Reviews

Chose this cottage as was recommended to us through family. We were not disappointed.. We absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. It’s very comfortable and spacious, in a perfect location to explore Devon. We loved the surroundings and nature around us. The fire was a treat- Lovely and cosy. We had everything we needed at the cottage and is a perfect spot if you’re looking for a dog friendly holiday. Hosts were always available if needed and happy to help. Thank you lovely Zoe and Malcolm. We look forward to seeing you again.

A picture postcard setting , ideal for a complete getaway over New Year, wonderful to be able to bring the dogs with walks literally straight out of the front door. Some great pubs very close by, we loved the Duke of York in Iddesleigh which is about 2 miles each way following the Tarka Trail , right out of the front gate or the Tally Ho which is 1.5 miles into the village of Hatherleigh . We did lots of cooking so it was great to have a well equipped kitchen and also with such muddy walking the use of the washing machine was a complete must! Absolutely adored the log burner and I thought the Christmas tree with lights made for a very romantic setting . Great hosts who whilst at hand if you have any questions were totally anonymous otherwise. Would absolutely recommend this barn if you’re looking for a releasing break . We visited Bude, Westwood Ho, Tintagel and Boscastle , nothing more than 50 minutes drive and all well worth the visit .

Set in the most amazing countryside this former barn has been turned into a bit of a jewel, we were made to feel at home straight away, the granary has class, style, the wow factor. Ever so reasonably priced for a 5 star property. We had a week of discovery and noticed holiday makers come back again and again. Thank you Malcolm and Zoe plus your mum and dad for a Devonshire treat with our 4 dogs.

We recently stayed at this wonderful cottage with our small dog Teisha. on our arrival we were made to feel at home already by the lovely warm welcome by Zoe and her husband Malcolm. nothing was to much trouble for them . if we needed advice on how far somewhere was they were on hand to answer our queries. they have done an amazeing job with the cottage. its in a stunning location. and I loved feeding the ducks every morning and watching them in the duck pond in the garden. and gorgeous views at the back to. . the cottage is extreamly well equipped and warm and inviteing.there is ample room and has been very tastefuly decorated. and although the down stairs lounge is really big. we was not cold at all. and did not need the fire on at all..everywhere was immaculate and clean. Haherleigh isnt very big but the two pubs do lovely meals and dogs are allowed in them which is a bonus the museum at the quay is a great day out I had such fun dressing up in Victorian clothes. there is loads to do as the cottage is in a really good spot and not to far from places to see for a good day out. we had a superb holiday and cant thank Zoe and Macolm enough for making it possible we did not want to leave this gorgeous cottage and will be back. thanks you.

The location is great - very peaceful and fairly isolated. The owners were very accommodating and genuinely lovely people who were keen to ensure that we had everything we needed (which we did!). The accommodation was exactly as advertised - there was lots of space for us and our 3 dogs and we were particularly impressed with how comfortable the bed was. We are already talking about when we might be able to go back!

The owners were amazing and went out of their way to help us. The property and location were perfect for our needs. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet, tranquil break away from it all. We would stay here again and again. Thank you to the owners for creating such a lovely cottage. They have created a perfect retreat in beautiful countryside.

Rated by Mr Rumsey reviewed on 13th March 2016

Arrived on cold evening greeted by a roaring log fire, extremely clean cottage and fresh bedding that smelt lovely. The owners introduced themselves and what a lovely accommodating couple they are nothing was any bother. The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Great location to explore Devonshire and Cornwall. There is duck pond that is well fenced off, which kept our gundogs from getting in for a swim. Tarka trail is on doorstep which was great to tire out our dogs. Such a quite, relaxing stay. The owners have done such a spectacular job on renovating such a fabulous thatch cottage. If you like walks or want to explore Devonshire and Cornwall or just want somewhere to recouarate from the stresses of life this is the place to stay. Hope to return very soon.

Such a wonderful cottage, really didn't want to leave! The cottage was beautiful, so comfortable and warm. Set at the end of a very long lane, which added to the feeling of seclusion, privacy, peace and quiet. Couldn't fault anything on this holiday, we'd go back in a flash! Please, please can we move in?

Beautiful well equipped thatched cottage in a quiet rural location. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. This is one of very few holiday homes that cater for more than 2 dogs and was ideal for us.

Perfect cottage for a relaxing holiday in the beautiful Devon countryside. Cottage well equipped, lovely comfy beds and is Ideal for pet owners as up to 4 dogs are allowed at no extra cost, Wake up in the morning to the sounds of ducks in the adjacent fenced in duck pond. Perfectly located for exploring Devon, and not far from superb beaches on the north Cornwall coast. The owners are lovely and most welcoming and live in an adjacent detached thatched cottage. For walkers the cottage is on the Tarka Trail footpath, which slightly further north becomes a cycleway.

The property owners were very helpful and friendly and yet kept a respectful distance to allow us some privacy. The cottage location was particularly lovely with easy walking from the front door. The owners accept dogs and yet the property and grounds were spotless and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend this cottage.

The property was very good and the interior was excellent. It was very quiet where it was situated, there are not many properties you can go where sheep from the nearby farm are right outside your windows. Overall it was very good and we would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing holiday. The owners were very pleasant and we had no problems at all.

Rated by Mr Driffield reviewed on 7th June 2015

We received a very warm reception from the owners and nothing was too much trouble. The setting was idyllic, with a duck pond and many species of wild birds, also sheep and lambs grazing in the fields surrounding the property. Not too far from good beaches and places of interest.

Rated by Mr North reviewed on 26th April 2015

A relaxing, peaceful place to stay. The fact that we could take 3 dogs made it perfect for us and the comfortable beds and sofas helped us to unwind after days out with a cosy log burner to sit round. This is a lovely part of Devon, very easy to go North or South with loads to see and do. Easy access to the moor as well.

We had a wonderful weeks holiday. Relaxing and comfortable. Beautiful outlook with its own duck pond and surrounded by fields. The Tarka Trail literally passes the front door, so, lots of lovely walks. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend and will return.

We were met with a lovely warm welcome by our hosts. The Cottage was just beautiful, in a peaceful location. A fantastic place to get away from the hustle and bustle, in a very beautiful area. A great place to go walking along the Tarka Trail or use as a base for the local attractions.

Rated by Mrs Macbeath reviewed on 24th August 2014

We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome by our hosts, who were lovely. The Cottage itself is beautiful and has everything that you need. The cottage is clean, comfortable and homely. It is located down a very long narrow lane, but this adds to the feeling of getting away from it all. The cottage is situated actually along the Tarka Trail, so if walking is your thing you can start from your front door. Widemouth beach is within a reasonable drive for a day at the coast. My younger daughter loved having our very own duck pond, (which is fenced off for safety). This a great place to really get away from all the hustle and bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet, but is still within easy reach of the local attractions within a short drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Groves Fishleigh.

It really felt like a home away from home! The hosts were very warm and helpful and we appreciate that they welcomed our 3 dogs. The location is ideal for exploring Devon & Cornwall. We look forward to returning again!

We were the first paying guests at the property, and the owners could not have made us more welcome. This pretty thatched cottage is absolutely delightful, situated astride the Tarka Trail at the end of a rural lane a couple of minutes outside Hatherleigh - ideal for walking our dogs. It was an incredibly peaceful and restful stay for us both. Thanks for looking after us so well!
