Reviews

Cottage far exceeded our expectations, wish we could of stayed longer. Very spacious, has all the modern amenities and is in a fantastic location right on the edge of the woods and a 5 to 10 minute walk from the local shops & restaurants. Had a fantastic welcome from the owners including a bottle of chilled wine in the fridge, already planning a return visit.

Just returned from a 7 night holiday at this cottage with our friends (4 x adults) Cottage: After a 10hr drive, we turned into a stunning driveway and arrived at the cottage around the rear of the main house. We had a lovely warm welcome from the owner (Sandy) and the cottage door was open and ready for us to relax! Thank you so much for the bottle of wine, milk & shortbread!! Highly recommend ordering a Sainsbury’s food delivery - which Sandy didn’t mind and helped the driver find us!! Cottage has 3 double bedrooms with double beds. Each room has an en-suite which was lovely. Beds were super comfy! Kitchen is huge and extremely well stocked. Sandy & Lorraine’s garden was stunning! Croquet set up (Never played before - but have now!) Gate at the rear of garden which leads to a little walk through the forest down to the Spey river (a must!). Grantown-on-Spey: For us - this is the nicest village we came across! Handy petrol station round the corner, a Co-op on the high street open daily (HIGHLY recommend Mackies Haggis crisps - delish!) Gorgeous little boutiques and art shops! Bike hire the best here too (next to Co-Op) Overall we can’t recommend this cottage enough. Would definitely return! We can’t believe how hot the weather has been - some days reaching 30degrees! Thank you for a lovely holiday.

This place is excellent starting with the fantas tic warm welcome from the owners. It is a home from home with everything you need to hand. The location for shops and amenities couldn't be better. We couldn't have had a better holiday and will certainly be back.

A very well appointed cottage in lovely location on the edge of Grantown - a 10 minute stroll from the town centre. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and cosy just as you'd want and is a great base for exploring the local countryside. If you're tall-ish take care upstairs - some low sloping ceilings there! A word of warning if you're bringing bikes on a roof top bike carrier - I think its remiss that this isn't mentioned or not highlighted on the cottage description but as you enter to the property area there's a leafy arch - which is supported by a solid metal frame and substantial tree branches. This arch was low enough to catch our bikes and consequently damaged to car roof and carrier, even at very low speed...

A comfortable cottage which is well heated, within easy walking distance of town centre and lovely walks on the doorstep.

This is an excellent cottage in a lovely location with a range of outdoor activities available locally. The town of Grantown-on-Spey is charming and the local people are very friendly. The best cottage we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a good number over the years.

Rated by Mrs Purdy reviewed on 28th February 2016

My family and I had a magical Christmas in this cottage. We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owner when we arrived. The cottage was absolutely beautiful and cosy. The kids had plenty of space and we did not feel closed in. Everything you need is in this cottage. It was no different to being home. It was very clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are very spacious and plenty of storage space. The linen was all fresh and clean which was really good. The kitchen is very well equipped. There was plenty of outside space for the kids to play, a separate play area for children was really welcoming and would be ideal for a summer vacation. It is within easy walking distance of the local amenities and is an ideal location if you wish to travel around Aviemore and Inverness. It is perfect for a relaxing holiday break. I will definitely come back to stay in this cottage and would recommend this to my family and friends.

Great location and lovely gardens with red squirrels. We liked being close enough to walk into the town but also on the edge of the woods. There was lots to do in the area without travelling too far. Very comfortable accommodation and friendly owners.

This cottage is delightful. Very clean, warm and well equipped. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone interested in a Highland holiday. The location is a great base for travelling around the Cairngorms National Park.

Rated by Rev Ward reviewed on 23rd February 2015

Located practically in a wood and within comfortable travel of both Inverness and Aviemore this is an ideal family accommodation. Grantown-on-Spey itself is a nice little town with several unique little craft shops 5 minutes walk away. Just one little warning, the upstairs bedrooms suffer from a little restricted head room due to slanted roof and the floorboards are a little creaky. However this certainly doesn't detract from overall experience. Highly recommended

A 5 Star plus property! Beautifully presented and in fabulous surroundings! The bedding was totally luxurious and there was ample space and bathrooms for everyone! Would 100% recommend this property and hope to one day return! The surrounding area has lots of great days out and plenty to see. It really is a great holiday destination.

The cottage was in a lovely location, part of a very impressive large detached house. The cottage itself was excellent, everything required provided, excellent cleanliness and lots of personal touches. You could see the owners care about their property. The owner was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

A beautiful conversion, tastefully decorated. Perfect location and a warm welcome.

Rated by Mr Clive reviewed on 18th October 2014

Comfortable and very well equipped accommodation with good access to the town for shopping, take-aways and meals out. We spent 3 days paddling on the River Spey from Grantown to Spey Bay and enjoyed some great days out in the Cairngorms, up to the north coast and the Black Isle as well. The Glenlivet distillery visit and the trip on the Strathspey Railway were obvious highlights !

