Reviews

The 161 steps down to the cottage are a bit daunting but the location of the cottage at the bottom of the cliff make the walk well worth it. Reaching it is one of those WOW moments as you are right on the beach with views of the sea from every window. The luggage comes down on a hoist so no need to worry about struggling down with it. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and was spotless and newly decorated with a seaside theme. Outside was a decked area where you can enjoy meals and drinks right down by the sea you feel so privileged to be there. TIP Take food for at least 3 days as you won't want to leave this idyllic place

From arriving to leaving we can not rate this place enough, It is our new favourite place.. It was a steep walk down but definitely worth every step. Jim met us at the top to help with the luggage ( we didn't pack light but was no problem) luggage went down in a winch as we walked down. every step took our breath away. Beachcomber was stunning very cozy but not to small, all essentials were there making self catering very easy equipped with a fridge and freezer which was great as we took enough food for 3 days so we didn't have to go anywhere. The sea was so calming and so close we just sat, watched and dreamed. Its heaven our dogs had the best holiday ever to. we will be back for sure .. Thank you Jim and Nina

Best beachfront holiday yet. Relaxing waves which soothe the soul to sleep. Mesmerising view that washes away all cares which each ebb of the tides.

An idyllic retreat overlooking the sea!

Rated by Mr Gardiner reviewed on 10th July 2016

This is a very unique place to stay and it's quite a privilege to spend time here, you cannot get any closer to the sea. Listening to the changing tides, seagulls and watching the clouds and seascape change by the minute was a fantastic experience. Drop your 21st century stresses and strains as you take the steps down the cliff and go with the flow, by the end of the week you will be sad to leave. Travel light is the best advice, it's an adventure getting there and you'll leave fitter than you arrived but you cannot fail to be charmed by this special place.

We absolutely fell in love with this property. We have stayed in various properties around Cornwall and this has to be one of the best .The owners were really friendly and helpful but left us to ourselves unless we needed anything. We are going to return.

The location of Beachcomber's Cottage is obviously amazing. It was not an area I had previously visited and now lament how many times I have driven past this area in order to holiday further down in to Cornwall. The owner was exceptionally helpful & similarly amazing It was great to find such an incredible bolt hole and to be able to take my two beloved spaniels made it the best UK based holiday I think I can ever remember. True relaxation in its purest form. I had booked to return within minutes of arriving.

What a fantastic location and our hosts were great and very helpful. Where the place is situated was fabulous and we expected to have paths and steps to go down. A lovely place for a holiday, we will go back again.

The location is fantastic, with unbelievable scenery, the owners are helpful and unobtrusive, the cottage, despite being refurbished was clean and comfortable, and it was an ideal location for our two dogs. It all lived up to our expectations, and would love to visit again.

A great little place to have a holiday with your dog We took our two staffis who were able to run off the lead on the dog friendly beach. The owners met us on the top of cliff and took our luggage down on a winch. Great idea. The cottage is comfortable and warm, the owners friendly but inconspicuous. Lying in bed we could hear the waves crashing close below at high tide. A very special place

Rated by Mrs Lock reviewed on 17th July 2012

Quite a steep climb up and down the cliff but well worth it once you get to the cottage. Simply a wonderful location so near the sea. All the while i was there i could do nothing but gaze out of the window at the tide coming in and going out. You can always hear the sea even when the tide goes out, you are so close you could almost touch it from the window! Ideal for excercising your dog or yourself along the beach. The kitchen is well equiped to cook dinner every night as long as you take your own food. The owner lives next door and is very helpful and friendly. He will meet you at the top of the cliff and take your luggage down on a winch. There is a co-op 2 miles away in Millbrook to get provisions. Good weather is preferable but even when it rains and is stormy it's nice to watch the sea. Had a brilliant time there.

The car has to be left at the top of the cliff, & the cliff path down requires strenuous effort but boy is it worth it! Right by the best sandy beach in the area with the sea lapping beneath the windows at high tide. The cottage is next to the owners take away cafe & living quarters, but still remains private as the entrance is round the side of the building. There is a picnic table & sitting out area overlooking the beach too, where we took all our meals. The cottage is cosy & very clean, with sea views from all windows. The owner Jim is on hand if needed but not intrusive & Nina's fish pie is very tasty! We were extremely lucky with the weather which makes such a difference to this kind of holiday. I wouldn't recommend this as a base for touring the area, simply because of the cliff climb but others are probably fitter than me & prepared to try. All in all, wonderful place to stay for a relaxing holiday-maybe I should have kept it secret!

The location can't be bettered & makes the strenuous climb down worth it! We were so lucky with the weather & had a really relaxing holiday. The accommodation is cosy & welcoming & very clean. We really liked having a private seating area outside for al fresco eating etc. Would recommend heartily. A little piece of heaven!

The wonderful position and view and the fact that it allowed dogs. Bright, friendly and stunning location. The good weather was an unexpected bonus. The winch to deliver and collect luggage etc was an absolute treasure.

Everything about this holiday was perfect, from the position of the cottage to the most beautiful outlook. The dogs was made most welcome by the owners of the property and the on-site lifeguards. The owner was always available if we required anything. This could possibly be the most perfect place on earth.

Rated by Mrs Cummings reviewed on 5th July 2011

Fabulous position on the beach with the waves crashing around us when the tide came in. Miles of deserted beach when the tide went out. Can't wait to go back.

Rated by Newbery reviewed on 13th June 2011

Fabulous position on the beach. Lovely sound of crashing waves and beach all to ourselves. Nice helpful owner and all very friendly.

Rated by Newbery reviewed on 1st June 2011

The location of the property is amazing. Not for those that can't cope with the walk down the steep cliff but for those that can - fantastic. The dogs loved playing on the beach which was not crowded, in fact we hardly saw anyone else on it.

Rated by Miss Robinson reviewed on 21st May 2011

Our stay in Beachcomber's cottage was a very positive experience. We had everything we needed to ensure our stay was comfortable. The fantastic location right on the edge of an unspoiled beach was very special. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, with just the sound of the sea outside the window. Access via a steep climb was a challenge, however, this just added to the remoteness and general atmosphere. We still managed to climb the path everyday to visit the many beauty spots in the area without problems. The owner was unobtrusive but very friendly, and was a great help with our bags at the end of our holiday. He gave us excellent advice and directions including emailing photographs of the pathway down to the cottage and loads of information about local facilities and places to visit. Our two dogs were made welcome and had a blast on the beach every day. The area itself is a plethora of watery inlets to explore and the wildlife is abundant. We found several lovely walks nearby, both along the rugged coastline and across unspoiled countryside. Overall we couldn't have asked for more, can't wait to visit again!
