A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Booked to stay just after lockdown for a 3 night stay. Apartment fully equipped with everything you need. Hot tub available for use and very relaxing. Bishop's Castle is a lovely little village with a few pubs all within walking distance of the apartment. We were unlucky with the weather but looking forward to returning soon. Thank you Adrian
This is a light and airy apartment/ cottage in a lovely location. It is exceptionally well equipped for self catering. It has beautiful views over Long Mind from its floor to ceiling lounge window.there is a wood burner with logs for cooler days. The bedrooms are large and both have a bathroom which is a bonus. The double bed bedroom has its own balcony with table and chairs. The apartment was clean and very welcoming. There is the added bonus of a garden , summerhouse, garden furniture, barbecue and a super hot tub. Ideal for relaxing after a day out strolling around lovely Bishops Castle or enjoying one of the super walks directly from the property. The tennis court, with equipment is also very enjoyable for a game. The apartment is a short walk from the main area of Bishops Castle where cafes, shops and excellent pubs/restaurants can be found. The owner is welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. All in all a marvellous place to stay and we hope to return.
Stayed many times, last 2 visits November 2017 and January 2018, never disappoints. Hot tub great after 13 mile walk in the snow on long mynd. It's a bit weird running across garden in the snow wearing just a swimming costume. Great location, only few minutes walk from any of the pubs, and there are a Few in Bishops Castle - never usually get further than Three Tons and Castle Hotel but this time also got to 6 Bells and Boars Head, and both very nice. Would recommend and are going again March 2018.
The location of the cottage is ideal for walking or cycling, with no need to use the car if you prefer not too. The town of Bishop Castle has everything you need with plenty of pubs to visit. We ate at the Boars head pub, the food was excellent as were the owners, very welcoming. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need, the log burner and hot tub were great at the end of the day after a long bike ride. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
Don't bother going here place is filthy couldn't even go in hot tub the canopy was covered in green algae and if I could have found a mower I would of cut the lawn.Never book with Sykes again complained to them and haven't even had the courtesy to reply.i
Stayed many times and always great. Location of apartment perfect for Bishops Castle, especially Three Tuns PH and Castle Hotel. Apartment always clean and furnished beautifully, log burning fire fab after walk on long mynd and once you have been in hot tub.
This is our second stay at this property - our first being three years ago. We enjoyed it just as much as we did previously. We would stay there again. The owner is very welcoming. The hot tub is a great way to relax after a day of walking in the area. The property is in the perfect location for exploring.
A comfortable, pleasant apartment. The heating was good, and we particularly appreciated the wood burning stove on a cold, wet night! The showers were powerful and efficient. Communication with the owner was excellent; his friendly, informative approach made an essential contribution to the success of the holiday.
A beautiful apartment with a lovely wood burner fire. The property was very well equipped, everything provided for you. Hot tub was amazing, lovely & warm, great to get in after being out on a cold January day. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. We loved Bishops Castle, it is a very old historic town with great pubs, food & friendly people.
This was an excellent flat with street level access for the disabled and easy bathroom facilities. The lounge was great; large and light with plenty of comfortable seating. The place was very warm with copious hot water for a winter holiday. All the amenities were top notch. The owner went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. The location was great; on the edge of the town with views out across to the Long Mynd but close to all local amenities.
Liked the hot tub and the peace and quiet, the owner was very helpful. Also liked the general location and the lovely apartment. We will be back.
Because of our large party, we rented the Brewhouse as an addition to the Old Schoolhouse - giving us maximum flexibility of accommodation and a haven for the most senior members of the family. All the facilities were excellent - and our stay was much enhanced by the support that we had from a most welcoming owner.
We loved our trip. Enjoyed the hot tub, tennis and local pubs and shops! A great apartment with a good lounge/seating area to play games and chat with friends.
A lovely cottage on the edge of the market town of Bishops Castle. It has everything you need and a little extra. The hot tub is a real delight and fantastic for that early morning coffee or relaxing after a day exploring the area (I can recommend Lake Vyrnwy, beautiful). The cottage was roomier than expected with a large lounge and two good sized bedrooms. The wood burner was lovely and there was plenty of fuel provided. Bishops Castle is a nice little town and I would definitely stay here again.
"The cottage is a little gem in the lovely market town of Bishop's Castle. The hot tub was a real delight; the place to be for an early morning coffee or a glass of bubbly at night."
I loved the simplicity of how a great time is achieved. Relaxing atmosphere, great food within a minutes walk, local ales with history & the hot tub is amazing.
Location and accommodation fab, hot tub and wood burner great. Would definitely stay here again. Love Bishops Castle.
The lounge/dining room was very spacious and comfortable. The whole property was furnished and equipped to a very high standard.
A lovely place to stay, enjoyed the hot tub, the local pubs and Indian restaurant.
We have just had 4 lovely days here its so relaxing, enjoyed a game of tennis relaxed in the hot tub, our 2nd visit to this lovely apartment which is very spacious and nice to have your own TV's in the bedroom, lovely surrounding areas to vist.
Stayed for one week this August and loved every minute! Furnishings of the highest standard and immaculate! Little touches like good bedding and towels made the difference. The hot tub made the place extra special
The location was excellent to either stop at the accommodation or venture out, we did both. The countryside and roads were great to travel on, mainly enhanced by the scenery. To have access to a hot tub was excellent in lovely surroundings. The list goes on..
Convenient location for our activities and a very comfortable base. Loved the hot tub!
