Beautiful house. Lovely garden Ideal location So warm and cosy Super memories of a fabulous week One word says it all!
Firstly, reviews can be subjective. If you spent £650 for a week here your view would be different from someone spending over £2000. This view is based on us spending around £1400 for a week. This is a nice property and the location in relation to Helmsley can not be faulted. Such a short walk to the market place it's fab. Helmsley is a lovely little town with more dog friendly eateries than anywhere I have ever been! The house is large , but I think the occupancy should be less. Luckily we were not at capacity but I think it would be quite uncomfortable if we were. Firstly the bedroom with 2 extra beds, we had one pulled out and that was enough. With 2 out there would no floor space between them. The other issue is the kitchen. When the table is away from the wall it leaves very little maneuvering room for cooking and serving and feels quite cramped. I had a real problem with the lack of privacy glass in the en-suite. Most of the time you therefore had the blind down and the light on. Unfortunately the very noisy extractor fan carries on for a ridiculous length of time after the light is turned off. At night this was especially annoying. I would have used the mirror light but the bulb was missing! My other major issue was in thinking the garden was enclosed. Although I was outside with our dog, I did not realise he could get through the hedge - one minute he was there, then he was gone after a cat next door. Several minutes later he returned following frantic shouting from all the family but it was a heart stopping time. Other little niggles; Only one toilet roll in each bathroom and one bin bag in the kitchen with no spare?! Ridiculous bottom rack in dishwasher with no real space for plates and a big crash when you pulled it in or out. Constantly dripping tap in kitchen. I know I seem like I am being negative but I feel there are issues with this property that need addressing. I try to give honest reviews and I feel this is. On a final note, this is the only property I have ever stayed in where I have been asked to strip the beds and empty the bins - they said only if you have time but really?!
Just got back from a lovely week in Helmsley at Castle View. The house was very homely with a lovely garden and just a short walk into beautiful helmsley with its great choice of independent shops and a great choice of pubs and restaurants.Everyone we met was very helpful and friendly, would highly recommend.
This house is warm and welcoming in a snowy November, fully equipped with everything you could need for a family weekend away. The owners are friendly and efficient making the organising very easy. The location was great for us both walking distance into Helmsley and easy access to great dog walks. All we need now is to book again in the summer to make full use of the garden.
We stayed as 2 families for New Year 2015. The house is spotless, beautifully presented spacious & everything you could need for a fab stay. There's everything you could ever need & more the children loved it as they could walk in to the village to the sweet shop! The firework display New Year's Eve was lovely. Amazing house with a lovely feel the minute you walk in.
We visited Helmsley as a group of two families, in all there were 9 of us and 2 dogs. The house was easily large enough to accommodate us without us getting under each others' feet. Every room is beautifully decorated, with four good sized bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a lovely large kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plus a really nice, secluded garden and decking area, with private parking for one car. On arrival, it was clear that the house was spotlessly clean, and there was even a small welcome gift awaiting us. The owners provided logs for the fire, use of bicycles, ideas for things to do / see / eat, and really everything anyone could need for a great holiday on the edge of the North York moors. We spent most of our time walking, but also used Helmsley's outdoor pool, visited the castle, Rievaulx Abbey and Mount Grace Priory. We mostly ate in the house kitchen in the evening and then retired to the conservatory for a glass of wine. We did venture into the village for a wonderful meal at the Black Swan one evening - thoroughly recommended, but with prices to match the quality of the food! In all, a wonderful relaxing week in a beautiful part of the country. Thinking of returning, maybe for a winter break.
A great location, Helmsley has so much to offer, and we loved being able to walk to shops and cafes, which are only a few minutes away. We can't speak highly enough of Castle View which was comfortable, spacious, very well equipped and in immaculate condition. All "mod cons" were of the highest quality and the furniture was comfortable and tasteful. The kitchen was also well equipped and there was lots of storage space in the bedrooms. A real home from home.
