Reviews

When I saw all the five star reviews I expected something really special and in some ways it was. The Byre is basically a lovely cottage. Tastefully converted with quality furniture and well equipped with lots of running hot water. Although superficially clean, when we arrived my husband spent at least half an hour clearing away countless numbers of spiders and cobwebs from the bedroom and bathroom - a bit off putting at the start of a holiday. Also the outside seating area needed a spruce up - the furniture needed cleaning and there was litter (my husband picked up an empty Pringles box that looked as though it had been there for ages). Not very welcoming. The Wi-Fi was very slow - we could just about stream audio with some breakup but nothing more - probably little the owners could do about it - however I think this should be pointed before booking.

A very restful property. The location was excellent for all the attractions of Abergavenny and the surrounding area.

The property was immaculately presented. Hard to imagine how it could have been improved.

A beautifully decorated and well appointed farm stay holiday, close to an area of outstanding natural beauty. We will definitely return.

Rated by Ms Rae reviewed on 15th August 2015

Superbly presented accommodation, it was peaceful and relaxing and in an excellent geographical location. Received a warm welcome from the owner, we were instantly made to feel at ease and at home.

Rated by Mr Preston reviewed on 19th July 2015

The accommodation was superb; very clean and well presented. The property was in a fantastic scenic location for exploring South Wales and the Breacon Beacons and there were plenty of leaflets and ideas supplied by the owners. We were made to feel very welcome on the farm and our child had some great interactions with the animals. We would highly recommend stopping at The Byre!!

Rated by Mr Wilford reviewed on 28th May 2015

This was a fantastically welcoming cottage with some lovely homely touches and great hosts. The heated floor was brilliant and overall the cottage was top specification and felt like a home from home with everything you'd like to have to hand and much more. Would definitely recommend!

Perfect cottage in a lovely location.

Rated by Dr Iqbal reviewed on 2nd December 2014

This property is in a really lovely part of the Welsh countryside. It is only a couple of hours from our home which is also in the Welsh countryside and as we needed a break from all the building work we are having done it was a perfect hideaway and a very relaxing break.

Rated by Mrs George reviewed on 8th September 2014

Very relaxing, a great cottage with all you could possibly need for a holiday. Would recommend. Great for walking & cycling, farm life great and had a warm welcome from the owner and their animals.

Rated by Mrs Kelley reviewed on 29th June 2014

Very good location for touring and walking the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Excellent quality of cottage and helpful owners.

Rated by Mr Mann reviewed on 12th April 2014

The Byre was a great place to spend a few days. It is a really well converted barn with everything you need from a holiday home, lots of space and was perfect for the two of us and our baby.

Rated by Mr Miller reviewed on 10th March 2014

An October holiday in the Brecon Beacons requires somewhere warm to return to at the end of the day. This property is ideal. It is well furnished, spacious and has free wi-fi. The location is very rural; car ownership is essential. Steps leading to the front door from the parking area would make access difficult for disabled visitors.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 6th January 2014

A very good place to stay. Warm and comfortable, with easy access to the Brecon Beacons..

Rated by Mr Cox reviewed on 18th October 2013

Excellent accommodation in an ideal location for visiting larger towns and cities for days out. Outstanding views and excellent walking for those who enjoy that sort of holiday.

Rated by Mr Watson reviewed on 9th June 2013

We had a friendly welcome to a terrific and well equipped cottage. The welcoming cake was a nice touch. It was a good base for seeing the sites and doing a bit of walking for a few days. The representations on the website were accurate. One of the better cottages we have stayed at in the UK on our travels.

Rated by Hasman22 reviewed on 27th May 2013

On arrival we were greeted with cake, flowers and milk which were really appreciated. We loved the cottage and loved getting out and about as it had been our first time in Abergavenny. The owner was a lovely lady and we were invited to join their family at their fireworks display. A delightful holiday except too short. Would not hesitate in recommending The Byre.

Rated by Mrs Rothwell reviewed on 9th November 2012

Quiet, chill out place, just what we wanted.

The property is in a very beautiful setting. The owners were wonderful and the area was great, it was very easy to find our way about. Just perfect!

