Location Details

Situated close to Castle Bolton, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls is the picturesque Dales village of Redmire. Located along the Wensleydale Railway, which runs various steam trains during the summer, the settlement is also within easy reach of Castle Bolton, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire and dating back to 1378. Much of the construction, composed of towers set around a rectangular courtyard, survived orders to destroy the famous castles of Yorkshire issued by Parliament during the Civil War. Carperby is close by too, and was an important centre for the Quaker movement and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House, which overlooks the market cross and village green. Redmire itself is home to a traditional pub, which serves good food whilst there is an excellent range of amenities, shops and attractions in the nearby market town of Leyburn.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

What an amazing find. Stayed for 3 nights with our dog. Great property with everything you need and lots of little extras. The owner is very responsive, we had minor problem with sky box and had an immediate response. Walks straight from the door in lovely quiet environment . Definitely want to return.

Great position for a peaceful holiday with fantastic views and a 5 to 10 min walk to a wonderful pub with great food.

What a spot! Beautiful. We walked from the cottage most days which was great. The cottage is perfect. Comfortably warm (certainly no need for a log burner) with constant hot water. Every utensil one could possibly need in the kitchen. All was spotlessly clean throughout. Beds were very comfortable with cotton sheets etc., ( I hate poly) and decent quality towels. We didn't find the public right of way a nuisance, it was very nice to pass the time of day with the folk walking by. We will return and also pass this gem on to family and friends.

A beautfiul building. Larger than expected. Very cosy. Good layout. Dog-friendly. Good location for walking. Private other than walkers passing. A lovely relaxing few days away. Beautiful grounds. Unfortunately with public footpaths running through it. The owners are attempting to make one side private though with a hedge planting. I would suggest a fence all the way around to create an enclosed private garden with a bbq area. It was cold whilst we were there and so didn't require the outside space. The property was heated well but I think a log burner would be a lovely added feature. The kitchen was well equipped. It lacked a dishwasher and I would personally have preferred this to the washing machine. I think it would also keep it cleaner too as I found a lot of the kitchen items dirty and had to be washed before they could be used. The kitchen cupboards also needed cleaning out. The teaspoons were very tea-stained and needed replacing. The kitchen was well stocked though with utensils, oven-gloves, etc. It was nice to find kitchen roll, cling film, etc supplied. The clocks were either set to the wrong time or not working. The entrance was a good size and a very good usable space, especially with a dog. It was a great area to use when coming in with muddy feet from a long walk. This area would definitely benefit from a bench or other seating for changing footwear. The drying cupboard was brilliant for wet clothes. All of the windows and mirrors needed cleaning. There were also some cobwebs in places such as light fittings. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to find tissues provided and such things as hand soap and bubble bath. The property always smelt good too with air freshners in every room. The information leaflets could have been better. There were piles of the same leaflets. I would reduce these to one or two of each and add information such as walks and maps. There was a good selection of games and books. I donated a jigsaw :) The lounge area had a cream carpet which wasn't too practical. Luckily I had taken spare ground sheets and so could protect them. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend.

A beautiful location.

The Bothy is located at the bottom of a lane so you don't get traffic bothering you. There was plenty of room for my dog to roam around. Also, phone reception was limited so you can escape all the hassle and bustle of day to day life.

The location was superb as was the scenery, it is no doubt a place to go back to time and time again.

Fabulous location. Lovely cottage with walks on the doorstep. Local pub was very nice. Food excellent. Would definitely stay here again. The owner left a bottle of wine for our arrival which was really nice touch.

Nice cottage in grand location, ideal for walking or fishing. There was more room than expected and it had a lovely atmosphere. Efficient heating & hot water system which meant the cottage heated up quickly with lots of hot water. Excellent bath!

The situation of The Bothy was superb with footpaths, a beautiful river on your doorstep and an excellent pub in the village serving first class food at reasonable prices.

The cottage was beautiful. The location was perfect for us, rural, lots of dog walking and the river to go paddling and enjoy with our 4 yearr old son. Loads of wildlife too, which was nice to see.