The house was very comfortable and spacious, we felt at home and very relaxed whilst we were there. The property was conveniently located in a nice quiet area about a two minute walk to the centre of the beautiful market town, which had lovely quaint shops and tearooms. The house was situated in easy access of the neighbouring villages and places of interest.
This house is superb. Space, location, bedrooms, bathrooms plenty of all. Truly minutes away from market square and all the delights on offer. Lovely view of the castle from my bedroom. Thanks to the owners for !taking this place available. Oh and the sun is shining.
There was nothing to dislike at this lovely property or of Helmsley. The house was close to the centre of Helmsley with lots of attractions nearby and the house was very comfortable with lots of room for our family. We all enjoyed sitting in the conservatory in the early morning and watching the birds in the garden. It was even better in the evening when the garden lights came on as the garden is very secluded and the area was very quiet. We all had a brilliant week
Beautiful cottage in a great location.
The house was well appointed, well presented and clean. The house is ideally located for the centre of the beautiful town of Helmsley, which itself has an ample supply of restaurants, shops and tea rooms, topped off with a castle and many fine walks. Very relaxing.
Well situated very near town centre. Cottage clean, warm and 4 generations all under one roof.
5 stars for an amazing place, everything was top notch.
The property was like a home from home, everything was provided and there were lots of toys for the kids!
Beautiful cottage in a central location.Underfloor heating downstairs was brilliant. Overall a real home from home.
Beautiful cottage which was all decorated for Christmas. Everything we needed was provided. I can't recommend this cottage enough. A lovely small town with great shops. Home from home. We would return in the future.
The house is ideally situated for easy access to the town. The bunk bedroom with all the toys is fantastic for children and the garden was great for our 3 year old grandson to play in. Overall the house was very comfortable and well equipped. The conservatory and decking area of the garden would be particularly valued in summer.
Ideal location for our needs with excellent facilities.
Location of the house in relation to the town was excellent. The enclosed garden was ideal and nice to sit out in the sunshine. Definite return on the cards.
Excellent cottage and large enough to accommodate our party of 7. Easy access to the village centre which is approximately 2 minutes walk and has several nice pubs and restaurants. Very quiet location with the park (swings/football goal/swimming pool) being 2 minutes walk from it.
The location of the property was wonderful - convenient for the town/shops and parking was no problem. The garden was delightful -quiet, secluded and enclosed plus plenty of space in the property.
The location of this house is perfect. Walk into town for milk in just a minute, and walk to the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey in just an hour. Playground just a short walk away for the young children. Also, great relief to have the toys/legos in a rental, gave us downtime without always resorting to a movie. A short and easy one hour drive to York or the coast. Definitely leave a day in your plans to just hang out at home! Heated floors and the sun room were the biggest hit with us. Will return again.
The cottage was idyllic, beautiful and homely. Didn't feel like a holiday let; just like being home.
It was a great place to stay with the family, including small children. There were toys and spaces for them to play. Shopping was a short walk away and there was lovely countryside all around. It was warm, comfortable and eating at the table worked surprisingly well. Thank you very much.
Spacious property, lovely family kitchen for meal times. Perfect location.
Clean warm and well equipped house. Christmas decorations were a nice touch.
Excellent property, with high quality fixtures fittings and furnishings. Would recommend to anyone.
Castle View holiday cottage was like a home from home. It was ideally situated in the heart of Helmsley and was within easy reach of all the local shops & amenities. The owner of the cottage was particularly helpful. We will definitely be going back. Thanks.
A fantastic holiday cottage in a great location, we will be back again.
The property was exactly as described, and as family we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
A nice property in a fantastic location.
Excellent location, 50 yards from open country, 100 yards from shops. The house was very well equipped and furnished, and the range of toys, books, DVDs etc was superb, our granddaughters were delighted!
Fine house with lovely garden. Yorkshire is beautifull. Helmsley is a village with a lot of shops and many things to do.
