Reviews

After reading the reviews this seemed a lively place to stay, but our experience was different, We arrived on the Friday evening and it was not as advertised on sykes website, with scaffolding on the building, so couldnt access the garden that is pictured on Sykes website. The lady advised us when we arrived about scaffolding and building work, but we should have been advised of this before we arrived. Shower had body hair in, cups and teapot dirty needed a good bleach, we had to wash cutlery also as that was not clean. stains on the sofa couches ( that tbh were just couches with an arm that should fold down but didn't stay down and extremely uncomfortable. When we spoke to the owner, she explained that it was because of the cleaner, however the owner lived on site, she should really be checking everything before visitors arrive. Needless to sat we left.

We have just returned from our stay at The school room and wanted to write a review as my husband, son and I had a lovely time staying here. We had the most relaxing time and found it such a peaceful, tranquil location. We had the best nights sleep in a long time. It’s a truly stunning apartment and to be honest we all fell in love with the place.

Our family of four had a wonderful stay in this cosy and homely room. Everything in one large square open plan space, separated by a couple of cast iron pillars, each corner has its function. Everyone can spread out and still feel cosy regardless of which corner they are in. The owners live upstairs and are ever so friendly and helpful, we felt very welcome, with a few fun touches for the children as well. Everything worked, with equipment like the hob and oven being to a very high standard. The (blue) front door is literally a doorstep to Offa's Dyke path which passes along the street outside, and for cyclists there are several possible routes which are not too hilly or busy with traffic. With Kington being right on the border with Wales, there is stunningly beautiful if different landscapes on either side of the border: the gentle Herefordshire hills are a patchwork quilt of yellows and greens, while the more rugged side in Wales offers dramatically steep hills. During our stay we also enjoyed paddling and swimming in several local rivers, it really is a wonderful area!

The whole process of booking, communication, directions to the property and key collection went very smoothly. Although one room, the accommodation is very spacious & indeed bigger than many apartments, with comfortable furniture. The kitchen is very well equipped, the WiFi excellent, the bed comfortable, cable TV and lots of books and games. The hosts were friendly but not intrusive. We would happily recommended the property to others.,

Stayed here with two friends for a as we were attending a wedding in Shobden. What an absolute gem of a place. Very clean and comfortable. Well equipped. Delightful. The owners were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We left early to return home so missed being able to thank them. Will definitely return. Such a lovely part of the country and Kington was great.

We had a lovely two weeks in the Schoolroom. It was really comfortable and spacious. A real home from home. Every thing we needed. The kitchen was well equipped too. We went on some really lovely walks around the area. A lovely relaxing holiday.

Quaint and unusual setting, and very nicely done out. Everything we needed was provided with an excellent range of kitchen equipment and crockery. The old schoolroom atmosphere was lovely, and the little courtyard a delight.

This property was plenty roomy for my wife and I. There were great views of the surrounding hills from the living room. Everything was clean and well stocked. The area is quiet and within easy walking distance of everything in Kington. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

We absolutely loved the space and were extremely happy to have been able to stay there. It was a picturesque setting and provided our small family a lovely place to relax. We made full use of the kitchen and we had access to all the comforts of home. Our hostess was extremely kind and we enjoyed meeting her.

A lovely stay in a beautifully sleepy town with excellent walking routes and access to some of the best scenery the country has to offer.

I loved everything about this venue. The lovely little courtyard, the views from the large Georgian windows across the hills in the one direction and towards the village square from the other. It was comfortable, very well equipped and so central to everything and everywhere. Walking into the town was easy, the public transport was accessible too and the owner was very helpful and friendly. There were so many interesting places to visit, all within a manageable distance. Less than an hour away. Hay-on-Wye. Hereford, Ludlow and of course right on the border with Wales. A perfect mixture and I would definitely visit again.

The uniqueness and style of the room was wonderful. The old school room is centrally located in Kington, close to shops and pubs and is perfect for couples.

The Schoolroom is very private and it was a delight spending a week in a property filled with so much character. The owners were warm and welcoming on arrival and you knew they were there if needed. The position was great. Green hills to the back and the delightful square to the side and only a short walk down into the quaint High Street of Kington. I loved the fact that you could use the bus if you wanted to for trips to surrounding areas. Most enjoyable week.

Rated by Ms Storch reviewed on 4th October 2014

The School Room was unusual, as it was all contained in one very large room. However, this was cleverly arranged with well defined areas and very tasteful furnishings and fittings. Ideal for a couple (as we were) and spotlessly clean throughout. Car parking was very close and we had no difficulties in finding a space. Information and pictures were excellent before the visit. Owner helpful and friendly.

Rated by Mrs Gwatkin reviewed on 27th September 2014

A lovely peaceful location but close to the town of Kington and all it's amenities, which was brilliant. The landlady was lovely, did not bother us at all but was there if we needed anything. It was a perfect week and we feel really refreshed and relaxed. Beautiful accommodation, I feel we will visit there again.

Rated by Mrs Ward reviewed on 28th June 2014

The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and full of character. It was great to have towels and linens included, and other special touches. It is situated in a beautiful area, and we particularly enjoyed Hergest Croft Gardens on the outskirts of Kington.

Rated by Mrs Begin reviewed on 24th May 2014

For our needs the property was ideally situated as we were in the area to visit friends and family and also to sight see and walk. The are good bus connections so we did not have to rely on driving each day.

Very welcoming and accommodating owner. The room was exactly as advertised and had a lovely character and feel to it. Really well furnished kitchen, considering the age of the property, and the WiFi was very reliable. Overall, a really lovely, relaxing place to stay that I'd recommend to everyone.

Spacious open plan with some antique furniture spread around a delightful setting. Situated In a village brimming with history, antique shops, buildings, modern supermarkets and outstanding countryside. Very helpful owners and located only minutes from shops, pubs and restaurant. Great value for money.

Rated by Mr Russell reviewed on 24th January 2014

My wife and I loved this converted school room. Spacious main area with purpose-built little bathroom incorporated in one corner of the large room. We especially loved the 2 large sofas where we could both stretch out luxuriously after a stiff walk in the surrounding hills. The place was beautifully warm. Kitchen generally well equipped, though a few half pint tumblers would have come in useful (there were only small or pint sized glasses). This is not a criticism, but the property only having one room means the first person up in the morning has to be very considerate about putting the light on if the other person is still fast asleep. As a suggestion, curtaining off the whole bed area would make all the difference. Owners very friendly. Kington had loads of character and charm, and the school room was brilliantly located for wandering into town within 2 mins. Would definitely consider returning.

Property is well situated in Kington - quiet and peaceful. Lots of useful information provided about the area and walking leaflets. Range of TV channels if wanting to stay in and very comfortable sitting area. Plenty of opportunities to eat out but kitchen area well-stocked with utensils etc if eating in.

A warm welcome by the very helpful hosts. We enjoyed the thoughtful extras (milk, flowers, chocolates) for Easter. The School Room was spacious, and very comfortable - a home away from home. It was well equipped, WiFi internet worked perfectly, local information was provided in the well stocked bookshelf. Car parking was nearby and safe. We highly recommend the School Room and would like to come back another time.
