We have been staying in Ailene’s cottages for many years now around Christmas time. You COULD NOT wish for a more AMAZING host, site and pair of cottages. Hopefully we will be back one day when funds allow xxx
Lon Cottage & Muir Iosal Cottage - both cottages are the same layout. The cottages are excellent. Ground floor open plan kitchen/lounge/dining room. A large double bedroom with en suite. 2 further double ensuite bedrooms upstairs. Parking space along side. Enclosed garden makes this pet friendly (dogs welcomed - there was poop bags & biscuit left out for us on arrival) The cottage has all the amenities. We arrived to a lovely welcome package - milk, tea/coffee, cake, sweets & prosecco. There is a children's play area & the owners farm next door has lovely paddocks filled with animals - alpacas, goats, donkeys, sheep, meerkats, ducks, geese, chickens & more. There is a small nature reserve up the road - 2 mins walk. A ruined kirk. A walking route down to the River Tay. And 5 minute drive to Clunie Loch - for swimming, paddle board, kayak etc. Further afield - Blairgowrie is 5 miles away & Dunkeld 6 miles. This is a lovely home from home with loads to do & see in the surrounding areas. The owner couldn't have been more helpful & welcoming.
We rented both cottages for a week for our friends and family in February to celebrate my 60th birthday. We found the cottages to be exceptionally well appointed, warm and very clean. Having an en-suite per room too was fantastic for our guests. The welcome hamper pack, milk and some bubbly was a lovely surprise. Both cottages were equipped with everything we needed for our week. Access to meet the Rare Breeds on the farm was one of our highlights adults teenagers and children all adored the alpacas and the baby pygmy goats!! Plus dont forget Hettie! Ailene and Stewart made us all feel very welcome and made sure we had all we required. Also recommended local restaurants are the Meiklour Arms ...we had a super lunch..and the restaurant Uisge where we had dinner one night. All in all a memorable week for us all and we will be back!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND...
Ailene The owner cannot do enough to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as you would like. This is our second visit to their property won’t be the last The place is spotless and everything we needed was there. The bedrooms Bathrooms are very large. Comfortable beds We found it a great base for touring getting to tourist sites. Would recommend a visit Dukeld RSPB to see Beavers.
Beautiful comfortable cottage, with lots of space and plenty of amenities. Perfectly located for exploring the south of Cairngorms. We have spent a lovely week walking in various locations and it was lovely to come back to such a comfortable cottage. The welcome pack on arrival and a bottle of bubbly, as one of our party, was celebrating their birthday, was a lovely touch as were the fresh eggs and milk. I would definitely recommend a visit to this cottage and would return again!
Fantastic cottage with everything there you could need. Huge comfy beds, really spacious with excellent taste in furnishings & decor. Lovely quiet location. The owners were really friendly & helpful and we really want to return for more holidays here.
There are so many things to rate about this cottage and location; it's quiet but close to everything you'd need - pub, shops, petrol, plus lochs, wildlife and woods. We are going back again we loved it so much.
The owner of Muir Iosal could not have been more friendly and helpful to us. Muir Iosal is a very comfortable, well placed cottage in a delightful setting, with 3 double bedrooms all with en suites, this was a real bonus.
We arrived to be greeted by a welcome hamper of local goodies, a dozen eggs from the owners chickens and milk, from then on we were completely at home. Our party made use of the three double bedrooms all with en-suite which in my experience of rental properties is uncommon. Our party were all grown ups but we so enjoyed the different animals that the owner keeps, goats, alpacas, donkeys, chickens etc etc, children would love all this. The icing on the cake was when we were offered a lift to the local pub where we had booked a meal, meaning all our party could enjoy the evening. The cottage is well placed for visiting the area, we particularly like nearby Dunkeld, lovely community garden and good shopping.
After a lot of holidays over the years spent in the UK this location tops it without any doubt. In one word: Outstanding!
The accommodation was even better than shown in the pictures and the location is ideal for us. We could not have wished for better in any way unless it was to regret it was only a week.
Wonderful location, wonderful cottage, wonderful scenery and wonderful hosts! Various animals are kept such as pygmy goats, alpacas, miniature donkeys, ducks and chickens. The owners are a very accommodating couple and the working farm, cottages and surroundings are a credit to them. The cottage itself was beautiful, extremely clean and well furnished with its huge beds to get totally immersed in dreamland. The pictures on site certainly didn't appear to give full credit to the luxury we walked into; it was much bigger than expected too! We will definitely be back! Thank you both for a lovely experience!
We loved Muir Iosal and its spaciousness. The quiet was wonderful and along with the countryside walks and close proximity to both Blairgowrie and Dunkeld it made for a relaxing break for us.
The cottage and fixtures were fantastic and everything that you would need, even a warm welcome from the owner. A stunning location, overall a fantastic week and we would highly recommend.