Our party had an age range of 86 to 14 and the needs of everyone were more than catered for. Castle View is a beautiful house with quality fittings and we all loved it. My mother has to use a wheelchair and was perfectly comfortable in the ground floor bedroom. We cannot praise our holiday home enough and will definitely be back.
The cottage was a very short walk from the village, handy for the shops and eating out. The underfloor heating made it feel very cosy. Great location for exploring the area and the coast. The gift of milk and wine was much appreciated.
The house was immaculate, perfectly equipped and very well situated in the middle of a beautiful small town in a fantastic part of England.
The cottage was lovely. Very spacious and in a peaceful location. Easy walking distance to pubs and shops.
A brilliant property - perfect for a mixed party of multiple ages. Ideally located right in the centre of beautiful Helmsley. We would definitely stay here again to explore this part of the world further!
Very high standard ,very clean property with great attention to detail on furnishings, decor and guests needs. Particularly good for large group or family gatherings as all rooms spacious. Personal touches like fire laid and milk provided, much appreciated.
The house was well equipped and very cosy, we had a lovely Christmas week. The house has lots of thoughtful touches that make it feel like a real home from home. Didn't want to leave and are looking forward to visiting castle view again in the future.
Very well appointed and decorated house in a great location. Super conservatory and garden, and lots of space indoors and out. We have already booked again for next year.
High standard of fittings in the house, and larger rooms than expected. The garden was nice as well, especially the secluded decking area, and sun loungers available in the shed.
Castleview is situated within walking distance of Helmsley town. Lovely garden and conservatory. Very peaceful enjoyed watching the blackbirds in the garden . Underfloor heating in the kitchen lovely. The children loved all the games, toys and books to play with. In all we found Castleview a lovely holiday house and would recommend it to anyone that is looking to stay in or around Helmsley. Many thanks to the owners.
We particularly liked the family kitchen. A quiet location yet very close to all village amenities. We enjoyed the ability to have all the family together yet with lots of space for privacy. Excellent facilities for children (games, books, videos, toys). Felt like home. Lots of tourist info at the property.
This was a family holiday and so it was great to be able to stay together in one place. The children's toys and books were really appreciated as there is never much room to take many with you. Helmsley is also a very pretty and friendly town.
Property was very spacious and comfortable, excellent bathrooms, good information and everything needed for large family was in the house. The children loved the variety of toys and games. Owners thought of everything that may be needed whilst away from home. Great oven for feeding a large family. Excellent collection of video /dvd's. Really well positioned for short walk to lovely town.
The cottage was extremely well-equipped for a family, central and generally lovely. I spoke to the owners beforehand who were very helpful and I was delighted my three-year-old son had a large range of toys to play with. He would happily have stayed playing with them! The area is also outstandingly beautiful with much to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the cottage and would happily return for much longer.
Excellent location and very helpful owner.
Everything, plenty of room for all 10 of us. Lovely and warm and very homely. Plenty of books, DVD's and music etc. There was no need to take anything other than our clothes, fantastic.
Castle View was conveniently situated in Helmsley and within walking distance of the shops, banks etc. yet it was very quiet in the surrounding area of the cottage.
The cottage was in a good location from the town centre and well within walking distance for all the facilities of Helmsley. It was particularly warm and cosy for the time of the year and the underfloor heating was a lovely feature whilst sitting around the huge table chatting to the family.
Excellent accommodation for a family gathering and the area and weather were great. Exceptional toy cupboard for youngsters. Layout of the house and garden were very comfortable.
The property was just perfect, the location was great and the warm welcome of bread, milk, and flowers etc was a lovely touch.
We loved the location, it was fantastic for walking into Helmsley and for traveling by car to the numerous local attractions. The upstairs bathrooms were fantastic. We found the leaflets and information very useful. The heated floor in the kitchen was a lovely touch, as were the flowers.
