Reviews

Clean, well-appointed barn conversion on the edge of Glaisdale village with private off-road parking. All essentials provided. TV had satellite channels, which was useful, however mobile phone reception in the area is variable. A good base for touring the coast and moors. Be aware if exploring the local attractions on foot that the country roads do not always have footpaths. Well planned layout with spacious living area and separate bathroom attached to each bedroom.

The location of the Barn was good in an area, it was handy for visiting surrounding villages and also close to the coast. The cottage was well equipped, warm and welcoming.

Warm, welcoming, well maintained and very clean and comfortable cottage. Modern furnishings, comfortable beds with good quality bedding and well equipped kitchen. Having two bathrooms is a real bonus. Plenty of parking and the cottage is in a beautiful location with a wonderful view from the lounge/dining area. This is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in across the UK.

It was a warm, light, well equipped and well maintained property. Very clean and welcoming. Had comfortable beds, good quality bedding and plenty of parking outside the cottage. A wonderful location with beautiful views from the lounge/dining room area. One of the best we have ever stayed in.

Just back from a five night stay at Lanes Barn. We had to search for a property with bedroom and toilet on the ground floor (88 year old mum). There were two steps but a rail made them OK . The place has been finished to a high standard, very clean and hey a dish washer. No washing up for me. Plenty of interest in the field at the back, sheep, two miniature pigs, small horse, hens and ducks. The sheep looked ready to lamb unfortunately not before we left. Perfect spot for exploring the North Yorkshire moors and coast. Would love to go again soon.

Really stunning barn conversion. Very tastefully decorated. Lots of useful storage and everything you might need. Parking very spacious and safe. The area is stunning with great views. The owners are very friendly and close by if there are any problems. Quite a walk to the village but not a problem as we had our car.

It was well situated and Lanes Barn is one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in with excellent facilities all round.

Rated by Mr Ditchfield reviewed on 20th September 2014

Lovely little cottage on the edge of Glaisdale. Absolutely spotless and very comfortable. 10 miles from Whitby, the village is on the Pickering to Whitby railway line, though the station is at the other end of the village, like the pub, and a bit of a hike away; a small general store and a butcher are slightly closer, but still a fair walk away and all uphill on the way back. Glaisdale is tucked away in the winding, hilly roads leading to the moors and every time you go anywhere you end up on little roads with fabulous views, and in the middle of great walking country. Handy for Whitby, Scarborough, Pickering, beautiful Riveaulx Abbey, Hutton le Hole, Flamborough Head, and any number of pretty little villages. Close enough to visit York and Harrogate too. Don't miss Saltburn if you want a sandy beach with somewhere to eat but a minimum of expensive commercial distractions. There's a great park there too with a little train and excellent kids' play areas. My only small niggle was that the views from the garden and living room were limited because of some sort of animal shelter that formed the back wall of the garden. On the plus side there were sheep, pigs, hens and ducks in the field at the back which would amuse kids. All in all a near perfect place to stay if you want peace and quiet within easy reach of plenty of interesting places.

Cottage was in a lovely location. Everything we needed was there. The owner was very helpful. Very peaceful setting. Easy to get to Whitby. Very enjoyable stay. Would recommend.

The accommodation was excellent, and we would highly recommend it. It was also in an ideal location for all the things that we wanted to do with some impressive scenery. We enjoyed Whitby and if you like museums we would highly recommend the James Herriot museum and Eden Camp.

Lovely position in little village. Cottage is of a very high standard and lovely furnishings. Has everything you need-underfloor heating excellent. Only 15-20 minutes from main sightseeing, etc. Whitby Town and it's shops are a must. Also Flamingo Land great for the kids. Owners very welcoming.

Enjoyed the fact that we were in Yorkshire, it was very lovely, there were lots of paths around for walks and pubs for drinking and the evening meal or lunch, the food was very good. The owner was very welcoming and helpful and the barn was of a very good standard.

Rated by Mr White reviewed on 25th May 2013

The cottage was beautiful and the location was too. The underfloor heating was superb.

Rated by Mrs Stopford reviewed on 15th April 2013

The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Beautifully decorated and furnished. It was warm and spacious. The weekend itself was marvellous. We particularly enjoyed Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay.

Rated by Mrs Coles reviewed on 4th October 2012

As soon as we arrived at the barn we knew we'd made the right choice of accomodation. Everything was of a very high standard, very well appointed, beautifully furnished and we felt at home very quickely. The village shop and butchers are within 10 minutes walk of the barn and we were able to buy all our food from there, so no need to travel to a supermarket. I would recommend the butchers, the meat and pies were excellent. We were made very welcome. Although the trains running through the Esk Valley were infrequent, we were still able to make use of them travelling one way and walking back to Glaisdale stopping off at a pub or two en route. The Esk Valley is beautiful and well worth exploring rather than just visiting the usual tourist spots on the Moors.

The barn conversion was well set out and the location was spot on. It is set in a quiet location act yet only twenty mins from Whitby and other places alike. Overall it was a great place and we will go again.

My wife and i wanted a short 3 night weekend break for my 63rd Birthday in North Yorkshire. We found this 2 bed Barn conversion on line and to date this is the best cottage we have stayed in. It was immaculte, warm, cosy, with off road private parking, situated on the moors with beautiful views and walks. The Barn had all mod cons even underfloor heating everything was there no need to take anything (except food) Whitby is 10 miles about a 20 mins drive. We would fully recommend the Barn and area, there are a few local pubs situated a mile away so its a good uphill walk. If you like peace and quiet with good walks and views with Whitby nearby then give this a try, in our opinion you won`t be disapointed.

Rated by Mr Cuckson reviewed on 27th June 2011

The accommodation was perfect. We stayed at the property last year as well and were pleased to find it still in excellent condition. I am sure we will book again. Yorkshire is ideal for our family as we are able to enjoy a variety of activities, there is something for everybody. We love Whitby with the bustle of a Port and then the peace and beauty of Runswick Bay.

Rated by Mrs Armitage reviewed on 6th June 2011

The cottage was in a very nice location and was much more than we had expected. We will certainly go again!

Rated by Mr Brown reviewed on 3rd March 2011

Glaisdale is a beautiful, peaceful, location and there are stunning views to enjoy from the barn. The bedroom was cosy and comfortable and the high standard of the fittings made it feel like a very special place to be staying. It was perfect.

Rated by Mrs Fairbairn reviewed on 9th November 2010

The rental is a barn that has been converted to a very high standard, because there are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms effectively both bedrooms are en-suite, the views to the rear over the esk valley are lovely. The location makes it a good base for touring, you can drive on to the moors in a few minutes and reach Whitby in about 20, the only minor drawback is that it is a stiff 25 minute walk uphill from the nearest pub (which is very nice).

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 5th November 2010

A FANTASTIC place to stay couldn't fault it! The décor was lovely and obviously a lot of thought has gone into presenting this property. Well done to the owners.
