Reviews

Had the most relaxing week in beautiful Northumberland! The Cowshed exceeded all our expectations. The photographs don’t do it justice. It’s spacious, and yet still so cozy. It’s been so tastefully renovated, . A fabulous mix of old and new. We loved its quirkyness, the artwork and all the little touches that make it feel like home. It was lovely to find a welcome hamper with Prosecco, coffee and tea & milk in the fridge! It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, plenty of lovely handsoaps and toiletries.. it was also spotlessly clean. Margaret is a lovely host and was very welcoming, reassuring us that if we needed anything then we only had to knock her door. Thank you again for a super holiday. We can’t wait to return, hopefully later in the year. Dee & Tony Newman.

On the edge of Northumbria with Hadrian's wall right on the door step. Maeket towns of Hexham and Corbridge just down the road. Newcastle is 20 minutes away and the glorious North East coast is 35 minutes drive, Also good for visiting Alnwick, Bamburgh and Seahouses. Generous welcome pack, including fresh eggs, milk, tea and coffee, and a bottle of Prosecco. Margaret was on hand if any problems. Plenty of kitchen equipment, the best we have found. The forget me cupboard is a nice touch. The property was warm and cosy, we didn't want to leave. Have booked again for May as it is that good.

Comfortable accommodation in a great central area for exploring Northumberland.

The cottage was more spacious than it appeared in the photos on the website. Everything about the cottage was brilliant and we would definitely go back and also be happy to recommend it to friends and family.

This is the best cottage we've stayed in for a while.

The quality of the fixtures, the comfort and the location of the cottage are first rate. Privacy is assured yet the owners were always available on site if needed.

This is a relaxed cottage which was very comfortable and well appointed with a funky colour scheme. The cottage is in an ideal location to explore Northumberland. The owners were helpful but unobtrusive. We loved it.

Fantastic cottage containing everything we needed for a family break of 1 week. Welcome pack was much appreciated. Great location for visits north south east and west. Warm, comfortable and spacious. Much thought had gone into providing books DVD's , tapes and games for evenings in. The huge range of information leaflets about the area was really helpful. The 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite) and 2 double bedrooms were a real plus. Appreciated the extras (toiletries) provided. Loved the Smeg pink fridge and double ovens. We have had experience of holiday cottages over the years, and this one is really the crème de la crème. Intend to book this again for next year.

This is an outstanding cottage. The Cowshed is generous in size, quirky and an absolute joy to stay in. We were talking about going back before we even left! Just gorgeous!

The Cowshed was very clean, warm and cosy. It was very well located for visiting areas in the North East and Northumberland. We have stayed in cottages before however this one far exceeded anything else. Simply perfect.

Stayed here for a New Year break and it was fabulous. The Cowshed has everything you need for a luxury break, from the super comfortable king bed in the master bedroom to the wood burning stove in the living area , flatscreen TVs in each room and a wonderful sound system - we were truly spoiled. The welcome pack was a generous surprise with festive goodies and a bottle of cava to toast the New Year. Horsley is a small village only 10 miles from Newcastle with a good bus service. The only disappointment was that one of the two village pubs has closed, leaving only The Lion and Lamp within walking distance for eating. It has an excellent menu however and we enjoyed dinner there on two nights. The Cowshed is well placed for exploring Hadrians Wall country as well as metropolitan Newcastle & I would not hesitate to recommend it.

More than delighted with the quality of the Cowshed. Very comfortable and extremely well fitted out. Excellent appliances, quality modern bathrooms and showers. Good location for visiting Northumberland and Durham.

We stayed here as a base to explore Northumberland. The accommodation was fantastic, the decor is funky and stylish and it was spotlessly clean. We loved having the fire lit on an evening, there were loads of family games provided and the TV has Netflix, which all helped to create a truly chilled week. There's a lovely pub in the village (Lion and Lamb) and an Arts cafe which both served great food and there are some fab walks in the surrounding countryside. A superb holiday cottage.

Beautiful cottage, with everything you could require on holiday. The owners were really friendly and helpful too. Fantastic base to explore the area. Highly recommended!

It was beautiful, spacious, well equipped and spotless with modern appliances and furniture, and a lovely fireplace. It is ideally located to explore both Northumberland and north Yorkshire and is only a 15min drive from central Newcastle. We cooked here during our stay and the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds had good quality linen & mattresses and the bathrooms were in pristine condition. My husband and I took his parents there and my mother in law couldn't stop raving about the place! It really was a pleasure to stay here and will definitely recommend to anyone. Could not have had a better experience.

Myself and 3 other girls stayed at this beautiful cottage for a month as we were training to be cabin crew at the aviation academy, Newcastle. I can't phrase this place enough after long days at the academy it was a pleasure to come back and relax here, with it's calming aura it really felt like home, from the stunning decor to the heated flooring and so well equipped it ticked all the boxes. The landlady couldn't be more friendlier and helpful. Myself and the girls really enjoyed staying at the cowshed cottage and can't wait to return.
