Reviews

I booked this cottage for a somewhere to stay the night before my wedding and for a few days away after. I love how they have managed to keep that quirky medieval charm yet put in all the luxury of the modern times. I had a few people come to visit and each person loved it! Set in beautiful surroundings with everything you need on its doorstep. The stairs are steep to get up to the property but if I can get up and down in a wedding dress anyone else should find them a doddle! Beamed ceilings, real fire, country walks and pubs in the village what more do people need :) Plus the priest is a great character with many stories to tell if your interested.

The standard of the of the accommodation decor was outstanding, the kitchen was fully equipped and even had a dishwasher. It was also beautifully clean and very comfortable. The location is very central and it was easy to visit places of interest in the area.

We most enjoyed the history of the building (14th century). The owner and the locals were all very friendly. The Porter's Lodge has been restored to a very high standard and it is not just clean, it sparkles! As we had our dog with us we were pleased to be able to reach the park just a minute away up the drive.

A nice spacious accommodation well furnished spotlessly cleaned and everything you could have needed appliance wise. Furnished in style to match the character of the building. A nice warm welcome, well positioned for local attractions and plenty of walks for the dog.

The cottage is the oldest building we have ever stayed in, built in 1340 the cottage is immaculate and very welcoming. There is all you could need in the cottage for a very relaxing stay. Our Dog Toby was made very welcome and there is a great park for him to walk in.

This cottage was exactly what I was looking for. It is quirky, beautiful and so peaceful. Despite being close to all amenities (Co-op, pubs, restaurants) we were also undisturbed the whole time we stayed there. We were looking for some quiet, down time as a couple and that is exactly what we got. The cottage is so cosy and welcoming - everything is so comfortable.

The owner was very helpful and friendly as were all the people we met at the Abbey. The property had lots of character and an interesting history. The property was very clean and nicely furnished. Great to find such a nice property that allowed one small, well-behaved dog.

This is our third stay at this property, the quality, presentation and cleanliness of the Porter's Lodge is second to none. Father Philip and his team of ladies take such a pride in their product that would be hard to better.

Exceeded my expectations. I booked online from a review. I was a little scared. We came from Canada and I had dealt with the whole process on line. From the pictures and reviews I made a leap of faith. It was quirky and warm and welcoming. We were provided with a bit of history from Father Phillip, the caretaker of keys. It was convenient to the areas that we were interested in. A bit of drive to find an evening meal, about 10 minutes away. The fish and chip take out just down the street was very tasty. It was fully equipped with everything we needed and the appliances were easy to use. Very enjoyable.

This accommodation really has the 'wow' factor. Everything was considered that would make this a home from home. All of the refurbishment was sympathetic with the age of the property and it was all high class, high quality and is the cleanest pet friendly accommodation that I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. We will definitely return.

One of the best holidays we have ever had. The property was excellent, we could not fault it at all. We got a warm welcome on arrival. Polesworth is an excellent base for touring the Midlands and surrounding areas.

The owner gave us a warm welcome and a brief history when we picked up the keys. Stepping in the living room area we filled with awe. The dark beams, leaded windows, glow from lamps, fresh flowers and shiny surfaces, all made for a very warm welcome. Very comfortable, we had everything we needed.

We couldn't fault this beautifully renovated 14th Century Porter's Lodge accommodation. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed, the bathroom had a superb bath and shower with plenty of hot water. The main living accommodation even had a court jester in the corner! The owner was so welcoming and friendly and everyone visiting should ask him for the tour of the Porter's living quarters! We would like to think we would visit again.

Excellent accommodation, nothing too much trouble for the owner. Little touches, for example milk in the fridge upon arrival, and unlimited wood for the wood burner. Made to feel most welcome. Was told a little about the restoration of the property and its history which was most interesting.

Rated by Mrs Betteridge reviewed on 3rd March 2014

The property was faultless; my wife and I had a wonderful stay and will definitely be booking the Porter's Lodge again. The owner and the staff at the Abbey were also most welcoming and happily provided background information on the Abbey and Gatehouse. Should be rated 5 stars.

This unique property was exceptional on every level. We chose it for the log burner and the romantic look about the place. Such attention to detail on such an ancient property made this a most peaceful and relaxing place to stay. The owner kept us topped up with logs, as well as entertaining us with the history of this fabulous place. Underfloor heating, an excellent shower and a comfy bed in the eaves made it all unforgettable.
