Location Details

Mevagissey is the archetypal Cornish fishing village, and is a picturesque place with a harbour full of bobbing boats and meandering cobbled streets. The coast has beautiful walks in both directions, gorgeous sandy beaches, cliffs and secluded coves. There is a superb selection of pubs and restaurants, and a ferry runs daily to Fowey in the summer season. Just up the road you'll find the Lost Gardens of Heligan; the fascinating Tall Ships harbour at Charlestown with its shipwreck museum and fish smokery is seven miles distant, and the incredible tropical biospheres of the famous Eden Project are 11 miles away. The beaches and coastline of the Roseland Peninsula are a short drive down the coast and the shops, restaurants and theatre of the cathedral city of Truro are just half an hour's drive away.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Reviews

A lovely house with lots of character! 9 of us stayed with our dog and we found everything we needed and more with this house. It was very clean and the location was perfect, we could just step outside the front door and we were basically on the harbour side which had plenty of places to eat and drink and close to many local attractions.

Perfect place to stay if not into cleanliness and have no sense off smell, avoid lower two bedroom if you do, as smells of stale toilet fills the two rooms as no windows or no ventilation!!! Lock does not lock on lower bedroom and missing glass on shower (Pictures to follow as not uploading)

We stayed here for a week at the end of August. The cottage itself was situated in an excellent location right in the heart of Mevagissey. The cottage slept 10 people easily and was perfect for two families given the layout of the accommodation, The small terrace was great for early evening drinks in the sun. Everything was available in the cottage, a great home from home. Owners very friendly and responded to any requests we had. Would definitely recommend.

A great location, it was close to lots of things so it was easy to go out for a meal/pub. It was beautiful light and airy accommodation with good views. We were a party of 5 and enjoyed the great space and lovely garden area.

Perfect retreat to spend time with friends and nice to have privacy. We'll be back!

The location of The Old bank House is excellent, being right in the heart of the town so no need to use a car once there. Great access to the harbour, shops, restaurants, pubs and all amenities. We were a large family party and the house gave us exactly what we were looking for - plenty of space and bedrooms (and bathrooms importantly) for everyone including a baby and good communal areas for eating and partying together. Good facilities in the kitchen such as three ovens, dishwasher, an island to sit around and loads of crockery, glassware and cooking utensils. We loved the walks around the harbour and around the coast path. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Old Bank House - it lived up to expectations and we will definitely consider it again for future family holidays.

Good position for harbour & shops. Roomy bedrooms. Nice big dining room. Plenty of oven space and utensils. Xmas cake and mince left out for us which was very kind.

The location was excellent, just a stones throw to the harbour. The bedrooms were excellently furnished and clean. Very very impressed with the kitchen utensils, pans and amount of crockery.

The size of the house allowed a group of 8 adults to have adequate space and spend a relaxing long weekend together; much better than a hotel!

Nice village and friendly people. Excellent location of property, close to shops etc. The Tea Gallery is something special, and should not be missed!

Rated by Mr Ellis reviewed on 16th September 2013

The accommodation was excellent. The location was excellent right in the centre of the village with lots of shops. Mevagissey was a good central location for beaches and attractions like The Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and Fowey. The beach at Port Mellon was within easy walking distance and was lovely. We really enjoyed every day of our stay and would recommend it to others.

It was lovely to return to Driftwood House and Mevagissey. Revisited a couple of our favourite pubs and restaurants and tried a couple of new ones too - great to be able to support the local community after the floods.

The house was large and pleasant, the owners very helpful. Each bedroom was comfortable and we enjoyed the en suite rooms. We appreciated all the good and large pans in the kitchen and all the thoughtful extras.

We were looking for a cottage to sleep 10 and we were thrilled that there was plenty of room for all of us and within such short walking distance from the harbour. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has so much character. We all loved it so much that the day after we arrived home we booked it again for this December.