Rated by Mrs Bycroft reviewed on 25th August 2014

Cottage was very cosy and well situated to see Speyside and close to amenities in the town. Bedrooms beautifully decorated and loads of closet space if you needed it. My elderly mother was happy in a ground floor bedroom with adjacent bathroom. Loads to do in the local area or within an hour's drive to the coast.

Rated by Mrs Cullen reviewed on 7th July 2014

Probably the best holiday cottage and garden we have come across.

Rated by Mr Jess reviewed on 26th May 2014

The cottage, the owners, the garden and the location were perfect. We really couldn't fault it and would certainly stay here again when we visit the area in the future. Speyside is an amazing area and this is the ideal place from which to explore it.

Rated by Mr Darbyshire reviewed on 19th May 2014

Cottage looked fabulous in pictures but was even better in reality. It sits in beautiful grounds with a childrens' play area and backs onto woods which are accessed via a gate in the grounds. The 3 bedrooms are well presented and all have their own bathrooms. We loved the open plan kitchen diner and living room which meant we could all be together but in our own space. It is also very well heated which was lovely to come back to after days out. The kitchen has everything you could want with a big fridge freezer outside in a shed for beer and wine!! Well placed for trips out and Wi-Fi for stays in. Our welcome bottles in the fridge were a very nice touch - would highly recommend

The cottage was really fantastic! We had a great time and everything was well prepared and presented. Beautiful surroundings on the outskirts of the village, within easy walking distance to bars/restaurants and shops in the centre. The owners have a beautiful garden and direct access to the forest behind so it really is a wonderful setting. We will certainly be recommending this property to friends in the future.

The cottage was impeccable, and in good taste. It had everything one could possibly want, including a warm welcome. It has been tastefully refurbished and furnished. It felt very much like home. We all loved it, and thought the stay should have been longer. It exceeded expectations. Great place to stay in.

This cottage is the soothing calming stay for when you are travelling a lot. We have come from Australia and have driven over quite a lot of the UK and Ireland. This is the perfect place to come home to after a day of sightseeing. The website does not do it justice. From the warm Scots greeting from the owners to the level of thoughtfulness and well equipped rooms. There is a great sense of generosity and style in all the rooms. From lovely toiletries to the welcome bottle of wine chilling in the fridge to the biggest softest towels on our road trip. And the surroundings are just serene and lovely. Great location for any number of activities including the whisky distilleries. Thank you to both owners for such a warm and welcome environment.

The presentation of Dunstaffnage Cottage was excellent. It was a joy to return to the property after a day's hiking in the Aberdeenshire hills. The cottage was close to the shops in Grantown-on-Spey which was very convenient. The owners were very pleasant and not intrusive.

Rated by Mrs Williams reviewed on 9th September 2013

We loved everything about this house. We loved the garden, and the location of the property was brilliant, close to shops whilst at the same time being in a beautiful unspoilt area of the world. The owners are wonderful, without being intrusive. We would definitely recommend to family and friends, and cannot wait to go again.

Rated by Mrs Akudi reviewed on 1st September 2013

We rented the cottage for family members to celebrate a 60th birthday. The cottage is a 5 star venue, with a well stocked kitchen, comfortable sitting area and 3 lovely bedrooms. There are lovely gardens to sit in and an amazing play area for children. A highlight of our holiday was watching red squirrels feeding from tree boxes. The owners live in a large house on site but while being helpful and stopping for a chat, they were not intrusive. When you arrive drive to the end of the road and turn into the large black and gold gates, proceed passed the large house and you will see the cottage. Large, well stocked Co-op 5 minute drive away. Sylhet Brasserie Indian on the High Street was good for a carryout. The Riverside Restaurant was nice for a meal but book up as it is small and busy.

Rated by DumfriesTraveller reviewed on 16th August 2013

The lovely garden and being able to watch red squirrels eating from the nut feeder. The general decor was 5 star and the property's proximity to Grantown on Spey was great. The owners were lovely to chat to but didn't intrude. All in all, a great location, and high standard of accommodation.

"Wonderful" is just one of the ways we can describe the week we stayed at Dunstaffnage Cottage. Excellent accomodations - roomy - clean - comfortable. Kitchen was generally well appointed - excellent appliances and more than enough dishes and flatware. The local Co-op grocery store was an easy 10 minute walk, so we never wanted for anything. Location was excellent - Granton-on-Spey proved to be an excellent base of operations from which we could go visit the region's castles, distilleries and other attractions. Sandy proved to be a wonderful host, quickly responded to all of our needs and provided good insight into the local pubs and restaurants. We would come back to the Cottage in a heart beat. Thanks Sandy.

There quite literally is only one word to describe our holiday and that is Fantastic. A beautiful part of the world with endless opportunities for nature spotting and spending long days outdoors. The write up in Sykes brochure really does not do the cottage justice it is great with all the little extra's you would expect to find in hotel accommodation. The gardens and wood are very accessible and we played croque most nights (after googling the rules). The owners were very pleasant and really made us welcome. All told we had a fantastic holiday (we always do) but the cottage exceeded our expectations and made our stay in grantown even better. 5*** experience. Thanks Sykes we know if it's in your brochure it will be good.
