Swallow's Nest, Penrith

Swallows Nest is at the beginning of Catterlen, a series of houses stretching along both sides of the same road. Access from the M6 is very convenient with junction 41 being about 400 yards away. It is exceptionally well-equipped with good quality furnishings and fittings. The downside is the lack of a garden or any other area to sit outside on a summer's evening. The bench and table shown in the picture were not there during our stay. Equally, there are very limited views from the square window in the lounge (also shown in the photo). There are no views from the back of the property, unless you stand on a chair. The second bedroom with twin beds is very small, probably best for young children.

Immaculate property Extremely well appointed fitted kitchen, plenty of cupboard space and lovely big table which accommodated our 1000 piece jigsaw and still had plenty of room for us to eat at ! Nice touch of basic provisions being provided for our arrival - bread/croissants/milk/orange juice/wine, all much appreciated Quality of cottage was evident everywhere from lovely bed linen to nice touches such as provision of small torches at bedside as very dark going to the en-suite during the night Plenty of info in cottage(laminated for easy cleaning) Would highly recommend

We trawled the internet for hours trying to find the perfect Lakeland cottage and we were truly delighted. Swallows Nest is the perfect place to look forward to coming home to after a hard days walking. Debbie and Derek have made the perfect holiday destination for us and thankyou for going out of your way making us feel very welcome. We have had a wonderful week visiting Kendal, Windermere, Keswick, Carlisle and Penrith not to mention miles of walking around Buttermere, Scale Force, Derwent water and up to Aira Force at Ullswater and Pooley Bridge. We were blessed with good weather and stunning views but the crowning glory goes to Debbie and Derek for providing Swallows Nest. We have booked again for 2017.

Back from another February stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our family chose to return because your holiday starts as you step through the door. Everything is maintained to a meticulous standard by Debbie who welcomes you just like family. We love the area with Penrith being only 5 mins away and it's full of shops, restaurants, take-sways etc, as well as several supermarkets from Booths to Aldi. The stunning lake Ullswater is your closest lake around 15 minutes drive away. I love everything about Swallow's Nest and will certainly be returning soon.

Swallows Nest is the perfect holiday cottage. An immaculately turned out barn conversion with all the modern conveniences. It is run by a lovely family with a hands on personal touch.

We liked the warm welcome and helpful, caring attitude of the owners. Throughout the week, they were really helpful when needed. The situation of the cottage also provides easy access to the marvellous scenery and places to visit within the Lake District.

The cottage was outstanding with everything you need, we were amazed that the little details had been catered for. The owners are lovely and really made us feel welcome.

We have stayed several times at Swallows Nest and each time it has been perfect! The cottage is contemporary and stylish yet feels very homely and cosy! The cottage has everything you could want and two bathrooms make it ideal for a family. The hosts are so friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. Penrith with Booths supermarket is less than 10 mins away as is Ullswater. Fabulous and we cannot wait to stay again!

If you are wanting a location that can access the Lake District and beyond, this is your place. It may have tight bedrooms but the view from the upstairs and space to spread out is great after a day of running around. The kitchen was better than my own at home.

We felt totally at home in the beautiful cottage and nothing was too much trouble for the owners to make our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. We enjoyed the freedom to come and go as we pleased and, whilst our accommodation was in a peaceful rural location, we were only minutes away from nearby pubs and Penrith was just a short drive away. We look forward to making a return visit in the future. The property is upside down insomuch that the two bedrooms (one with en suite) and bathroom are on the ground floor with stairs leading up to the living room, kitchen and dining area.

It was our first time staying at Swallow's Nest and we will definitely be going back. It was so cosy, we had everything we needed and we were well looked after also. A fantastic holiday.

We stayed here for a week in March and were made ever so welcome by our hosts. A lovely guide around the property and a welcoming drink was a very nice touch. The property has been very well and thoughtfully constructed from and old stable area and everything you need is provided, beds extremely comfortable, even WIFI. It's an upside down design which worked very well for us. Warm throughout with underfloor heating downstairs was always nice to enter after a cold long walking day. Our hosts were always happy to have a chat and see if anything else was needed or chat about the area and events. Very close to the M6 junction 41 exit so no long drive down country lanes to search in the dark. This gives easy access to all parts. We will certainly come back for future stays.

I would recommend this rental, especially at Xmas because of the lovely log burner - very cosy and comfortable place near to Penrith with a range of shops and resteraunts.

Our 4th stop, will not be our last. Debbie does an amazing job with this property, nothing to fault, Wish we could keep it secret so when we want to go we always will be able to, but it deserves to be experienced by many lucky people,

The location is excellent, being close to junction 41 on the M6 allows easy access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian's Wall. One of the best properties we have stayed over many years.

Swallows' Nest was excellent. It has everything we needed especially that I have young family. The owner was very helpful and sweet. The Lake District was beautiful part of the country. I would definitely recommend it, and I'm sure I will go back again.

Swallow's Nest is a superb cottage, spotlessly clean with a very friendly owner.