We visited castle view with family and our two young children. It was perfect for our needs, the childrens room was fantastic for them. The rest of the house felt very homely and was very well equipt. The location was perfect, Helmsley has all you need and there are so many fantastic attractions within that area. Will definately return
A fantastic cottage set in a beautiful village. Plenty to see and do within a 10 mile radius.
The house was really lovely. Seemed like home from home. The toys were amazing for our three children, all the rooms were lovely.
Beautiful, spacious house, prettily decorated, comfortable beds, incredibly well equipped kitchen, perfect location, extremely peaceful though only 5 minutes walk from town centre. Everything absolutely perfect.
This beautiful house is even more spacious that the photographs suggest, and although we filled all the rooms we never felt on top of one another. It is prettily decorated, the bedrooms large and airy and the beds very comfortable, and three bathrooms , one with a large bath, meant no queues in the morning! Having a downstairs bedroom and shower was ideal for one elderly guest, all very accessible. Every detail has been thought of all throughout the house and the lovely kitchen is no exception - much better equipped than home! We sat 11 comfortably round the table. The conservatory is a great bonus, such a comfortable place to sit looking out over the lovely garden. The location is ideal, perfectly quiet yet only five minutes walk down a lane to the square in Helmsley and all its amenities. The house was spotlessly clean, and finding beds made up, bread, butter, milk etc waiting was a much appreciated thoughtful touch after a long journey. The large selection of toys in the cupboards and videos to watch on the upstairs or downstairs television would keep any child amused for any number of rainy days. Our only regret was not staying there longer. I couldn't recommend it more highly and would love to go back again one day.

Our group was told by the friendly owners to treat the property like a home from home, but when we arrived the property is of a better standard than our homes! It is clean, very well equipped and the underfloor heating was a great bonus. There were books, games/toys and videos also for our use. When we arrived there was bread, butter, tea, milk and biscuits left for us, which was a very nice touch. Quiet and lovely but also a convenient location for local services. We really hope to visit again.
The cottage was well equipped and in a perfect location. Only two minutes walk to the market square with its good range of shops, deli's and places to eat. There are lots of lovely walks that can be started from the cottage, in particular the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey; also there's a walk up the lane at the back of the cottage through Ashdale. There's plenty of tourist information in the cottage and the owner was extremely helpful. Helmsley is very central and there are lots of exciting places to visit. The welcome pack and fresh flowers were a delight to find in the kitchen when we arrived.

A lovely house in a great location.
Great position in the village, very convenient for surrounding attractions, countryside, York, Scarborough etc. Slept 10 comfortably, plenty of spacekitchen adequate for number, warm and cosy
This place is amazing!! Group of 10 adults stayed here for a wedding in the 'Black Swan' 2 mins away. Plenty of space for all of us. Everything was thought of down to having milk and bread there when we arrived to having the fire ready to light. (which we really liked seeing as it was snowing when we arrived). It was spotless also and finished to a very high standard. We all loved the kitchen especially the table, it was really nice to all be able to sit down to breakfast together. Castle View is also very close to Hemsley Village which looks like it belongs on a postcard. Lovely town with loads of nice little shops and pubs. We all really enjoyed our stay here and could not fault anything with it. So much so that we're hoping to return in the summer as we really loved the garden space and could not use it due to the below freezing weather.
A superb property with high standard facilities in an excellent location. Additional facilities like the toys for the children were well received. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. The attention to detail was very much appreciated. Excellent storage space. Local information about things to do and places to go was helpful. Fantastic value for money and the whole process from booking very easy. Would definitely recommend and use again.
My wife & I wanted to take my retired parents and their dog(!) away for a relaxing long weekend. Castle View is ideally positioned 5 mins walk from the market town square of Helmsley - which offers a range of good shops & restaurants. The house is fully equipped for all needs, very welcoming style, very clean and well-maintained. Would certainly recommend for a similar stay.
The nicest family size cottage we've ever stayed in. Lots of toys for children.
