Location Details

Situated within the Peak District National Park is the conservation village of Winster - an extremely pretty place with a charming 17th Century market house at its centre. With a variety of other imposing 18th Century houses within the settlement - nearly all of which are three-storeys high - this is an incredibly elegant town. Just off this stylish main street, however, are a number of endearing little alleyways known locally as 'ginnels', which provide the village with a very charming atmosphere. Most famous for its Morris dancers, June Wakes festivities and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, this is a fascinating place to visit to enjoy a number of past traditions. There is a well-stocked grocers within the village as well as a post office and gift shop and two good pubs which serve food and local beers.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Reviews

Don't be fooled by the outside garden area that overlooks the fields. This area can only be accessed from the inside of the cottage via the single bedroom through a patio door so you have to go upstairs to it or it can be accessed via the dodgy stone steps at the outside side of the cottage so if you are fancying a BBQ or eating outside you have to lug everything upstairs to patio area. Bit of a pain if you forget something and have to go back downstairs to get it !!! Also because of the patio door the single bedroom does not have an opening window so no ventilation at all. OK you could leave the patio door open but I wouldn't think this was safe for a child to be in it. None of this is mentioned in the write up of the cottage. Extremely remote and roads are not passable for 2 cars in many places so have to reverse so can pass.

We spent the weekend at Aunt Jane's for a family wedding. To start with, the location and views are beautiful. The cottage was lovely and clean, and so well equipped - even tea, coffee and biscuits were waiting for us in the kitchen. The owner stopped in and we had a nice chat, and she was on hand for any questions we had. My son was thrilled with the toys and games provided. Great wifi service as there is no phone service - however I liked having time away from my phone. We hope to return when the animals are there and I will definitely recommend

Aldwark near Cromford in the Peak District. Found cottage easily followed the instructions from the owners. Converted barn, clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. Jill and Mike friendly and helpful and the welcome tea, coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated. No Mobile phone signal for EE but my friend had signal for he company. Very good WiFi signal. Cottage situated within easy reach of of Chatsworth House, Abraham Heights, Cromford Canal, Crichton tram Village, Bakewell (very busy on Monday market Day) several Shopping outlets and some lovely tea rooms and craft Centres. Lots to do and see, we will be back to see more. Great place to stay.

Fantastic two bedroom barn conversion, located between Ashbourne and Matlock. Fantastic for couple or small family with all amenities. Quiet location, ideal for walking and touring the Peak District.

Fabulous cottage, the best equipped I have ever rented. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Located in a very quiet hamlet, but only ten minutes from Matlock Bath, great for all the local attractions. Would recommend totally. Be prepared, though, very poor phone signal and intermittent wifi if you can't live without that sort of thing!

The cottage seems as though it is in the middle of nowhere but it's actually in the middle of everywhere and makes a great base. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and warm.

Rated by Miss Skinner reviewed on 10th April 2016

Liked the owners, the view, the place, just everything. We had the best holiday ever, which the owners made even more special by letting our four year old help feed the cattle. I cannot tell you how happy this made her. What super lovely people.

I almost don't want to say how good 'Aunt Jane's' was in case it gets booked out and we can't stay there again when we want to! We stay at two or three (reasonably priced) cottages a year on our travels, and this was up there with the best. A lovely welcome by the hosts, Jill and Mike, set the tone, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage was very clean and neat, the kitchen well supplied, and a 'welcome pack' of coffee, tea and biscuits was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage for our clothes. The bathroom had a very efficient shower over a nice deep bath. Whilst there we visit both the Ecclesbourne Valley and Peak Rail heritage railways and can recommend them too. Well placed to visit the wonderful Derbyshire Dales I have no hesitation recommending this cottage. We will certainly be back!

Genuinely the most welcoming people we have encountered on a holiday (cottage or otherwise). Very friendly, very kind to our young daughter, not intrusive but always took the time to talk to us, couldn't ask for more.

Rated by Mr Street reviewed on 16th June 2014

Aunt Jane's was such a tranquil place. It was just the holiday we needed. The owners couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. I was even allowed to feed one of the calves.

Rated by Mrs Daly reviewed on 14th October 2013

We had a very warm reception from Jill, the owner, on the day we arrived. She also gave us a welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits. The kitchen was well-equiped and clean. The standard of cleanliness in the whole house was very good. The decor of the house was very pleasing and the beds were comfortable. The house is set in a peaceful location but is not too remote. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and an enjoyable holiday in this part of the country.

We loved to location of the cottage, it was very cosy in a remote location, but still in easy reach of everything we wanted. The owners were fantastic and very welcoming. We have never stayed in a cottage where everything we needed was there for us to use.

We enjoyed the remote area, and the friendliness of the owner. It was relaxing, and an old cottage with all the modern facilities. It was not far to visit many interesting places and walks.

My Sister & I have just returned from 'Aunt Janes' Cottage. We had a 3 night stay, the snow fell heavily on the day we arrived but the cottage was so warm and cosy, the weather really didn't bother us. The cottage is in a perfect location for visiting nearby attractions and beautiful walking countryside. We were very pleasantly surprised at how clean, comfortable, cosy & well equipped the cottage is. We returned home very relaxed and would love to return again and reserve both properties for the rest of the family to join us.

The cottage was perfect. The location was 'off the beaten track' in a quiet hamlet yet not too far to drive to attractions such as Dovedale and Carsington Water. It was lovely to sit in the back garden with a wonderful view of the countryside. The owners were welcoming yet didn'tt intrude. Inside it was modern yet cosy, we didn't want to leave! Great value for money.

I found the property to be absolutely stunning and far and away exceeded my expectations in all ways. Everything was there including cafetiere and vegetable steamer - things that other landlords would not consider. The patio area was superb and the views stunning. Overall the property gets a ten out of ten. The owner of the property was extremely helpful but unobtrusive as well and nothing was too much trouble. I will without a doubt use this property again. It was a complete home from home (except for the cows!!).
