The Coach House was originally built as a stable block. Constructed from stone, it has been converted to offer accommodation for 2 people; a haven for couples looking to spend some time together. The cottage has been decorated in a warm and inviting style and has its own front patio on which to enjoy a glass of wine in the summer months. Although there is parking available, the local shop and pub are a mere 2 minutes away on foot. In addition, oil-fired central heating throughout the cottage means that you can enjoy all that the region has to offer at any time of year.

A semi-detached, stone-built cottage, converted from a stable block, on the main street of the village of Chirnside, 9 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Set in the grounds of the owners' home, this welcoming Scottish cottage in the Borders offers warm, cosy accommodation, ideal for a romantic break or for exploring the beaches, cliffs, coastline and history of this quiet, peaceful location. The area offers walks, fishing, shooting, golf, riding, tennis and birdwatching, while Edinburgh is just over an hour away. Just a short drive away, Berwick-upon-Tweed provides town walls, border bridges, shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst the glorious Heritage Coastline is within easy driving distance. A cosy Chirnside cottage, and an excellent base for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders! This property is next door to Ref. 3663, and together they accommodate 9.
Chirnside takes its name from the ancient Cairn that stood on a hill to the east of the village. It is perched on the ridge between the historic, walled town of Berwick-on-Tweed and Duns, overlooking the Tweed Valley and the distant Cheviots. The village itself is incredibly picturesque and prides itself on its many beautiful gardens. 8 miles away, you'll find the glorious, sandy beaches of Coldingham and Eyemouth, with its working harbour. Nearby attractions also include Maderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House and Ayton Castle. The grounds of the Hirsel ad Duns Castle Estate are also open to the public, as is St Abbs Head; a nature reserve run by the National Trust. The River Tweed provides fantastic opportunities for fishermen, walkers and bird-watchers and there is much evidence of the region's historic and turbulent past to be found in the spectacular countryside.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Not long back from a lovely stay. It was lovely and quiet, everyone was very friendly. It is a good stopping point for various day trips and exploring. Very clean and Tidy cottage with everything you need. Agnes the owner was very friendly and helpful. Our dog Angus was made to feel very welcome also.
We arrived after a days travelling to find there was no key to the property as stated and ended up having to find a hotel at 9:30 that evening, as the owners did not pick up our calls. They then refused to give us a refund or accept responsibility for their error. Be warned.
Very disappointed, How they can call this pet friendly I don't know.if your dog needs to relieve himself you have to take him right off the premises if he does it anywhere outside they will tell you to leave with no refund. In the rule book it says your dog is not house trained if it does it outside, I thought that was what house training is. The bedroom was not functional as there was no storage space and we were living out of suitcases. The low ceiling was also a problem. Cleanliness and hygiene were also a problem as there were hairs from the previous visitors in the bathroom basin and toilet. A jug of milk in the fridge in my opinion was also unhygenic a small milk bottle would have been more acceptable. This is one cottage we won't be returning to
The Coach House is a lovely cottage, it was perfect for the two of us. Very comfortable and cosy. The location was great, not to far away from the attractions we wanted to visit.
We had a fantastic holiday at The Coach House and would recommend it to couples seeking a lovely cottage which is convenient for exploring the many coastal towns and villages, especially Seahouses. The owners of the cottage were very helpful and advised us on the best places to visit; we particularly liked Kelso, a town full of interesting family-owned shops and a pub called The Cobbles. We will certainly return to this delightful cottage. Overall, a delightful cottage in a wonderful location.
Well situated for exploring the village and area. Bright and comfortable accommodation with good privacy.
This property has a low sloping ceiling in the bedroom and steep, narrow stairs. There were 'Mind Your Head' stickers everywhere! We were not warned of this when we booked. The bathroom is tiny and there is no storage space for clothes at all, except for a cupboard in the living room. All the crockery and cutlery and furnishings are old, mismatched and rather shabby. There was no welcome pack of milk, teabags etc, and not even a new j-cloth or toilet roll. We left early and informed the agents, Sykes Cottages, but were told it is up to the owners and so they (Sykes Cottages) can do nothing to make sure standards are maintained. We won't be using this holiday firm again.
We had a great time. Staying at The Coach House was ideal, and central for getting out and about. We went to so many beautiful places, it is hard to pick out just one, all that we can say is that we will be going back in 2014 for a longer period!
The cottage was warm, cosy and well appointed. Well positioned for all local attractions and amenities.
An excellent cottage, really comfortable. Conveniently situated in Chirnside only a few yards away from the Co-op. The only minor criticism was the lack of drawer space for storage of underwear etc. No shortage of cupboard space though.