The location of the property was ideal. The cottage owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The property was very comfortable and well equipped - one of the best self catering properties I have stayed in. Hot tub was a wonderful bonus.
We would strongly recomend this place to stay. Very clean and cosy. The town is a bit quiet, was difficult to find a place to eat on Sunday, so you better plan in advance :)
The property was situated close enough to the lovely town centre that was full of friendly locals, but just far enough away to have you think that the setting was more rural offering privacy, peace and quiet. The property was excellent and had everything that was needed! We did meet the owner who was very welcoming, as too were everyone that we encountered over the short break. In conclusion we would definitely come back again
The tennis court was wonderful. The owner was lovely and extremely helpful, he could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. A fabulous holiday all round.
Great holiday home, in beautiful surroundings. Would recommend it to anybody !
The apartment was a good size and perfect for our requirements. Bishops Castle as a location was great with some lovely local walks and interesting days out just a short drive away.
Well-equipped accommodation with friendly and helpful owner. Excellent location on the edge of town with all amenities in walking distance. The hot tub was a particular delight. Certainly intend to return.
We have stay here twice within four weeks, the accommodation is of the highest standard, there is everything you think of to make your stay perfect. The standard of furnishings in the apartment are high quality, which gives you a sense of luxury which makes your breakaway even more special as you feel like you are renting a luxury apartment. The kitchen is again high quality with everything you could need to create a filling meal after a day exploring the beautiful surroundings, the added bonus of a slow cooker is fantastic and the dishwasher also makes it more of a rest not having to do the the dishes after a meal. The log burner with the endless supply of logs made for cosy evening, as well as the hot tub which was a fantastic way to start and end the day with complete relaxation. The owner of the apartment was so helpful and welcoming, and really cared that you were comfortable and enjoyed your stay. All in all we had two fantastic holidays and would recommend it to anyone visiting Shropshire as nowhere could match the standard of holiday accommodation on offer.
Was a brilliant first time experience, very spacious, and loved the hot tub, we were in it every single day.
Made very welcome by our host. Hot tub was very relaxing after our walks around the beautiful area. The location of the property was ideal, close to restaurants and bars.
Spacious and comfortable. Garden with summer house and hot tub. WiFi recently added. Very convenient for the interesting town (hilly). Within easy reach of a lot of good hill walking and cycling. Warm reception from helpful friendly owner.
The owner was there to greet us on our arrival and made us feel very welcome. The cottage was lovely, very cosy and the hot tub was a wonderful bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
The owner gave us a very warm welcome and the cottage was great with lots of space and luxurious furnishings. The hot tub was to die for - we really didn't want to leave!
A very well appointed let with a super hot tub in the garden which allowed views of the Shropshire countryside. The bedrooms were luxuriously set up with TVs and i-pod docks. The kitchen was satisfactory (a few more utensils would have been useful). The location in relation to the town was ideal with a five minute walk into the centre. A wide range of hostelries and cafes was present. The garden was a relaxing place to while away the evening although the road noise was a little intrusive.
The beds where fantastic, so comfortable, and the hot tub was fantastic. The owner very welcoming and helpful.
The garden and hot tub was a great success, shame our tennis skills did not do justice to the court. Very close to amenities and some excellent pubs/restaurants.
We appreciated the personal approach adopted by the owner who lives close by. The location proved ideal as a base for a walking holiday and was also peaceful at night. Facilities of particular value: separate utility room (ideal place to dry out our walking clothes), comfortable bed (I wanted to take it home!), the outdoor hot tub, and iPod docks in every room.
Everyone was friendly and helpful. Close proximity to very good pubs and restaurants etc., everything you might need was within walking distance. The property was just right for us, very comfortable - the hot tub outside, parking, the location - we just liked everything about The Schoolhouse Brewhouse. The Owner made sure a friend came to welcome us as he was unable to initially, and later was friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Would love to go back and stay there again.
Very spacious and comfortable - quiet and also very near the town. Near good walking and cycling. We are returning to the same property in September.
We particularly enjoyed the location, the hot tub and the tennis courts.
The holiday was fantastic, liked the hot tub and tennis court.
Have just had a lovely weeks holiday here, so relaxing, hot tub was fantastic used every day, another bonus was the tennis courts, the owner was really friendly came to check that every thing was ok, beds were so comfortable and liked it that both bedrooms had their own shower and toilet, will certainly go back, only one niggle there is a busy road next to it, but didn't bother us. fantastic town and real ale pubs.
Lovely location to explore the surrounding countryside and the hot tub was lovely to come back to every evening
A very comfortable property in an excellent location. The care taken by the owner was personal but unobtrusive. We couldn't ask for more.
The property was of a very high standard and very spacious. The hot tub was lovely and relaxing and the tennis courts kept kids entertained for hours!
Wonderful location, a very helpful owner. Lots of interesting places to visit not too far away.
I returned for the second time, so what does this tell you? A wonderful time was had! A lovely area with plenty to see!
Lovely place, great owner who really cares that you enjoy the holiday. Hot tub was great fun and made for an exciting end to most days for the kids.
Wonderful high standard property. Comfortable beds, large showers, quality furnishings and an owner who couldn't have been more helpful. The hot tub was amazing! Loved our break and so did our toddler. Can't fault this property at all, it really was a home from home, owner has gone that extra mile.
Hot tub & old tennis court lots of fun - some great local info from land lord & nice touches with fresh flowers & ordnance map. Lovely place & very helpful & friendly owner.
