20/08 - 27/08/2016 we stayed at The Sail Loft, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. First of all we collected the keys from the caretaker / owner at 1600. The Sail Loft is located just outside Yarmouth near Victoria Fort. A very pleasant location just on The Solent with the beach just yards from the Loft. Parking is at the front which is shared by all 7 units and The Boathouse Restaurant next door, we had no problem parking. The loft is a two bedroom apartment with main living area kitchen diner all in one, with a shower room sink etc. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The loft is the biggest unit out of the seven, and easily accommodates a family of four. We paid £666. For one week which I thought was ok. I would rate this property 7 out of 10, or 3 Star. Why? Well, we found the loft pleasant enough but there were things that would make it better. The kitchen was basic, to basic, with old pots and pans (quite an old frying pan that needed bining to be honest) that needed updating along with the fridge that had a damaged door. The hot water in the kitchen is slow to run. Dining area is fine, the lounge area, the suite was tired, grubby rug/carpet and a seen better days coffee table. An older TV and digibox, which kept dropping the signal and no DVD player or board games etc., for that bit of evening entertainment. I have stayed in cottages with WiFi, and it can make a difference. Fresh sheets and quilt covers supplied but take your own towels. We would of anyway. Unfortunately the unit was not as clean as we expected with cob webs, fluff and other dusty pieces of furniture. These sort of things make all the difference to returning clients and ones who will not. The one outstanding asset is the view from the balcony windows absolutely fantastic. Big ships, yachts, small boats all pass by your window. It is a good base to explore the island which we did extensively. Our recommended bits are; 1. The Needles Old Battery plus the walk upto Tennyson Monument around 2 miles there and back. 2. The Alum Bay glass works within The Needles. There are other attractions but they were tacky. 3. Adventure Activities at Freshwater Bay, paddle boarding, sea kayaking etc. 4. Ryde Beach, best place up by the Old Watch Tower. 5. Arreton Barnes craft centre. 6. Oasis home style outlet. 7. Yarmouth Harbour and Pier. 8. On The Rocks Grill - Steak and Fish with a twist. 9. On the Rails Bistro - Yarmouth Old Railway Station, we really liked that. 10. The Boathouse Restaurant, especially for a cooked breakie! Overall we had a great week. Lucky with the weather which topped out at 30c. But would we stay at the sail loft again.....? Answer is No, only that there to many other places. Saying that maybe one day .
Great views and a fairly peaceful and very convenient position. The apartment is very spacious with good parking and instant access to the beach and sea. Down side was the apartment is in need of a little updating with particular attention to the pillows and bedding. It would have been nice to have had a dvd player and also internet access. Having said that the owner was very quick to help with any minor problem we had. I would certainly visit again as this is such a wonderful spot.
There was an amazing view over The Solent from this lovely apartment. Had a superb holiday and the weather was perfect. There was so much to see on the Isle of Wight. Didn't see anywhere on the island that could have been more lovely than this one with its fabulous view and balcony.
The Sail Loft was lovely. The view was amazing & like nowhere we have ever stayed before. It was warm, comfortable & frankly wonderful. There was adequate parking & we had no issues with noise. Yarmouth is a truly charming place. The walk in from the Sail Loft was 15-20 minutes, but delightful. We would return without a second thought.
The location of the property is ideal. Close to Yarmouth and bus routes. Views of the sea/Solent very interesting. The property was comfortable and warm which given I was there in November was vital.
A comfortable, clean and well maintained property with excellent views. The apartment overlooks the Solent and is within walking distance of Yarmouth with its shops and eating places. A brilliant holiday apartment for a family.
Really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It was very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The view from the front room was a fantastic panoramic view of the Solent. The apartment is within easy walking distance of Yarmouth, which is a lovely picturesque village with a good selection of shops and eating places. We will definitely be booking this apartment again.
This is the second time we have rented this property, as the location is superb. To open the French windows and hear the sea on the shingle is wonderful, and to watch the boats on the Solent, and to hear the rain on the roof is all very soothing. Also the new Boathouse restaurant was an added bonus.
The beach location of the property and views of the sea from the main living area.
We had a week at SailLoft, the perfect place to stay for a few quiet days with only the sound of the sea for company. It is within walking distance of Yarmouth for great places to eat and Yarmouth is so convenient for the ferry.
A great location by the sea!
The view and the lay out. It was very clean and quiet, so peaceful and we would go again.
This property is a gem - superb location and the outlook from the lounge is hard beat.
Best location cottage we've stayed at,views over the sea are outstanding.Good clean facilities.A super holiday
The location of the property, listening to the waves and watching the boats. It was a joy to return to after a day out.
We wanted to be close to the sea. As we booked late (and were going to the island during Cowes week!) we did not really expect to get in, but... Sail Loft is actually on the beach!! The view from the lounge is like being on a ship, but without the movement. The house was spotlessly clean and offered excellent accomodation. Good kitchen and bathroom facilities too. Ok, so the ceilings get low in places. That might bother some people, but we loved it. The location is 'out of town' and you need your own transport, but Fort Victoria is a place we know well, so there were no surprises there. We all hope to go there again; what more can I say?
We enjoyed the fantastic view from the lounge. We wanted a sea view and the apartment felt almost like a cruise, but without the motion. As for the 'star' rating, we felt it should be higher! We plan to book the flat again.
A lovely, clean, well equipped property with fantastic sea views.
A lovely, quiet location right on the waterfront.
The location and cottage. The Isle Of Wight is worth visiting.
It is a super flat right on the edge of the Solent. Very easy to find, 5 minutes from the ferry. Spacious.
