The region was a favourite destination of Thomas Hardy – author of 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' - and in recent years has been featured in the 'River Cottage' television series. The Monarch Way provides an excellent walking route, whilst Forde Abbey and Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park are both easily accessible. Visitors can also enjoy a trip to the market town of Bridport or explore the historic Jurassic Coast.

Downside was a very comfortable cottage. It is in a very quiet situation with beautiful views. We enjoyed being on a working farm.
The cottage was spacious and light. Very comfortable and well equipped and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful.
In a quiet and peaceful setting and with very lovely owners of the farm. Had a perfect holiday.
The cottage was comfortable and cosy and the conservatory enabled us to enjoy the light evenings even if it was chilly outside. The cottage was easy to find and in a good location to explore.
A very comfortable cottage with everything you could need.
Peaceful and very private. It's what people that are from the city look for! Ideal! Tranquil.
Set in the beautiful countryside where it is so peaceful and quiet. The cottage has everything you need. This is our second stay and we will book again next year.
The shared garden was great for the children. The sofas were very comfortable. The cottage smelled fresh and was clean when we arrived.
We liked the remote country location and the fact that it was on a working dairy farm. It was furnished as if it was a home not a rental property, a real home from home. The owners were so friendly and were there if needed. A real getaway to enjoy the peace of the countryside. The village pub served very good meals at reasonable prices, but book ahead for 'pie night'! If the chickens are laying,Emma can sell you free range eggs.
It was a very nice cottage and was within driving range of a variety of activities. It was very nice to find we had complementary eggs from the owners that had been laid by their hens. We enjoyed watching the cows going to and from the fields daily.
Farm location great for children and quiet.
Ideal location, clean and fully equipped cottage. Ideal for a family holiday.
Cottage was very well equipped, and the sun room was a real benefit. It really gave the feeling of space.
Very spacious accommodation and friendly relaxed owners. Couldn't fault anything.
Friendly owners, beautiful garden and surroundings, peace and quiet, visiting animals and location - great places to visit. A very family friendly holiday.
Friendly welcome, the owners were very helpful without being intrusive. Lovely farm animals and pets. Beautiful location, very peaceful.
We were made to feel very welcome and it was lovely to be able to see life on a working farm.
The children had a lovely time and so did we.
The cottage was fabulous, and the extra touches by the owners added to our whole experience.
The peace and quiet of staying in the middle of nowhere. The friendliness of the owners. Being able to observe the dairy herd close up in the milking parlour as well as walking up the lane to the fields.
A very comfortable cottage in a lovely, quiet, rural location with everything we needed.
Excellent property with friendly owners.
We thought the family were very welcoming and were thoughtful in providing toys for our children to play with. The cottage was an ideal size for two adults and 2 toddlers.
Tranquil surroundings. Well placed to visit many places. Friendly family.
Lovely scenery and quiet location
We had a fantastic time. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going back.
The kids loved the use of the shared garden with its toys and play equipment, and playing with the owner's children.
Everything you need for a good stay was there. The villages around are very nice, like Crewkerne and Yeovil. Landscape is beautiful and the people of the farm are very kind.
It was probably the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. It had everything we could possibly need including really sharp kitchen knives! The hosts were delightful people and very helpful.
The friendliness of the owners and the welcoming goodies left for us - milk, delicious jam and eggs. Peace and quiet. The property was very well situated for our restful needs - wouldn't have known there were 100 cows nearby!
Lovely, cosy farm cottage in beautiful, quiet location. Great play area and toys in garden. Friendly Owners.
The property was a real home from home, in a great location for getting out and about and close to Beaminster and Crewkerne where there are local shops, restaurants and pubs. The farm is in a beautiful location and the owners are very welcoming. We love Dorset.
The peace & quiet! It was lovely being next to a working farm & hearing the animals but no traffic!
The owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was comfortable and very well equipped.
Garden was excellent!!
We spent a wonderful holiday in this lovely house. We liked everything, the kitchen, especially the bedrooms were arranged beautifully.
We loved the fact that this cottage was right out of the way. The area was beautiful and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It was a home from home. The little extras left by the owner were greatly appreciated.
We had a very warm welcome throughout our stay, nothing was a problem. We enjoyed being part of a working dairy farm for the week it made us feel relaxed and at ease straight away. The owners of Downside made us feel welcome, giving up their own time to show us around the farm and the tractors, which gave our young son much pleasure. The cottage was well equipped for our requirements and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
The peace and quiet of being surrounded by fields and animals compared to our usual city environment!
