Bathroom with bath, hand-held shower, basin and WC. Ground floor shower room with shower, basin and WC. Kitchen with dining area. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. A quality sympathetic conversion of an old stone farm building, resulting in an individual holiday home of great character and comfort. With an exceptionally high standard of furnishing and equipment, this cottage nestles high on the moors in a quiet National Park village above Newtondale where the steam trains whistle below. In the 19th century, the property housed a horse driven threshing machine and more recently it became a dairy and features a unique stone fireplace, along with massive timber beams, which may have come from oaks in Newtondale or from ships broken up at Whitby. Ecologically aware, Dairy House offers spacious accommodation over two floors with three bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room, and provides a light and airy feel, whilst it also feels cosy in winter. Footpaths nearby wander through wild flower pastures, beautiful woodlands and on to the moors. Cyclists can enjoy gentle meanders or challenging banks and a few miles away, Dalby Forest offers mountain biking trails for all levels. Enjoy a steam railway ride, which takes you up the valley and across the moors to the coast - one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain. A delightful cottage offering peace and tranquillity.

The unspoiled village of Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park and is a typical English village, with old stone cottages and farms clustered around the village green and duck pond. The area has an abundance of wildlife and the countryside is varied and offers wonderful walking and touring opportunities. Amongst the many attractions in the area are the majestic abbeys of Byland and Rievaulx, the town of York and the magnificent Castle Howard. The nearby historic market town of Pickering is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, England's longest steam railway, and has a variety of shops, art galleries and eateries. With its many activities and attractions, this is a fabulous area for a family holiday.

Reviews

Having spent many weeks in lockdown it was wonderful to have a weeks holiday in the the North York Moors. Dairy House is a very comfortable cottage set in a lovely little village. All preparations had been made to reassure us that the accommodation was free from and would remain safe from Covid. Unfortunately the village pub was not able to offer food, but with Pickering ten minutes down the road there was a choice of several establishments offering takeaway meals. The cottage is well equipped if you are happy to self cater. We know the area very well but still found new places to visit and a warm welcome was assured where ever we went. The only disappointment was that the railway was not due to start running again until 1st August.

Dairy House is a very comfortable cottage, in an ideal location for lots of days out. Our grandchildren particularly enjoyed the steam train to Whitby, as we did too. We have made several visits to this lovely part of Yorkshire and it never lets us down.

We all absolutely loved the Dairy house. A real home from home and in an excellent location. We plan to go back when we can. It was easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit and we loved the quiet of the evenings. An excellent cottage in an excellent location.

This is a delightful cottage, a real 'home from home' especially with the mixed Yorkshire weather. It is cosy and welcoming and would suit a larger group as well as just a couple & their dog as we were. The village pub is just 50 yards away, friendly & serving good beer & local, home cooked food. Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is ideally placed 4 miles from Pickering which offers a variety of small, local food shops & supermarkets. It also has take-away food outlets. The Coast at Whitby is a mere 20 miles drive away all surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors.

An interesting, comfortable property in the centre of great walking area. Lovely cosy place to spend a day in, but also a quick easy drive to Pickering and onwards. The owner has given a lot of thought and attention to making the cottage work for guests. We enjoyed the log burner which was easy to get going. The utility area was great for bikes and muddy boots, and the village is very scenic for little strolls.

Lovely quiet location with comfortable rooms and a good friendly pub close by. The walking and scenery was spectacular. Loved the steam railway with the old fashioned stations. York was a good day out there was so much history to see and Whitby was fun especially if you like fish n chips. The local ales were all tasted most more than once. What a great holiday I will be back.

The cottage is spacious and well appointed. It is in a peaceful location adjoining a farm. The village is a few miles from a town so a car is essential. A good venue for walking and for touring by car.

The Dairy Cottage had a cosy, homely feel to it and is in such a lovely setting. The children enjoyed feeding the ducks on the green and loved the play area just down the road. The grown ups very much appreciated the bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival and taking in the beautiful scenery.
