Reviews

Stayed here for a week with a party of 12 adults, 4 kids and a big dog. The house is superb with more than enough room for the 18 capacity. Rooms are decorated and furnished to fit the early 20th century feel of the property (Built circa 1905) and we found it comfortable although the sofas in the lounge were quite saggy and really needed renovating, also a few chairs in the hall needed the seats renewing. Other than this the property seemed well maintained and the extensive gardens are magnificent (gardener comes twice a week). There is a large lounge equipped with a rather dated flat screen TV (but who comes to the Welsh countryside to watch TV). The dining room has a large 18 seat table which was great for family gatherings at dinner and there was also a more cosy breakfast room next to the kitchen which was always warm with the heat from the always on AGA in the kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge (although we did find this quickly filled with food for 16 of us) and a separate freezer (In a pantry area off the kitchen) plus dish washer and washing machine also in the pantry. There is an always on AGA plus a separate Gas Range cooker. We did have an issue with the Gas Range when we were there when it suddenly went faulty but Caroline the owner was quickly on hand and provided us with an alternative. There was a good selection of cutlery utensils, glasses and cups to cater for 18. The grounds are extensive and well maintained. Our kids (and big kids) loved playing on the large lawn out of the front of the property whilst adults watched on from the large veranda. We found this a superb facility for early evening wind downs after days out discovering the local countryside and coast. The house is perfectly located far enough out in the county and up a long drive to feel secluded and yet only 10 minutes walk into the village of Llanbedr with its lovely Victoria Inn and only 10 minutes drive to the beach or the larger town of Harlech (With its castle). Overall I would be very happy to recommend this property for large groups.

I booked the house with my partner and 10 friends to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a wonderful time in this beautiful house and grounds making happy memories. The house is close to the lovely village and beach and a short walk from 3 pubs. The house is full of character, tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean rooms. Kitchen fully equipped and spacious pantry. Bedrooms spacious, bathrooms lovely with plenty of room to find your own space. The extensive private gardens and grounds are beautifully kept. The house is well maintained and well equipped. We were very well looked after by Chris and Paddy, who with their team prepared, cooked and served a superbly delicious home cooked meal to top restaraunt standard. They dressed the table with flowers and herbs and it could not have been a more perfect setting for the unexpected added surprise of a marriage proposal. This was kindly followed the next morning, with a bottle of fizz and card from Caroline the owner. We laughed, we cried and had so much fun at Plas Gwynfryn. It is a special week I will never forget, in a beautiful setting with loved ones. We all looked forward to the week and it certainly exceeded our expectations. We will return. x

We stayed as a group of friends including 10 adults and 8 children. The house is fantastic and it was a real pleasure to stay in such an impressive home. The house and gardens are huge and very well kept; despite there being 18 of us we never felt on top of one another. The children had a fantastic time exploring the gardens and made the lounge their own den! We also travelled with two dogs who loved the courtyard and gardens. All in all a great house in a fantastic location - less than 5 minutes walk from local pubs, restaurants and shops.

This is a fantastic place as a base to explore this great corner of Wales. Locally there are a couple of pubs, about five minute walk away and a little supermarket in the village, take a torch though as when it's dark here it is dark! It is a great setting for a house. The grounds are lovely, huge lawns and some great rock garden areas to explore, the dogs we had with us were in heaven. The house looks amazing from the outside. It's hard to be too critical of such a grand house but it could be taken to another level, inside it just wasn't as grand as the outside! It was a little tired and would need some money spending on it, soft furnishings, sofas, new carpets, which were getting thread bare on stares. A jacuzzi and a good sound system would be great additions. The dining area also smelt of cigarette smoke but it was certainly large enough for us all. The Wifi never worked for anyone, good in some ways I suppose, all of us love a bit of surfing, it did of course make us more sociable though! In a rental like this all of the rooms really should have ensuites and downstairs another bathroom would be a good idea. The kitchen also needs a bit of attention, it wasn't the sexy new kitchen most of us love. It has two ovens, which were fine but the fridge was poor as was the sink, they don't belong in such a great building. That said it was full of character and charm, we had a superb time and don't let my comments put you off staying here or having your wedding, it was great.

It was perfect for a large group and nice to not have any mobile phone signal for proper peace and quiet! The cottage is quite stunning and we all felt we would like to return.

