Reviews

Booked for a week because it looked nice on the website and reviews were OK.On arrival it was in such a dirty, rundown state we didn't stay .Didn't unpack the car just couldn't possibly stay. The front door/porch area was covered in years of old thick black cobwebs and dirt so first impression was a fail. You can't see this on the website pictures BUT SURELY THE OWNERS COULD SEE IT ? The kitchen ornaments gadgets etc were covered in a years worth of greasy caked on dust, patio area had garden furniture held together with masking tape they were so old and mould and dirt all around doors and frames,a familiar story throughout, broken garden pots and rubbish on patio. The bathrooms were an absolute disaster . Bedroom 1 one en -suite shower had no base board after an unrepaired leak with exposed pipework covered in mould.. years of untreated mould and grime all around shower base, unacceptable and gross. Shower above bath in main bathroom was scalding hot as the thermostat was broken so unusable with years of black grime and mould on the window frame and around the bath seals.Unacceptable. Shower in attic bedroom so small unfit for purpose. Master bedroom was worst room, filthy with years of dust and cobwebs on all skirting boards especially around sides of bed ,horrific,no way were we sleeping in that bed it hadn't been pulled out and hoovered behind in years ,behind the bed was a horror story of black cobwebs .Are guests expected to sleep inches away from that ? just sheer laziness from the housekeeper. Big black bin liners on the top of the wardrobe in here full of old blankets and broken window blinds covered in yeas of dust .Why ? just why? Loads of trouble/hassle getting a refund would only refund for 6 nights eventually after calling every day for weeks.but we paid for 7 ? So why only refund for 6? Very very difficult owners and Sykes Cottages who we booked through not on top of their game at all, the housekeeping standards on this property are not up to todays standards they were in total denial even though I had lots of photographic evidence. Both owners and Sykes very very difficult to deal with didn't like at all we had complained expected us to just roll over and put up with it I think? Had to threaten legal action to finally get a refund for our ruined holiday. We didn't stay, didn't unpack the car and left after half an hour but they charged us for a nights accomodation refunding only for 6 nights . Dishonest and grubby owners, difficult and obstructive letting agents. (SYKES COTTAGES). Avoid...unless you like black cobwebs and don't want a shower !

We visited with 2 adults and 3 children. Ideal for families with young children. Beautiful house, modern and very tasteful interior. Very attractive exterior. Large garden with modern outdoor seating. Extremely homely and comfy. Everything provided for inside with helpful welcome pack and info on the area. Perfect base from which to explore Somerset. Highly recommended.

We thought the bedrooms especially nice with comfortable beds - the whole cottage was beautifully decorated and welcoming. The location in Porlock was great with plenty of eating places. We were there during the heatwave which certainly added to the holiday!

We had the most enjoyable stay back at Enfield. It's a beautiful family cottage in a perfect location to explore surrounding areas. We loved it so much and will return again.

It is not often that the the actual cottage looks even better than in the photos provided, but in this case Enfield was. It is a lovely place and very comfortable and the décor is fantastic. The beds were comfy too! It was also very well equipped and the location was so convenient for everything we needed. We had a lovely week and thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

Excellent cottage in an excellent location. The house was beautifully decorated and really well-equipped, especially the kitchen. We couldn't fault it and would go as far as saying I could quite happily live there!

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was well appointed, beautifully decorated and had a very cosy feel, epically after a long days out walking in the local countryside. We would highly recommend it.

What a wonderful cottage, it was like a home from home. Overall we were very impressed with the décor, the kitchen was very well equipped and the wood burner was an added bonus. We will most certainly be returning to spend another week, hopefully next year.

The cottage is situated in the lovely little town of Porlock, along a small, narrow road just off the main through road. The cottage was in a lovely spot and was on first look very clean and tidy. As with all holiday rentals there were a few minor issues such as some light bulbs not working, and one of the mattresses being badly stained (although the mattress protector was clean), but overall we were more than happy with the stay. The biggest disappointment was one the day of arrival when I tried to contact the owner regarding the broken TV remote and with a question on the boiler he didn't answer or respond to my request for her to return my call. Parking is on a first come first served basis, so be prepared to have to park around the corner, but this wasn't ever a problem, apart from the one rainy day we had. The cottage is situated within easy walking distance of the shops, and tea rooms, and the town has a fantastic playground that my 8 year old loved. The cottage advertises itself as a 10 min walk to the beach, which in fairness is a little of an exaggeration, as unless there was a shorter route that we couldn't find, it was at least a 20 min walk to a pebble beach, no sand castles I'm afraid. To sum up, we had a nice stay in a clean comfortable cottage.

We had the most wonderful holiday at Enfield. The cottage was fabulous, cosy, and decorated & equipped to a high standard. The garden was beautiful, a sun trap with lovely comfortable patio furniture. This cottage is in the perfect location to explore Porlock & surrounding areas. There are amazing walks right from your doorstep. This property is very close to local shops/restaurants & a great play park for children. The perfect holiday getaway for all the family. We would definitely return!

A lovely cottage in a very pretty village. The cottage was very nicely decorated, most comfortable and had a peaceful garden. Pubs and shops were just a few minutes' walk away and there's lots to see in and around the area.

Enfield Cottage is an absolute dream, we had the most perfect family holiday. The village of Porlock is the perfect 'chocolate box' village. We would have no hesitation in recommending Enfield cottage. Even the sun shone all week.

Cottage was beautifully furnished and felt like someone's home, rather than a rental place (normally furnished with quite plain/minimal furniture). Lovely character period property and great location to pop to village shops when required.
