A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Firstly great directions from owner on finding cottage always good start. Parking for three cars brilliant saving on car park charges and not too far walk into Ludlow, 10-15 minutes, slight hill. Bright and full of light, nice sized kitchen, cozy lounge a toilet downstairs and bathroom upstairs. Heating on if needed and nice towel rail in bathroom. Plenty hot water, bath and shower available. Provided bedding and towel but if visited again would bring own pillow as quite hard, personal taste not criticism. Could have done with a spare extra towel as 5 nights. Brilliant to chill out in evening with feet up, recliner settee, after returning town. Great to have freedom to come and go as please. Owner Phil very helpful popped round on first night explained how use TV Freeview bit tricky. Great base for exploring Shropshire, went to Ironbridge, Church Stretton, NT properties and Hereford. So many wonderful restaurants to choose from in Ludlow and all accessible by foot so even better. Brilliant to discover Queens(foodie pub) up top hill. If intend to do cooked breakfast bring own oil and ketchup everything else provided.
The location of Manor Cottage was ideal, as it was easy to get into the centre of Ludlow. The cottage was well equipped with up to date facilities, especially the bathroom which looked quite new.
Really lovely holiday home. From the start, everything was great with a lovely relaxing atmosphere that made the holiday. Everything was there that we needed; all aspects were to a very high standard. We very much hope to come back next year.
The property was beautifully clean and well equipped. In a great location for Ludlow.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Manor Cottage. The house was very cosy and we liked being so close to Ludlow town centre with its shops and lovely pubs. Everything was good!
The location of the cottage was excellent. The fact the owner was next door if any thing had gone wrong was comforting.
Booked the cottage for 4 nights for short break in July. Ideally placed just outside Ludlow Town Centre, only a 10 minute walk away, with everything you could need. We didn't use the car at all when we were there, preferring to walk in and around the town. Phil, the owner, was great and it was reassuring he was only next door if we had any issues, which we didn't. I'll certainly be booking again as there is so much more to explore in this area and this cottage is the ideal base.
A cosy cottage that is light, bright and cheerful with a great location and the owner is next door. We really enjoyed our holiday there.
Enjoyed every minute there.
Another wonderful holiday in Ludlow. The weather was almost tropical at times despite it being on Easter. This was our second visit to Manor Cottage, and it certainly did not disappoint. Located within easy walking distance to the town centre and all its many delights, the owner could not have done any more to make us feel welcome. Given the number of dogs that one sees in and around Ludlow it was surprising to discover that Manor Cottage was only one of two properties prepared to accept our two four-legged friends. For this alone, we were most grateful. Who knows, it will be hard to find anywhere better!
Fantastic location and wonderful cottage.
A very cosy cottage in an excellent edge of town position.
The location was superb. The cottage, as it was so well equipped felt like home and very cosy. The owner introduced himself and told us where he was if we needed him.
Having read some of the other reviews I realise that most of what I wanted to say had already been written. However on the trip home it came to me that I had not written in the Visitors Book so I am hoping to redress that oversight here. We were a small party of myself my brother and my dog. We all felt at home immediately. The cottage was beautiful and even though there was a busy road and a railway nearby neither effected us. We did not make much use of the large enclosed yard, but on our next trip we intend to have a BBQ using local sausages & meats. A very enjoyable stay, beautiful surroundings, wonderful cottage, pleasant unobtrusive owner all made for a truly terrific holiday.
Well appointed, very comfortable cottage within easy walking distance to Ludlow. Ideally situated, with plenty to see and do around the Shropshire area. Highly recommended.
A great base for enjoying all that Ludlow and the surrounding area offer. Manor Cottage is comfortable, clean and well equiped and only a hop, skip and jump from the town centre which means that you can forget the car and walk to all the great cafes and restaurants. The cottage is very dog friendly with tiles from the front to back door and a secure, fenced backyard. Ludlow also has a number of bars and eateries that permit you to take your dog inside. If you are not a dog owner don't let the fact that this property allows pets to put you off, there are no doggy smells. Highly recommended.
Proximity of property to the centre of Ludlow - a lovely place.
We loved this cottage, it had everything we needed to for a great week in Shropshire. The location was ideal, just a few minutes walk into Ludlow where there is an abundance of restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs, walks and a castle ! The cottage offered comfort, warmth, plenty of hot water and all the bits and bobs you need except for a set kitchen turning tongues - which bought at the discount shop in town. We hope to stay again in 2015.
Fabulous cottage - homely, warm, high specification, ideally located, and parking too. Will definitely return.
All positive in every way. A great cottage, and perfectly thought through by the owner, who turned out to be very nice and extremely helpful and friendly.
Great location and lovely cottage. A real home from home.