Very warm throughout. Well heated during very cold week. Much appreciated.
Central location for many walks and places of interest to visit. Lovely comfortable cottage and welcoming helpful hosts. Local residents also friendly and helpful. Ticks all the boxes for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, would happily come back here.
The Coach House was situated in a quiet village, great base for visiting the surrounding towns and beaches. Also great walks close by. The cottage itself was lovely and the owners very friendly. We are thinking of going back in the near future.
Nice village with friendly locals, good touring base.
The cottage was very comfortable and lovely and warm (very important at that time of year) We both liked the location and the friendliness of the owners was very much appreciated. Well done would happily go back again.
Very good location, nice hosts. The cottage was well fitted out, good facilities, clean. Loved the bedroom being upstairs, was really cute. The hosts were really good and nice.
We stayed at the cottage during Christmas week. I didn't realise we weren't allowed to park in the owners garden which was a bit off-putting. There are car parks close by and on-street parking too if spaces are available. The owner allowed us to unload the car in front of the cottage which was very good of him, but unfortunately upon departure we had to walk to the street. This wasn't a problem perhaps I'd misread the cottage information. The cottage is nicely furnished, certainly warm and ok comfortwise. A slight downside is the bedroom which has limited headroom, no chest of drawers (anywhere) for smaller items and no spare / extra pillows. The kichen area was comfortable and cosy, but I would expect a retreat for two to have a Cafetiere for two rather than one. I suggest a review of the cottage inventory take place. We only saw the owners once, who have an office next door, and respected our privacy. WiFi is available in the sitting room which is next to this office, but not the rest of the property The cottage is located in great part of the borders with many sights close by.
The booking service from Sykes was as efficient as ever The property was well described and easy to find. It was well set out. Possibly could have has a few teabags on arrival! Chirnside is a lovely village. Nice people, places to walk nearby and close to lots of places to visit.
The property was lovely. The village and people were nice and friendly. It was also close to plenty of places to walk to and visit.
The Coach House is attractively decorated, with a fully equiped kitchen/diner. There was plenty of space for relaxation and we especially appreciated having a seperate lounge. Located in the village of Chirnside with a Co-op, post office & butcher just down the street. Fantastic location for exploring the Border region. St. Abbs, Eyemouth, Coldstream, Berwick and more are all less than 30 minutes away. The owners as well as the locals in the village were friendly and helpful. We stayed one week and could have stayed another without running out of things to do and places to see whether you are a shopper or a rambler. The only downside is that the bedroom ceiling is very low at the sides because it is up in the roof. In fine weather there is a table and chairs outside and although the Coach House is on the owner's property you have a real sense of privacy while you are there.
The property was secure and we felt safe, the accommodation was cosy and well situated within the village. The locals were all very friendly.
Lovely relaxing cottage in an excellent position for exploring. Owners were friendly and the villagers were helpful.
The owners were very welcoming and the cottage was very warm and cosy. This was particularly important as the weather was quite cold and blustery. The local people were also very hospitable and friendly. The shop, bank and Church were within a few minutes walk and the view over the countryside was lovely.
A lovely cosy cottage which was extremely comfortable and a welcome retreat. The surrounding countryside was stunning and the location was ideal for visiting the Scottish Borders, the Northumbrian coastline, Northumberland National Park and Edinburgh. Lots of information leaflets with suggested activities were available in the cottage. We had a wonderfully relaxing time and would definitely recommend the area, the cottage and Sykes to friends and family.
Cooker was not very good and required cleaning. Stairs could be dangerious as only polished wood, very narrow and would be very slippery if wet. Bed space is limited in that with low gables it is necessary to stoop each side of the bed in order to get into bed.May not be suitable for elderly or infirm. Lounge excellent and comfortable
Ideal location for holidays as very central for Edinburgh and Newcastle. Despite the weather conditions the roads were generally passable and local amenities are very good. Village residents are very friendly and we will consider further holidays at Chirnside.
Beautiful part of the country. The cottage was central to where we planned to visit.
Nice location, many and varied sites in the vicinity, quiet village, good road network, easy access to A1 for Edinburgh down to Newcastle.
Lovely greetings from the owners. They were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Fantastic location. Property ideally situated to explore Northumbria and Scotland. Very good value for money too.
Quiet and secluded yet on the main road of a village. The general standard of the accommodation was very high. Owners were always available but did not intrude. Plenty of places of interest within easy reach.
The property is ideal for those interested in exploring the countryside and historic places. Lovely and beautiful views from across the hills. Highly recommended.
I think the cottage definitely deserves more than a 2 star rating!