Rated by Mr Mace reviewed on 24th July 2012

Excellent cottage , very well stocked for 2 people. Very comfy and warm! Would be more tricky for 2 couples as bathroom,, loo an en suite to main bedroom. family very welcoming. Even the peacock displayed his tail fan for us twice in the week.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 27th June 2012

Very peaceful place to stay. Owners have really thought out the layout and what was on offer. On hand when needed too. Welcome pack very welcome!

Rated by Miss Caudwell reviewed on 9th April 2012

The way the cottage was decorated and furnished was very modern, fresh and clean. The cottage owners were very friendly and welcoming and let us explore the farm with our two year old, which she loved! The perfect weekend, thank you.

Rated by Ms Thacker reviewed on 4th March 2012

Can not recommend this property highly enough - Great quality of fixtures and fittings and the best equipped kitchen, a couple of amateur cooks could ever wish for. Being set on the farm with Skirrd Mountain in the background made a great base for walking and exploring the best the Brecons have to offer.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 1st March 2012

The standard & quality of the property were fantastic and above our expectations. Would recommend and without hesitation and stay again if in the area.

Rated by Mrs Lowe reviewed on 5th January 2012

We had a very friendly welcome to a beautifully designed and thoroughly equipped cottage (at a very reasonable price too!), and it proved to be a great base for a week in this gorgeous part of Wales. We enjoyed trips out to nearby abergavenny, Blaenavon, through Golden Valley and on to Talgarth, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon ... but also loved relaxed evenings tucked up in the cottage. As an extra bonus the tiny village has an unpretentious Michelin-starred restaurant, The Walnut Tree, which serves extremely tasty, locally-sourced food. Any downsides? None for us but don't expect a local shop, and watch out for the peacocks! Only hesitation in our recommendation is that we don't want to make this so popular that we can't re-book!

Rated by Chris and Gail reviewed on 2nd December 2011

Thy Byre is a really lovely cottage in a beautiful location near Abergavenny. The owners were very friendly, showed us round and even prepared a gateaux as a 'Welcome Present'!! The cottage inside is nicely decorated, spacy and stylish. As a bonus for gourmets; it is not far from the Michelin Star Restaurant Walnut Tree! We would like to say thank you to the owners; our family had a lovely stay at The Byre and we would definitely recommend it to our friends and family when they come to visit us again!

Rated by Ms Malinge reviewed on 8th November 2011

Comfortable, quiet, lovely and extremely well-equipped cottage. A really helpful owner. Great situation for exploring the area with The Walnut Tree Inn being a nearby bonus. Very reasonably priced let too. Hope to go back one day.

Rated by Mr Lawther reviewed on 24th October 2011

The property was superb and the owners were very friendly and made us very welcome.

Rated by Mrs Parry reviewed on 11th September 2011

Great hosts and a good base from which to tour South Wales. We enjoyed getting out and about but also relaxing at times in and around the property.

Rated by Mr & Mrs Arkley reviewed on 18th July 2011

The lovely accommodation, location, Welsh cakes, dogs, peacocks etc etc. Everything about this accommodation was good quality and it felt like the owners had gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. It is the nicest place we have stayed at.

Rated by Mrs Willcocks reviewed on 3rd June 2011

Our unseasonably warm and sunny week in the Black Mountains was more than equalled by the warm and generous welcome we received at this newly opened property. The cottage itself is well furnished and equipped, and well located for days out by car along the Heads of the Valleys, Black Mountains, and the borderlands along the Wye Valley. The walk up Skirrid Fawr is easily achieved directly from the cottage. There are a couple of very nice restaurants within a short drive from the cottage; but we found we had to go a bit further to find a pub. All this at a very reasonable price - highly recommended!

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 5th May 2011

Owner provided welcome supplies on arrival - cake, milk, bread etc - which were lovely. The location of the property is ideal for a variety of excellent days out and provides a warm and comfortable base to which to return. It is also very peaceful despite being a working farm.

Rated by Mr Read-Leah reviewed on 21st March 2011

We liked everything about The Byre. It was so clean and airy, everything was first class.