Fabulous cottage with huge space and amazingly beautiful and enormous lawns with lush green and well maintained grass. The kitchen is well equipped with all the necessary crockery and the space for breakfast as well as the dinning hall is very spacious with fireplace and beautiful views of gardens outside. The bathrooms and shower are absolutely fantastic. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back again - hopefully!.

We booked the property for an extended family get together for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The kitchen was really well stocked making it easy to cater for large family meals, the bedrooms all beautifully decorated and comfortable and the gardens were just amazing for games and wandering around. It did get a little cool in the evenings so we made good use of the wood burning stoves in the main entrance hall and lounge. A lovely place to spend time

We enjoyed our stay at Plas Gwynfryn this is a truly fabulous house set in stunning gardens with amazing views. Very high standard of accommodation with lots of space for our extended family to stay without being on top of each other. The dogs had plenty of room for there beds in the kitchen area without being in the way. Lovely walks close by and Harlech beach which is dog friendly and stretches for miles. Would recommend.

This place was an amazing find for a family celebration. The house is so well equipped and pretty much everything you could need to cater for 10 in the kitchen. The gardens were absolutely spectacular - and we all enjoyed exploring them (there are steep areas that would not be good for anyone wobbly on their feet). However there are also great expanses of beautiful, lawned areas. Minutes to the beautiful beaches. We had an absolutely amazing week and I have no doubt we will be back again very soon. Was such a breath taking property and even better because we could take our dogs too.

Plas Gwynfryn is a large house that accommodated our family perfectly. The dinning room and lounge were amazing and the children loved the freedom to roam the house. The room next to the kitchen served us well for breakfasts and lunch and doubled as a small playroom. The garden is spectacular with extensive lawns and winding paths around trees and shrubbery.

14-17 family members including an infant and a few stayed only an evening stayed at this beautiful well kept manor. We stayed over the Easter holiday and had a truly wonderful time. The kitchen was well equipped to handle large meals for everyone as well as the large dining room table where everyone could eat together. The gardens are beautiful and we spend many sunny days (yes sun!) outside playing cricket and giranemo (giant jenga). In the evenings we would play games in the large family room. Everyone had plenty of space and they were so accommodating to my infant supplying us with highchair and pack and play. The bathrooms are lovely and you are within walking distance to town. This manor and the keeper, Caroline was absolutely amazing. Being able to stay in such a beautiful, loved home with such a large group was wonderful. There are several trails and hikes right off the property and space everywhere. I would absolutely recommend Plas Gwynfryn to anyone looking to have a comfortable, top notch stay in Wales/Gwynedd. And a bonus, Castle Harlech is very close and so worth the trip!!

A fantastic location - both the area and the house and grounds were superb. Surprised this does not already have a 5 star rating as I honestly can't see anything to fault at all.

Rated by Mr Hawes reviewed on 20th June 2014

Fantastic gardens, beautiful and lots of space for the children to play (and the dog!). The house has such character and beauty. It's a joy even to just stand at the sink and do the dishes looking out on the lawn! Very relaxing and a beautiful location. There is a fantastic view from every window. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The interconnecting Family room was of particular use to us. You can keep the children close without disturbing them when you go to bed. Perfect. Loved cooking on an AGA for the first time but for choice there is also a gas cooker, which is useful and also WiFi was very useful. Loved the place. Want to go back!

The house and gardens were stunning and the welcome we had on arrival was brilliant. We as a family booked Plas Gwynfryn for my nieces 30th birthday; the size of the dinning room and lounge meant we could enjoy family dinners and time just relaxing all together. Will definitely be coming back.

We particularly enjoyed the surroundings, the house, the welcome. This was a wonderful overall setting for a family holiday. The local butcher, and the people whom we met were cheerful and helpful, and very proud of their village, the produce and their country. This was a warm and friendly break.

The house was all I could have dreamt. Views of the mountains from the lawns where we flew kites in front of the house. Wonderful kitchen complete with Aga. Wonderful gardens never fully explored. Natural rookeries, orchard, rose garden. Ease of access to wonderful beaches. It was all magnificent and totally comfortable. I am sad it is over, but will enjoy the memories for years to come. I would recommend it 1000% to anyone.

A group of friends who met as students in 1969 - five boys and one girl - plus three wives who've come long since all get together once a year, and this year I found Plas Gwynfryn which looked like a great place for us. And that's exactly how it turned out. Excellent accommodation in an excellent location with access to such a great variety of holiday activities, from castles to countryside, from great little railways to sandy beaches.