Cottage was in an excellent location for us; far enough away but close enough to travel to surrounding towns. Dogs were very welcome with plenty of walks. Cottage was brilliant with everything you could need for your holiday. Cottage owner was very friendly and welcoming, with welcome hamper a fantastic touch and start to the holidays.
Very spacious and well-appointed accommodation in a picturesque location.
We have just completed a week's stay in Muir Iosal cottage, 4 miles outside Blairgowrie and Rattray and cannot recommend this cottage enough. Spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable and well-stocked with every item you could possibly need on a self-catering holiday, also a compendium of games and playing cards and bookshelves full of reading for all ages. There are three, good-sized, double bedrooms here, all en-suite (great showers, downstairs bath) and televisions in each room. The largest is easily a family-room with an extra bed in it. Before you arrive for your holiday, Ailene will contact you to ask how you want the rooms made-up, either as doubles or twins. As doubles, the beds are large king-size and very comfortable indeed. You will also find fresh milk (your choice) and eggs upon arrival and a welcome hamper of treats is also generously provided. There is a basket full of brochures and suggestions for places to visit in Perthshire and beyond, as well as maps to help plan your itinerary. There is also a gas BBQ and large table for outdoor eating in spacious, enclosed area outside the front door. Swings for children of all ages, too. Four of us (and two dogs) stayed here, although we were originally meant to be a party of six. We were very comfortable and happy at Muir Iosal and would certainly return to stay here. Recommend a visit to the lovely, little towns of Pitlochry and Dunkeld (both within 30 mins drive), scenic walks at The Hermitage (within 15 mins), a visit to The Famous Grouse distillery and Crieff town (within 45 mins) and shopping at the House of Bruar, (within 60 mins, northwards up the A9.)
Liked the excellent standard of the cottage and the very peaceful location.
We (3 adults, 3 kids + 3 dogs) booked Lon Cottage (one of the three cottages that makes the Muir Iosal courtyard) for my sisters 40th birthday. We chose it over others as the accommodation was based over 3 rooms instead of a lot of others that were only 2. Also it has hard flooring which we always look for when travelling with the dogs so that we don't have to worry about muddy paws! Despite having excellent directions to get to the cottage we still managed to get a bit lost in the country lanes but our host Ailene was more than helpful and we eventually found our way! (HINT: if you're arriving in the dark look for the Scottish Tourist Board sign, as that shows up better than the Nether Kirkton one) Ailene came to greet us and show us around - the cottage was lit and the heating was blaring which was a wonderfully warm welcome, and then we found a luxurious welcome hamper and bottle of wine on the table, and even better - freshly laid eggs in the fridge! The cottage is absolutely HUGE - much more spacious than it looks on the photos, and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished. There was nothing we wanted for during our stay - even things like spare light bulbs were in a drawer. We didn't want for anything whilst we were there - the beds were comfortable, the showers were hot and powerful and everything was well equipped. Blairgowrie is close enough to provide pub meals and cafes, whilst the cottage is rural enough to provide ample walking opportunities on your doorstep or close by (we walked in Bogles Field mostly on the way into Blairgowrie - very popular with dog walkers). The highlight of our stay was going to Action Glen at Crieff Hydro too, which is not far from this cottage and offers a wealth of things to do for all the family!
This is the best place we have stayed, there was plenty of room for the dogs, we had a very nice welcome and anything you needed would be there. The cottage had everything you would need and more.
Fantastic and the owner couldn't do enough for us.
From the moment we arrived, until the time of our departure, we were delighted with the property. We were welcomed by the owner, who gave us a quick tour and explained all we needed to know. The welcome pack was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. The cottage is well appointed, roomy and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Blairgowrie and Dunkeld are easily reached as is the A9 for travelling further afield.
We thought that this holiday cottage was excellent. It doesn't happen very often that you book somewhere and it actually turns out to be better than it looked on the website! It is in a great location as it was very peaceful with lovely views and there are also lots of interesting places to visit nearby. We have two young children so this property was brilliant for us because there is plenty of space inside and outside there was a swing and slide which our little boy loved! The owners of the property were so welcoming and friendly. They left us a hamper which was really thoughtful and we would definitely stay here again.
We could not have asked for anything better and to be greeted by the owner on arrival was ideal... A shame the week had to end, we definitely plan to visit again.
This was by far the best cottage, out of many, we have ever rented for a holiday anywhere in the UK. Everything possible was available. The bedrooms are immense as are the beds; we had them made up as doubles (super king size) but they can be twins in either room, so very comfortable. The cottage was very warm and comfortable all round. The location was perfect for touring north into the Highlands and south to Edinburgh and Glasgow. We will definitely try to re-visit this cottage again sometime; very highly recommended.
