Reviews

We booked the cottage as our base for walking the Teesdale Way and it was just perfect - all the facilities we could ask for were provided and the owner (Doreen) was really helpful and at the same time unobtrusive leading to a great few days in a lovely part of the world.

Despite storm Dennis doing its best to get in through this barn conversion window frames, we found this cottage charming and spacious for us four. The toddlers loved racing around the round coffee table and the big kitchen window gave good light for colouring /rainy day play on the table. The beds were comfy and the house constantly warm. There is a utility room for tumble dryer not shown in advert. Courtyard self contained if u have a dog. Doreen was a great attentive host but could do to knock louder! ....When at the door in the pouring rain. Thanks for the eggs and choc biscuits x the children's bedroom feels like a castle with the window arrow slits!!

Had a great time and also great to be able to let Scruff dog out knowing the area was gated and she could not get out. Spent her time looking out gate at the cows!

Westfield Cottage is a very good property, roomy and welcoming. We had 6 adults here and accommodation was more than sufficient.

The charming and most helpful owners helped us to have a perfect stay at extremely short notice. The good sized cottage accommodation allowed us all to enjoy being together as a family. It made our holiday.

Beautiful well maintained cottage in a lovely part of the country. A lovely and warm place to stay in the winter. The host was pleasant, welcoming and helpful. Would stay there again.

Rated by Mr Davies reviewed on 4th January 2015

Great location for exploring - lots to see and do within about one and a half hour drive in any direction. Lots of walks around the area without having to travel anywhere. White Scar Caves highly recommenced as is Wensleydale cheese factory /gift shop.

3 bedroom cottage. Easy access to the Lake District and many villages, reservoirs and walks about the place. The owner we saw a couple of times, and was always very helpful. However she also left us alone to enjoy our holiday.

As I also booked Garden Cottage next door, both were well above our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there for our special celebrations in the village of Mickleton just less than a mile down the road. The owner was delightful!

I would like to say how much we enjoyed our first Sykes holiday cottage - Westfield Cottage at Mickleton. The cottage was spotless, well equipped and in a beautiful area. Well placed for walks along the disused railway line just down the lane; nice flat walking for old bones like ours. Will definitely book this cottage again.

A wonderful location any we were welcomed on arrival and bid farewell on departure. We would certainly like to return.

Very nice cottage in a beautiful setting. Very nice landlady.

Rated by Mr Pollet reviewed on 20th April 2014

Great Location. Cottage was immaculate and well presented. We were 4 adults and a 3 year old child. We only had a weekend at the cottage, but it had everything we required even if we had stayed much longer. We'd love to return again one day. The owner was welcoming and available to us should we have needed anything. It really felt like a home from home.

A lovely, comfortable and warm cottage in a superb location. A very hospitable owner who welcomed us in person. Lovely comfortable beds, a kitchen table with room enough for six people to sit comfortably around for extended family meals and an absolutely superb level of cleanliness throughout the property. We loved it, and are already planning to visit the cottage again next autumn!

The cottage and location were beautiful. Ideally suited for getting out and about and within easy drive of main tourist attractions.

Rated by Dr Atherton reviewed on 12th February 2013

We took our three kids to this cottage for half-term. It was so cosy and had great accommodation. We walked up and down the Tees Valley way and railway, doing most of the Cleveland Way between Cauldron Snout and Barnard Castle. It was great to walk from the door. High and Low Force are great as is the Bowes Museum with its silver mechanical swan. The local pubs (Rose in in Mickleton and Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk) were wonderful. What a wonderful off the track spot. The hosts are very kind. We loved how quiet it was. We waited for clear nights for the amazing stars which was our only disappointment.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 5th December 2012

Absolutely fab cottage, warm and cosy with plenty of space for the five of us. Great views from the track and very quiet. Perfect spot for walking. Lovely local pubs. Helpful hosts too. The stars would have been amazing if the clouds had behaved!

Beautiful area; great walking from the property; just the right amount of access to the owner for queries.

Rated by Mrs Rendle reviewed on 20th October 2012

My husband & I had a very enjoyable week at this cottage. It was very clean & the owner was very welcoming and gave us some lovely fresh eggs. The only downside was that the cottage was quite dark mainly due to the huge trees outside, apart from that it made a great base to explore this lovely part of the country.

Rated by LucindaStaffs reviewed on 20th July 2012

Loved the location. Ideal for walks and close to towns and places to eat. Dog loved it too as he never got walked as much as when we were here. Hope to go back here again

Rated by Mr Lumley reviewed on 16th August 2011

The cottage was comfortable and clean and tidy. The owners were welcoming and friendly. There was ample information provided by way of leaflets as to local tourist information and it is a lovely part of the country with so much to do we weren't able to do it all! The owners very kindly brought round a 1/2 dozen fresh eggs which were lovely and my husband got a bit of fishing in.

Rated by Mrs Scott reviewed on 7th August 2011

The enclosed garden area was excellent for pets and children. Westfield Cottage is in a very peaceful location with no interference from the owners, unless we wanted help.

Rated by Mrs Lee reviewed on 28th February 2011

Owner very friendly but not intrusive. Cottage spot on, quite basic but everything we needed and clean and comfortable. Fishing, walks and village all without needing to get in the car. Unfortunately nearest dog friendly pub that did food had closed recently, other pub very friendly. Beautiful area, would definitely like to return.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 13th September 2010

The cottage was just right for us. Walks from property and information about the area excellent. Access to Middleton, which was great as the local village is an enjoyable walk. Fishing greatly enjoyed.

Rated by Mrs Robinson reviewed on 2nd August 2010

Piece and quiet, not a great mobile phone network. Easy to relax and warmer than when I came back up North! The people around town were all friendly which was nice.

The location was wonderful - away from the road and with plenty of walks immediately accessible in a beautiful scenic area. We were pleased to be able to take our dog with us too. Nice stone built cottage, and the owner was very friendly.

This was our second visit and the welcome we recieved was on both visits fantastic. We were made to feel at home straight away by the owners. The house was for us ideal lovely warm and cosy when we stayed in the Spring and so attractive in Summer. The location is perfect for walking or driving the many scenic routes on the doorstep. Plenty of places to eat from country pubs to restaurants and if the weather is bad several places of interest nearby to visit. The owners were great always willing to help but not intrusive. The best part of the stay for my wife was when Doreen during a busy lambing period somehow found the time to let her bottle feed a lamb, many thanks Doreen you made her day.Though we have already been twice we will hopefuly be returning this year.

The cottage was immaculate and very comfortable. Our host met us and made us feel very welcome. She even found the time in a busy lambing period to let my wife bottlefeed and hold the new born lambs. This was the best holiday we have had in this area. Highly recommended

We were really impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of Westfield Cottage. The effort made by the owner was obvious. We even had a lit Christmas tree in the lounge to complement the season. We shall certainly consider going back - hopefully in spring/summer to take advantage of the beautiful countryside.