As soon as you enter the cottage the quality of material used is fantastic. Every room is finished to a high standard. The master bedroom and its en suite have heated floors, as does the other bedroom and the main bathroom. Upstairs in the kitchen and lounge which is spacious with comfy seats, the kitchen has everything you need. Upstairs has radiators, the water pressure is fantastic with hot water straight away. The wifi is a little slow to what I'm used to but nothing to get upset about. The owners are very nice, not in your face all the time but there if you need them. The cottage is in a quiet village but close enough to main roads. Overall a great place to go to for a week or a few days.

There is a warm welcome awaiting from the owner to this amazing upside down barn conversion, situated just a minute from the M6 motorway and convenient for jaunts both to the Lakes and the lovely Cumbrian villages further east. Clean, comfortable and quiet, with modern décor, plus upgraded WiFi, it was a joy to spend the week here - Our best self catering break in over 40 years. Highly recommended.

It was really like a home from home, with everything you could possibly need. Also, the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

The owners were very helpful and welcoming. Their hospitality was second to none, as they provide you with a 'welcome package' to ensure you don't have to rush out for necessities. The cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spotless. My children were even able to feed their lambs and it just made our stay there that little bit more special.

We spent a four night break with friends and found the accommodation perfect, meeting all out needs. The barn was beautifully converted to a very high standard, and the décor and comfort of the accommodation was excellent. The owners extremely friendly and helpful in every way. Overall, the Swallows Nest was a great place to stay. A major town was nearby for all requirements, with good access to the lakes and villages of the district.

Accommodation excellent in every way. It was like walking into a dream home. Nothing out of place and the welcome package had everything you needed and more. Luxury comes to mind, surrounds lovely, places to see just minutes away. Owners really nice and helpful. Truly brilliant place cannot wait to go again.

We stayed in February at Swallow's Nest and could not have been happier with the accommodation. Everything was very stylish, everything had been thought of and we were warm and cosy despite the February chill. The log fire is lovely to snuggle around. The situation is excellent for the northern Lakes with great access to the M6 and a66. Could not have been happier with things.

Great welcome, relaxed approach, every need had been thoughtfully anticipated, with Easter Eggs for the weekend as an extra to the welcome pack. The holiday was very relaxing, with this property very well situated for the northern lakes and the Eden Valley. The warmth and quality of the property made for a relaxing, enjoyable evening after a good day enjoying the countryside.

We have just returned from a fantastic new year break at this cottage with some friends and would highly recommend it. It is beautifully decorated and has pretty much everything you could need for a short break. Wi-fi, underfloor heating and powerful showers were just a few of the things that we really appreciated. The owners were really friendly and helpful and provided a good deal of written information on the surrounding area. The cottage is perfectly situated just off the M6 (no traffic noise at all), which meant that we could easily travel to Penrith, Ullswater and beyond. There's plenty to do in the local area and it was lovely to come back to this homely cottage at the end of each day. Would definitely return.

The cottage was decorated and maintained to a very high standard. The owners provided a very warm welcome and the welcome pack was very thoughtfully put together. The cottage was very conveniently situated approx 5 or so minutes from the M6 but still nestled within lovely countryside. This made it an ideal base for visiting such places as Ullswater and Lake Windermere. We had a very enjoyable stay.

Stayed for a week to visit the Lake District for the first in many years, we looked around a chose this cottage on location, reviews and having parking for two cars. As others have said this is an upside down barn conversion with a double and "compact" twin, with a good size lounge, dining and kitchen areas upstairs. The conversion had been carried out last year to a very high standard, we loved the bathroom and would have happily taken it home with us, and the furnishings were generally good. Downsides? The Wifi was not really usable and there is no garden - but neither of these things spoiled our holiday in any way

Swallow's Nest is a perfectly quaint cottage, decorated beautifully with everything provided. Our Christmas break was made perfect by the little extra's provided by the extremely helpful and friendly owners.

The owners of this holiday accommodation were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. We loved the rural location and the wood burning stove was a definite plus!

We stayed at Swallow's nest for our anniversary in Sept 11. The interior was finished to a very high standard, it was like staying in a 5 star hotel. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed buying the amazing produce of the lake district and cooking it up back at the cottage, enjoying the views as we ate. The location is good, close to Penrith town centre, and good transport links into the Lake District. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back.

We rented Swallow's Nest with another couple for a week's stay in the Lake District - and all 4 of us were very impressed with the friendly welcome from Debbie. The amenities in the cottage were all of a high standard, the kitchen was fitted to impressive level as well. The location was fairly well suited for us to explore the area for the first time, we all really enjoyed the whole experience and will be back for another visit very soon. It only took half an hour to get to Kendal and Carlisle so most convenient. Only slight downside was the twin bedded room was on the cramped side and did not have much storage space.

The cottage was in a very good position to explore the Lakes and beyond. The whole area is stunning and we will definitely be visiting again.

The Lake District is beautiful and the cottage was everything we expected. Beautifully decorated and equipped. It was home from home, very comfortable and in easy reach of all the Lake districts attractions. Only met the owner on arrival and as we departed but she seemed lovely and we would not hesitate to return.

Best ever cottage in over twenty years self catering!

This cottage was very comfortable, we received a lovely welcome from the owners. The cottage was in a delightful village not far from the motorway therefore we spent of our time exploring the area. The cottage was well equipped with superior bathrooms and kitchen. A real home from home!

This holiday let was the highest standard that we have come across so far and we have stayed in a good number. The hospitality of the owners was great. We had a very enjoyable week.
