Location Details

Nestled in a peaceful valley of the Pennine Hills is the charming village of Lothersdale, just five miles from the market town of Skipton. At one time, this lovely little town was home to the famous writer, Charlotte Bronte, who went on to base Gateshead Hall from her novel ‘Jane Eyre' on Stone Gappe House where she was governess. Many of the visitors today come to the village for its excellent walking routes as it is situated along the Pennine Way - on the stretch from Cowling to Gargrave. The village pub is well worth visiting and serves food whilst the nearby town of Skipton provides an excellent range of amenities. Just a short drive away is the town of Haworth, the Bronte's home and the famous Worth Valley Steam Railway.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Booked this property for a family get-together. So glad we did. This place is fantastic. Lovely accommodation, full of character and charm. The location can not be beaten - not enough superlatives to describe the views that wrap around this cottage. Loved having the neighbouring cows and being able to just open the front door and let our two dogs run out, with brilliant walks on the doorstep. The owners are really lovely - supplying us with fresh cake and fresh milk along with logs and kindling for the powerful wood burner in the living room. We loved staying here - really comfortable accommodation and homely too. Will definitely be staying here again - and the sooner the better.

The location of this farm house is about two miles from Skelton, very easy to find and even easier to get into Skipton for amenities such as Supermarkets, Chinese, Indian and Chip Shop. Centrally located for easy visits to Scar Caves, Ingelton Walks, York, Forbidden Corner, Leeds, and a number of other tourist attractions. Cottage is beautiful, five bedrooms, three toilets, large kitchen , two sitting rooms and wonderful views all around hosts Julie and James Gooch are pleasant down to earth persons and very approachable. If you are really looking for a nice cozy, comfortable, affordable holiday you will not go wrong by visiting Street Head Farm, do not hesitate to contact myself for further information about this property.

Rated by Ms howard reviewed on 17th February 2016

This wasn't our first stay at Street Head Farm cottage and it hopefully won't be our last. The owners are friendly and welcoming and we were greeted with homemade fruit loaf and homemade marmalade both of which were superb as well as milk, teabags etc. The cottage is charming with wonderful views and everything you need is provided including a laundry room, a cosy lounge with a log burning stove and large family kitchen / dining room. There is also a further small lounge with its own tv. The cottage is tastefully decorated with a very comfortable, homely feel. It is ideal for dogs and there are many walks available from the doorstep. It really does offer a perfect "get away from it all" being quite isolated and quiet although the busy town of Skipton is only 10 minutes away by car, providing everything you could need. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to return!

We liked the homeliness and the size of the well equipped kitchen and the lounge. The quality of decor was perfect for the farmhouse. We were made very welcome by the owners and enjoyed the home-made cake. If the children were younger we would have taken them up on the offer to watch milking time!

Loved the situation of the house, out on its own with such great outlook. Thank you, too, for such efficient and friendly staff and booking systems. We will be back to Sykes next time!

The location was rural and picturesque. The house instantly felt like home and was beautifully equipped. It was warm and very comfortable, easy to keep clean and tidy. The welcome received from the owners was very hospitable, friendly and most helpful. They also offered a wonderful tour of the dairy farm and showed the children the milking of his cows. Really felt like a treat to stay there. Many thanks for the fresh milk, homemade cake and jam left for our arrival.

Rated by Mrs McGee reviewed on 1st November 2011

The views were amazing and the location was great, in the country but within a few miles of Skipton. Privacy, the owners were nearby but not intrusive. The cottage was nicely furnished with lovely bedrooms and had a downstairs en suite bedroom.

Rated by Ms Ainsworth reviewed on 13th August 2011

Have stayed in several cottages through Sykes; this was by far the best! Lovely welcome. Excellent accommodation. Views from farmhouse exceeded all our hopes. Would go again!

Rated by Mrs Passmore reviewed on 15th November 2010

This was the third or fourth cottage booked through Sykes and came up to the previous high standards. Very good sleeping arrangements and well laid out living spaces. Only slight grumble was the lack of a "proper" garden for the kids to run riot in. Maybe a climbing frame or equivalent in one of the nearby spaces would work really well. Cottage is very well located for walks, towns for provisions, sightseeing etc. Almost too much to do in week - we'll have to go back again!

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 23rd September 2010

Position and views are marvellous. Good pubs within walking distance. Garden good as is sitting area.

Rated by Mr Wade reviewed on 18th September 2010

The cottage was fantastic and the welcome we received on arrival was absolutely spot on - informative but not intrusive. Every comfort was provided, and the welcoming home made cake was delicious! I visit Yorkshire two or three times a year and sharing my enjoyment of the area with close friends was made all the more enjoyable by our excellent accomodation. After many years of camping together, we now rest our older bones in greater comfort and Streethead Farm provided the perfect opportunity. Thank you!

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 13th September 2010
