very pleasantly surprised at how clean, comfortable, cosy & well equipped the cottage is. We returned home very relaxed and would love to return again and reserve both properties for the rest of the family to join us.
Delightful cottage in a pleasant rural situation. Many thoughtful touhes and a welcoming and helpful owner.
A lovely cottage, excellent for children - lots of toys, animals to see and a garden with ride on cars!
The cottage was perfect. The location was 'off the beaten track' in a quiet hamlet yet not too far to drive to attractions such as Dovedale and Carsington Water. It was lovely to sit in the back garden with a wonderful view of the countryside. The owners were welcoming yet didn'tt intrude. Inside it was modern yet cosy, we didn't want to leave! Great value for money.
We left Derbyshire 10 years ago and this was an excellent opportunity to revisit old haunts and meet up with old friends. The knowledge that each day we would return to a cosy, well equipped cottage was a bonus. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Altogether, a very enjoyable week.
The location was restful and very central to all the tourist sites. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, we couldn't have wished for a better location.
The cottage was so peaceful when we arrived and it was lovely to be able to sit in the back garden looking over the wonderful country views. We enjoyed walking to Winster and across the fields from the cottage itself. It was also a very central location - Carsington Water and Dovedale were both very close.
Very helpful and welcoming owner. Excellent location for visiting Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall etc and great hiking country.
Best cottage we have ever stayed in. Perfectly clean, comfortable bed, beautifully equipped kitchen. Wonderful owners, friendly, helpful but unobtrusive. Peaceful, rural, yet within easy reach of most places. Would recommend it unreservedly.
The cottage was ideal for our needs in that we required a quiet location, good access to local areas and a clean/well equipped cottage to live in - the cottage met all our requirements.
Excellent farm location. Very friendly and helpful owner. Quiet rural location in a convenient position for Matlock and Bakewell.
The weather and the peacefulness of being in the glorious countryside of Derbyshire. The owners were most friendly and helpful. It was over too quick!
Aunt Jane's is a very comfortable, well equipped cottage in a great area for exploring the Peaks.
Good value for money. Generally met our expectations (ie your description did not over sell it) Main bedroom great character. Stairs need a little care (my mother in law had to be taken to hospital when she slipped and hurt her finger). Kitchen well equipped.
Very friendly welcome. The cottage was of a very high standard and we had a really comfortable stay which was particularly important as we had a small baby. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage.
Main bedroom very good. Easy access to lots of walking in Derbyshire. Cottage in middle of nowhere was very nice.
I found the property to be absolutely stunning and far and away exceeded my expectations in all ways. Everything was there including cafetiere and vegetable steamer - things that other landlords would not consider. The patio area was superb and the views stunning. Overall the property gets a ten out of ten. The owner of the property was extremely helpful but unobtrusive as well and nothing was too much trouble. I will without a doubt use this property again. It was a complete home from home (except for the cows!!).
Loved the cottage and the farm. The owner was really friendly and the kitchen had everything you could possibly want.
The cottage was superb and its location was wonderful - we wanted countryside and we got it. There was so much to do and see but we could do it all at our own pace. The owner was friendly and very welcoming and very helpful about the area.
Aunt Jane's is a brilliant place to stay. Homely, well equipped and the owner was nearby for any queries without her being intrusive. My daughter was able to see lambs and calves only a couple of hours old on the farm. Great location for exploring the Peak District.
Warm, comfortable and well furnished. Lovely hospitality without being intrusive.
The cottage is in a very quiet location in the country side. It was an ideal place to relax.
Service was very goiod Really enjoyed living on a farm , the dogs were adorable. The cottage was positioned so you weren't to far off the like of Buxton, Matlock and surrounding areas. The whole holiday was one enjoyed by us all without any dislikes.
The cottage was in a quiet location. The fascilities were excellent with thoughtful extra touches to welcome you. (It was almost dark when we arrived & the lights were on to greet us). Ideally situated for exploring the Peak District's natural & industrial past. So much to see & do' whatever the weather.
A lovely cottage that was well resourced.
Quiet, remote and comfortable yet easy access to a wealth of history and geography.
Situated in a prime location so many interesting things to do and see for all age groups. We wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again.
An excellent property with everything you could need. Lovely decoration and very clean.
The standard of the cottage and its facilities were excellent, the best we have ever stayed in. The owners were very friendly and we found the location central to everywhere we wanted to visit.
Everything you need in a very clean and comfortable environment.
Aunt Jane's was an ideal touring base and pretty much central to all the places we decided to visit. Nice to be able to return to such a "homely" place, after a busy day. Would highly recommend the property.
A really well equipped, cosy cottage with a nice paved patio at the rear. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. Lots to do and see in the area.
The location was peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was of a high standard, very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. An overall excellent holiday.
The cottage was excellent and one of the best equipped we have found. There were newly born calves in the adjacent farm buildings.
We found the property to be of a very high standard and in a very peaceful location. We wish we could have stayed for longer. We would not hesitate to book again or recommend to friends and family.
Clean, comfortable, modern cottage in a good location with nice hosts. They put up a Christmas tree for our stay, which was kind.