Cottage in right location for us and was exactly as described. We also met the owner who lived next door, but we had complete privacy and we felt that the cottage was ours. No notices saying don't do this and that and the fresh flowers were appreciated.
It was a very relaxing week in a lovely location. The cottage made an ideal base for exploring the area. It was well located within a short walking distance of the town.
Lovely comfortable cottage, superbly well placed to walk into Ludlow. Lovely warm welcome from the owner who lives next door but very unobtrusive throughout the test of the visit. Marvelous!
The landlord Phil is wonderful. The location in a few minutes from town. The cottage is very comfortable and immaculate. Off road parking for 3 cars. Garden furnature to sit outside. Quiet location. If I could live there I would!
Lovely location, great Cottage and very modern, we felt very comfortable and at home.
This is the third time we have stayed at this home. The owner couldn't do enough for us. So central to shops and everything is so beautifully looked after. Fab, beautiful place to visit. Furniture top quality.
The cottage is well appointed and 5 minutes from town centre. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a weeks stay.
Perfect location for viewing the surrounding areas. Good choice of restaurants etc, many within walking distance. Would love to go back again, so much to see - a week did not seem enough.
Lovely and relaxing despite the wet weather!
Stayed for a week in April. The cottage was comfortable, warm and quiet with everything we needed. Everything worked well and the sofas were exceptionally comfortable for evenings in. The owner was friendly and helpful and all arrangements worked flawlessly. Highly recommended.
Comfortable beds with crisp white bedlinen, a sun filled kitchen, a modern bathroom with a deep bath, a cosy snug for evenings and off street parking. We were so pleased with this rental, we could walk into town, the dogs were safe in a fenced back garden and parking was never a problem. The house itself is detached and has been modernised to a high standard. The electrical goods were Bosch or equivalent high quality, a digital radio and a good barbeque were amongst the extras that the owner had no obligation to supply but had, which seemed typical of the generous feel of the house. I hope to stay there again.
Ludlow! Lovely area for walking and exploring. Very pleased with cottage. Clean, warm and inviting. Good that the owner popped in from next door to say hello. Would return and recommend.
The location was great! Eight minutes to walk to town and six ,imutes to walk back down the hill. Car parking space was a real boon as there was no other off-street parking nearby. The house was modern, delightfully decorated and well equipped. Given the proximity of the road and railway, our fears about noise were unfounded. The linen was spotless and the beds looked very pretty and the bed we used was very comfortable. We had some difficultywith the low ,modern settees but we discussed this with the owner, who lived in the adjacent bungalow and he agreed that they should be changed. Ludlow is a beautiful place and we look forward to returning -hopefully to Manor Cottage!
An excellent location and overall a very comfortable property that is equipped with everything you need.
Really nice clean cottage. Only a five minute walk into the centre of Ludlow. Owner was very helpfull, whilst not intruding at all.Lots of National Trust properties nearby. Lots of lovely restaurants in Ludlow. All the locals very friendly. Would definetley stay again. One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in.
The location is ideal for anyone wishing to take advantage of everything Ludlow has to offer.
The cottage was very comfortable and in a good location for visiting the surrounding countryside which was lovely. The walk into the town for our meal in the evening was very easy, only 10 minutes up the road. We thought Ludlow was a really nice town, lots to see.
Good proximity to Ludlow and the surrounding area. Excellent walking from the doorstep and the shopping in town is great! It included bakers, butchers, deli's and a farmers market for fresh local produce.
We enjoyed Fantastic views. Ludlow is full of history.
A lovely clean cottage in a good position for the town centre of Ludlow.
Great cottage, very clean and comfortable and only 5 minute walk into centre of Ludlow. Owner friendly and very helpful. Would not hesitate in booking for another visit.
The house was excellent, the rooms very clean and comfortable. I would reccomend it to each of my friends and neighbous, if they ask me for.
Over the last 2 years I have rented either houses or flats on at least 5 occasions. Without doubt Manor Cottage was the best and therefore a significant contribution towards an excellent holiday. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail shown in both design of the building and its fittings (better than my own home). It was also a nice touch for the owner to call round to check how we had enjoyed our stay.
Large, airy, pleasant, good size and comfortable. Accommodation was well situated. Good parking walking distance to centre for meals, shops etc. Good choice of places to eat all of a high standard. Ludlow was an excellent base for exploring other areas.
A great cottage and the owner was very kind and helpful. Ludlow is fantastic to explore and it was a great base for days out around Shropshire.
The comfortable and well equipped cottage together with its most pleasant and helpful owner. The location of the cottage both in relation to Ludlow and good roads to other interesting places we visited in Shropshire, including Ironbridge and The Severn Valley Railway.
