Reviews

Used as a base for a 3 day break with my Mum. Beautifully restored building with modern decor but retaining some period features. Located in sleepy little village with a couple of pubs, shop etc within walking distance. Made most welcome by the owners with coffee, milk, biscuits and fresh eggs provided for us on arrival. Easy 15 min drive to the Rawcliffe park and ride to access York centre or about the same distance from Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall etc all well worth visiting. All in all a perfect relaxing break... I would recommend to anyone!

This was our second stay and not our last. It is the perfect base for whatever type of holiday/break you are looking for. It was very clean and perfectly cosy.

An amazing cottage in beautiful surroundings with lovely hosts who were very welcoming. It was family friendly, and our children loved the chickens down the garden. Would definitely recommend it for families or couples.

The Croft Granary at Stillington was in a very good location for visiting the City of York and other scenic and historic places in North Yorkshire.

Lovely, friendly welcome from the owners. A first class accommodation with everything provided.

Rated by Mr Wigmore reviewed on 31st October 2014

Good, honest, clean accommodation. Good location with excellent local pub, shop and fish and chip shop. Well located for York with good bus service despite the really rural village atmosphere. Close enough to nearby attractions for easy trips out yet cosy and quiet enough to spend pleasant time at the cottage.

Rated by Mr Dennis reviewed on 20th October 2014

The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The cottage is situated in a quiet corner of the village and the village itself has two excellent pubs, a fish & chip shop, an Indian restaurant and Post Office/general store.

This was our 4th visit, such a clean homely cottage. It was handy for all amenities & the coast, York and lovely villages.

Rated by Mrs Wearing reviewed on 10th June 2014

Service from Diane and Mike was excellent and nothing seemed too much trouble. They provided us with eggs and a lovely welcome pack. We had 4 adults in our party and had a large double room and a smaller twin room. Although there was only one shower, it coped very well. Location was excellent for touring around and the White Bear and the Indian restaurant were great for meals. We also cooked several nights and there were plenty of glasses, cutlery and crockery and cooking utensils. We would have liked to have stayed longer!

Rated by Rhonda M reviewed on 5th June 2014

The owners were very friendly. The accommodation was warm and comfortable. The setting was peaceful and quiet, and the surroundings villages and countryside were lovely, but York was not too far away. There was plenty to do for both adults and an 8 year old.

Croft Granary is a perfect base for exploring York and the surrounding areas. The house has all the facilities you need in a cosy atmosphere. More than enough room for 4. It's set in an idyllic village with easy access to the house, and parking for more than 1 car. The owners are polite and friendly, making sure you have everything you need, but leave you to enjoy your holiday in peace. It's also the most space and best facilities we've had for such a reasonable price. There's also ten-pin bowling, a cinema, crazy golf and a large supermarket in close proximity. Lovely to be surrounded by sheep and chickens, the ideal countryside experience.

Rated by Plum reviewed on 20th July 2013

We really liked the cottage, it was ideal for our holiday, a perfect base. It was just the right mix of modern and cosy and close enough to York that we could easily drive in there everyday. It was also isolated enough for us, but the roads were easy and safe to drive.

Rated by Ms Tippett reviewed on 9th June 2013

A comfortable base in a pleasant village with easy access to many places of interest; the bus for York and all its attractions stops in the village, Fountains Abbey, Castle Howard, Bennington Hall... I could go on and on!

Rated by Mrs Crust reviewed on 10th September 2012

The cottage was clean and very comfortable. It is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds which are beautiful and unspoilt. Our host was extremely welcoming. We believe the cottage should have a four star rating rather than a three.

Rated by Mr Searle reviewed on 26th August 2012

The cottage was conveniently located for trips into York using the Park & Ride and also for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage was very clean & nicely presented. The owners supplying eggs from their chickens was a lovely touch.

Great property, very modern. very friendly and helpful owners even providing fresh eggs from their chickens and milk for drinks upon arrival. unfortunately no internet access or phone signal. This was the only problem as everything else was fantastic.

Rated by Mr Sawczuk reviewed on 30th October 2011

A recently converted granary type home in a very good position beside the village green with easy access and private parking beside the cottage. The owners live beside the cottage and are most pleasant and helpful. Accommodation was very clean and well presented, plus had excellent heating should the weather be cold.It had all one could wish for, plus a fenced outside patio area with water feature ( safe for children) with long views to distant hills. The village is well kept and interesting with a wide range of old buildings , plus some good places to eat out and a small village shop . There are plenty of places to visit only a short drive away ; York Park and Ride is about 20 minutes drive and is an easy way to get to the centre areas of York. The neighbour with the Steam Engines was very amicable and kindly showed me his collection of vehicles one evening which I found most interesting. We had no noise problems what so ever. We would love to return another year as one week was not enough.

Accurate directions took us straight to our holiday accommodation. The cottage has been recently renovated and tastefully decorated, was spotlessly clean and contained everything we needed. Tea, coffee and milk were provided, so that we could make ourselves a hot drink on arrival. The owners were helpful and friendly and kindly supplied us with fresh eggs throughout the week. The location was perfect for visiting stately homes and other buildings of interest, as well as being within easy reach of the North York moors, the Yorkshire Dales and the City of York.

Rated by Pauline F reviewed on 19th August 2011

This lovely cottage was in an excellent position in a delightful quiet village within easy distance of the York P&R bus, and very convenient for touring this area of Yorkshire. The owners were most friendly and we loved the roaming rabbits, chickens and pet dog. The neighbour was not noisy and kindly showed me around his steam traction engines which I found most interesting. The local eating out was excellent and the owners friendly and chatty.

Rated by Mr Free reviewed on 11th July 2011

Everything we needed was there in the cottage, which has been refurbished recently, so it was like walking into a new house. The owners were very friendly and they kindly provided tea, coffee and milk for our arrival, plus fresh eggs throughout the week! The cottage is very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and we felt very at home there. The Croft Granary is ideally placed for visiting many places of interest plus the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales.

Rated by Mrs Beshong reviewed on 13th June 2011

Had a fabulous week. The owner met us on arrival and showed us around the property. Lovely cottage, very comfortable. It mentioned in the brochure that we may experience noise from the next door neighbour who renovates steam engines, but this was never a problem and the village was very peaceful. Would definitely recommend a stay.

Rated by Mrs Simpson reviewed on 13th May 2011

Croft Granary was a superb property renovated to a high standard. The family were lovely and we were even given freshly laid eggs from their pet chickens.

We loved everything about this cottage, from the friendly and helpful owners to its position, layout, decor and furnishings. The peaceful surroundings made for a very relaxing holiday and it was only a few miles to York, Harrogate and many other delightful places which really made it special. We will be back !
