Situated on the banks of the River Annan, the historic town of Annan was once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. In honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, every year, the town celebrates with parades, massed pipe bands and competitions. Many small towns, villages, hamlets and stunning sandy beaches make up the area around the town. Further afield are the city of Glasgow, the abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh, plus the northern part of the Lake District and Hadrian's Wall. Annan and the surrounding area are a perfect base, at any time of the year.
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Went away for a few nights break with a friend. We were welcomed by the owner who showed us round. Cottage was a cosy, homely place with ample space throughout. The hot tub was really good and handy that its indoors with a shower/WC. It's a working farm with livestock but wasn't put off by that. Would go back again.
We liked the farm setting, animals and the very welcoming owners. The kitchen was well equipped, the bedrooms were comfortable and the heating was great.
A well set up cottage with plenty of room for two. A good base for exploring Southern Scotland. Enjoyed our stay.
The host of the property was lovely. The accommodation was very clean and smart looking and very warm. The place was situated in a very quiet location and we could go and leave as we please. It was a very relaxing holiday with the added bonus of a hot tub room with TV. A very nice place to stay.
The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, we received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owner, and she was more than happy to make our holiday both memorable and enjoyable and we would be more than happy to stay in the cottage again! The location was ideal for us to attend a wedding at Gretna Green as Dumbretton Farm is only 10 minutes drive away. We visited many places during our stay including Edinburgh, Stirling and Roslyn Chapel, but the highlight of the week had to be visiting the Red Kite Feeding station in Laurieston which was a truly amazing experience and well worth the 1 hour drive.
The property far exceeded all expectations in every respect. The owner and the 2 dogs gave us a charming welcome and her attention to detail including welcome tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh flowers was much appreciated. We have never stayed in a rented property so well equipped or cared for. It was a real treat.
Dumbretton Farm is extremely beautiful and clean. Everything that you would need in a home is provided in the cottage. Owners are very nice and welcoming. This meant that all you had to do was find your entertainment. The games room was brilliant with table tennis and the hot tub was amazing. The park and grass area was fab too with plenty space to play games. Definitely a relaxing holiday break for a family. We ventured out to Dumfries and Carlisle and found plenty places to visit.
The absolute friendliness shown by the Owner. A welcome including fresh flowers, two pints of milk, supply of tea, coffee, sugar, variety of herbs and condiments - it was definitely home from home. Exceptionally clean farm premises, a working farm, very busy but immaculately clean. A well equipped playing field for any age children, plus hot tub etc. Two very friendly and well trained dogs came to welcome us each time we returned to the premises. Merits all of the excellent ratings I have given. Even the weather was good!
It was very easy to find. The owners were lovely and very friendly. Their younger son entertained our children. Hot tub was fantastic, overall a great place.
For a quiet, good, entertaining holiday with a difference The Loft is a must! The hot-tub was brill as well as the games room. If you are the type of family who likes visiting places, it is a perfect central point.
Good property for visiting the area and excellent for children.
The owners of the cottage went above and beyond to accommodate us and make us feel welcomed. We would definitely go back.
The hot tub and Duke the dog.
Cottage was nice and clean and welcoming!