The cottage was within walking distance of the town. The beds were very comfortable. Plenty to do within an hours drive of the property.
Ideal location within easy walking distance of Ludlow but very quiet at night. A good walking, cycling and touring base. Would definitely return, an excellent cottage.
After weeks of preparing for Christmas – shopping, wrapping, unwrapping, more shopping, eating, drinking, more eating, more drinking and, of course, making sure Santa and Rudolph had their fill of mince pies and carrots, a holiday was just what I needed – and as soon as possible. So I grabbed myself a coffee, a handful of Quality Streets and headed for the computer. Within a few minutes, I found myself happily browsing holiday cottages with Sykes Cottages. Their website is excellent (www.sykescottages.co.uk) and so easy to navigate. I fancied going to Ludlow in the heart of beautiful Shropshire, not too far from where I live – an important factor when travelling with a toddler and two dogs. I typed in my preferred dates, location, number of bedrooms etc, then clicked on to the ‘more options’ button and added a few other things like ‘number of pets’ and ‘close to shop’. Within seconds a list of properties came up and I soon spotted Manor Cottage (ref: 2806) and read through the details. There’s a great option to view supersize images and once I’d done this and checked the cottage had everything I was looking for, I was ready to book. And that was so easy too – I did everything online and had a full confirmation almost instantly. I booked a week’s stay from the end of February and packed a good stack of winter clothing. But luck was on my side…the weather was balmy – clear blue skies and sunshine, and mild enough for a glass of wine on the sunny patio while my little one was having his afternoon nap! Enough of the weather; what about the cottage? Well I can highly recommend Manor Cottage and would definitely stay there again. It’s a stone’s throw from the charming medieval centre of Ludlow (ten minutes at most on foot) and is very private with ample parking. Phil, the friendly owner, lives next door and was there to meet us and show us around. The interior is bright and attractively appointed, with a superbly equipped dining kitchen (I want to do something with ours now!), a cosy lounge with squidgy leather sofas and a downstairs loo. There are also two entrances with tiled flooring – great for bringing in dogs if the weather did happen to be wet. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms – a king-size, twin and single – and a generous family bathroom with an oversized bath and shower over. There’s also a handy airing cupboard on the landing. Our days were spent exploring the lovely town of Ludlow and its spectacular surroundings – it really is the most magical place. We called in at the local tourist office for a map and a few leaflets and found something new every day. We visited the castle, which is right in the centre of town, enjoyed riverside walks and pottered around the market and shops. Come lunchtime, we had picnics on benches and alfresco pub lunches – the weather really was fabulous! With a toddler and two dogs in hand, we were fortunate to be able to do everything on foot and only took the car out twice once we’d parked up. One time this was to visit the Ludlow Food Centre, a couple of miles away, to pick up a few local delicacies for supper. We also called in at The Clive (very apt we thought as we were on a Clive Sykes’ holiday) and found out about a lovely circular walk back to Ludlow through Oakly Park in the Earl of Plymouth’s Estate. And at the end of every day, we had Manor Cottage to look forward to – it really is the perfect home-from-home. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and thank you to Sykes Cottages for arranging everything for us.
One of the best cottages we have stayed in very clean and comfortable. The location was good within walking distance to the town centre.
What a lovely cottage! The property is extremely well equipped (and dog and toddler friendly too), with a south-facing patio. And it's in an ideal location for exploring the charming Medieval town of Ludlow on foot.
The cottage was lovely and had all the amenities of a working home. The owner came and met us on arrival and had ensured the heating was on so it was lovely and warm when we arrived.
Excellent service from the booking agency and also the property owner, who made us feel very welcome. The property is very comfortable, contemporary and well designed and equipped. The amenities in Ludlow are superb; shopping is very good, excellent restaurants and cafes and the tourist attractions in particular the castle are superb. Ludlow is situated ideally for touring the Welsh borders as well as the lovely county of Shropshire. The cottage was a lovely base to come back to after sightseeing or after an evening out, its location isn't exactly rural and it is in a built up area but nevertheless the surrounding area can be seen from the cottage and it is extremely close to Ludlow centre.
A perfect holiday home, very comfortable and spacious, a lovely warm retreat to come back to. The contemporary decor and fittings made for a real calming atmosphere. Cottage well placed for visiting Ludlow and surrounds. Generally a well thought through holiday let with everything you need for a comfortable base.
Very convenient for town with good parking
Very good location. Convenient for exploring the local area. Comfortable and clean cottage.
We are pleased to report the cottage was exceptional. As a Chartered Surveyor I noted it had been renovated to an above average standard. We would certainly return. It is convenient for the town centre and has excellent parking. In a nutshell a very good weeks holiday!