The property was like a home from home and very comfortable to stay in. The owner had stocked the kitchen with milk, butter, bread, biscuits and a bottle of wine which was a lovely touch and much appreciated.
Castle View was a welcoming property that felt like a family home rather than just a holiday home. It was ideally located for the town centre yet quiet with country walks and a park nearby.
Lovely house, would be large enough for a family gathering. Easy walking distance to Helmsley - 2 minutes! House very well equipped.
Lovely cottage, great location.
The property was home from home. Very comfortable and well presented. The garden had been landscaped, very pretty. It was apparent the owners wanted guests to enjoy their stay, with extras such as the bikes, games, dvd's and modern up to date furnishings! The house was in the perfect location for Helmsley, just a short stroll, up a side road from the main square.
Ideal central location but feels secluded. Perfect for families or adult only groups.
Everything was wonderful. The property was top notch and far, far exceeded our expectations. The location was just beautiful and everything was so well organised and easy.
The house was brilliant, very clean and in good order. The kids loved the fridge and had never drank so much water. Coming from London could not believe how nice it tasted. Walking into the village and on longer walks was excellent, also the historic buildings captured our imaginations. The only down side was sitting in the living room, not enough seats, suggest they move the book case into the conservatory, freeing up space in the living room for 10!!
We had a fantastic time in Castle View. The property has been well looked after, ideally situated and a very relaxing and special time was had by all. Thank you.
The location was ideal for both the coast, the moors and of course the castles, abbeys and historic houses. Also excellent walking from the house. Great holiday home for a large family.
The cottage was superb - fit the bill perfectly for a large family get-together for a 70th birthday. Plenty of space for everyone and the extra bonus of toys for the kids if the weather turned. Standard of furnishings was excellent and the central location in the centre of Helmsley meant getting around was easy. Golden memories for everyone. We had a wonderful time.
The property was fabulous, lovely house in an excellent setting, for a group with mixed interests.
I booked this house for a family get together and it didn,t disappoint we had a great week. There was everything there you needed and Helmsley is a great base to stay.
Within a couple of minutes walk of Helmsley Centre. The garden, although not overly large, certainly was big enough to accommodate an evening barbeque and was well equipped for this. The house was more than comfortable and well furnished and equipped. We we were all very happy with the property and had a lovely week in a beautiful part of the world.
The property is very well equipped and in an excellent location for exploring the area. The village of Helmsley is a delight especially in the lead up to Christmas. Very good selection of pubs, shops and restaurants.
A beautiful cottage in an excellent location.
Able to settle in very quickly and feel at home. Very well equipped particularly for children. We liked being able to walk into the town, the owner was more than helpful with ideas and information to make it a perfect family holiday.
This was the first house we have rented, it was a home from home. There was every thing we needed in the house and it was close to the shops, pubs and walks.
Excellent service and helpful information from Sykes. This is an excellent holiday home. The location is very good. The house is extremely comfortable. The welcome pack and flowers were such a lovely surprise. Thank you. We had a thoroughly enjoyable family short break and definitely would like to return to this lovely property for a longer holiday. The area has so much to offer.
A lovely home that was well maintained, very warm and comfortable. Lovely settings and super facilities. The wine was a delightful touch.
A great place to stay.
The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, with everything you would need, in a lovely area. The welcome pack was a nice touch.
The overall feeling of a home from home!
The property was a great place for a family get together and in an excellent position, so close to the middle of Helmsley and yet so peaceful you thought you were in the heart of the countryside.
Lovely big spacious property furnished to a high standard. Well located for town centre, including pubs and castle. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you could need. The garden was beautiful with decking area and chiminea for bbq and fire. The owners seem to have thought of absolutely everything, try as we might we couldn't think of anything negative - it even had bikes in the shed. If the property belonged to me I wouldn't want to share it...
A fantastic place to spend time with family and friends, without feeling like we were on top of each other.
