We stayed here last minute as our holiday to Wales was locked down . Anyway we lucked out because we love the area great walks either on the coast or Yorkshire dales. The cottage is very clean and comfortable with everything you need. The adjacent cafe serves great food and alcohol at very reasonable prices, without having to drive back...bonus . Our dogs were safe and secure in the little garden . We will definitely return

This little cottage is easy walking distance to the beach, there is a little park even closer. Prince cottage is adjacent to the Kaskane restaurant, which serves excellent food. Plenty of parking by the cottage. There is a bus stop adjacent to the car park. The cottage kitchen is basically equipped. the living room is large and comfortable. The bedroom blinds and curtains ensured a good nights sleep in the super comfy bed. We stayed a week walking the Cleveland way, this cottage was a nice place to return to at the end of the day.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and they made us feel very welcome.

Rated by Miss West reviewed on 6th September 2014

The cottage was absolutely spotless, very comfortable and with new/modern furniture. We loved the location and the friendly but unobtrusive welcome. Also the heating system was great and easy to control using the thermostat. There's nothing I could add to improve the cottage. Easter egg, wine and milk, tea and coffee were a thoughtful touch and of course being able to have our dog in the cottage was a key criteria.

Rated by Mrs Smith reviewed on 23rd April 2014

We loved the cottage, the area, everyone friendly, central to everything we wanted.

Rated by Mrs Yeoman reviewed on 30th September 2013

We arranged to stay in this cottage through Sykes cottages and was asked to telephone the owner 48hrs prior to our arrival for the key arrangements and this we did he told my wife to call again 20 mins before we arrived which we did only the call went to voice mail. We arrived and the owner had still not returned our call but as we pulled up in front of the cottage a young woman appeared and gave us the keys. Next door the cottage was occupied by the owners daughter who informed us that they had a flood a few weeks earlier and the main road in and out was blocked off and the only road in and out was up and down a 1 in 4 hill which was in places not wide enough for two cars to pass. This we had found out when we arrived to see the road diversion signs. No one from Sykes cottages had bothered to inform us of the floods. We arrived on a Friday and the weekend passed uneventful but we did notice how damp the cottage felt. The kitchen was very dark and you had to have the light on almost all the time you were in there. The cottage itself was quite nice and we were visiting the surrounding area. Then came Sunday night we were woken by the noise next door as our bedroom backed onto their bathroom and they had a bedroom above their lounge. 6am we were woken again and could not go back to sleep with the noise and at 7.30am eventually got up. The next night and morning was a repeat again we were up at just after 7 am . We were both fed up with the noise so decided to cut short our holiday and go home.

The cottage was ideally situated in the village; there were lawns to the front and seating and tables for each cottage and the beach was 10 min walk away which suited our dog he loved it there. The locals in the village are very friendly and there is a good fish and chip shop.

It is a peaceful location. Our hosts were very nice and welcoming. The village itself is full of tradition. A good base to explore the area. We have stayed in a few cottages in this area and this is by far the best. The Leisure Centre at Loftus is good for any exercise needed. The beach at Skinningrove is quiet and peaceful.

Rated by Mrs Parish reviewed on 21st April 2013

Great location near to many areas on the North East coast that we wanted to explore. A tastefully decorated property and well heated which allowed us to relax after long days out walking. Good proximity to many picturesque beaches and coastlines.

We stayed here over New Year and really enjoyed our stay. There were plenty of walks to go on and it wasn't far from the beach at all! the Staff were very informative and friendly and if you dont want to take your car,the bus stop is right outside. Our only gripe was the shower :-( it wasnt very powerful and if you were using the washing machine or sink water, then the flow and temperature of the shower was affected. Other than that we would happily stay there again :-) Thank you for a warm and welcoming stay!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage and there are some lovely walks in the surrounding area. Close to the sea as well, so our dog loved it! We would certainly recommend this to anyone.

Original holiday "pulled" from under our feet six weeks before holiday date. Hastily found this little gem. If you`re looking for a quiet, tanqill relaxing break then look no further. What a lovely place to stay. A home away from home with everything you would possibly need inside this delightful converted pit pony stables. 5 minute walk into the village of Skinningrove, a bit further to the beach. Great central place to visit Redcar,Saltburn, Whitby and many other places. A local bus stopped outside the gravelled driveway (although not used by us a very frequent service ) Owners family lived in the cottage next door so always on hand if we needed anything. Large folder on hall stand had brochures, pamphlets for all local attractions plus instructions on how to use all appliances inside the cottage. Liked it so much within 4 days of coming home booked again for next year, a thing we have never done before

Rated by Mr Johnson reviewed on 10th August 2012

Walking into this spotless new-build cottage was like entering a show-home. The decor was beautiful; the furnishings were first class and comfortable; and joy of joys - a 32 inch Freeview TV that you can actually see from 15' away, along with a top of the range HiFi system and DVD player. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, along with a much appreciated washer/dryer, and the welcome pack was an absolute delight and so thoughtful. Day trips that we took included Saltburn by the Sea; Whitby; Robin Hood's Bay; Thornton-le- Dale; Hutton-le-Hole; Helmsley; Rievaulx Abbey; and Guisborough. This whole area of North Yorkshire is an absolute treasure trove for visitors. The hospitality and friendliness of the owners and hosts made us feel right at home, and gave us a week to remember. Sincerest thanks to all of our hosts.

Rated by Mr Mccann reviewed on 31st July 2012

This spotless new-build cottage is in the village of Skinningrove, with the Mining Museum a 3 minute walk away, and the beach a leisurely 10 minute stroll down the road. A lot of thought has gone into the decor and the furnishings, and the comfort of the guests, and it shows. The 32" Freeview TV, the high-backed dining chairs, and the washer/dryer in the kitchen tell you that your hosts Geoff & Val have thought of those little things that make your stay so enjoyable. And the "Welcome Pack"? Deliciously thoughtful! This corner of North Yorkshire is a visitor's delight, from the incredible beach at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, to Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley, to the wonderful Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole, and the lovely welcoming town of Guisborough. The weather was incredibly kind to us (a high of 27"), and an after-dinner drink sitting outside the cottage watching the sun go down, was the perfect topping to some great days. Geoff & Val, along with Kelly & Steve, and Joanna, made us feel so welcome and at home, we felt almost like part of the family. Many, many thanks to all of them. Any downside? Only one. The cottage was booked the week before and the week after our visit, and sadly we had to return home after only 7 nights!

Don't be put off Skinningrove by the 'Britains Hardest Villages' hype. Despite the menacing graffiti on the jetty we had a good time and the people who own the cottage were very helpful. The cottage was generously laid out for a couple and well equipped, especially in the kitchen. where a lot fall down. Great base for the North York Moors, the coast and the RSPB reserve at Saltholme in Middlesborough. Would definitely visit again.

If you go down to the bottom of the village walk left along the path to the beach you will get an excellent large lovely empty beach,to us that is all we wanted, not far from the beach at Saltburn by the sea, with its pier and clifftop setting. Lovely large shopping in middlesbourough etc
