The village of Embleton can be found on Northumberland's Heritage Coastline, close to the magnificent ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle. Embleton has a fascinating history, which stretches back to pre-medieval times. During the Wars of the Roses, the village suffered frequent invasion attempts by the Scots, and much later, in the 19th century, it was famous for its whinstone quarry. To this day a curving whinstone ridge provides shelter from the east winds. The history of the parish is the focus of the new Heritage Trails Project, which has led to several walks being designed in and around Embleton. The village has several excellent pubs and a fine Norman church. As well as the Dunstanburgh ruin, there are many other local attractions to entice visitors. These include the gardens at Howick Hall and Alnwick Castle and Garden. Among the excellent golf courses in the vicinity is the Dunstanburgh Links Course.
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
It can be daunting going on holiday with three small children but Cra-na-ge made it a pleasure. We wanted for nothing, the kitchen is far better equipped than my own! The cottage has a lovely feel and is clean without being fussy, (if you have children you know what I mean). A large garden and a brilliant park nearby, lots to keep 3 boys happy. The beach is a half hour walk with toddlers and fairly easy to navigate with a pushchair. Castles galore!!! Fantastic places to visit all close by. We had a nice surprise the other day, two parcels arrived addressed to the two older boys from Harry Hedgehog, Craig is very thoughtful, it's the little things that make all the difference. We can't wait to return and pick up where we left off, lots more to see and do. We loved it!!
A cosy and well equipped cottage where we were met by the owner who explained all that we needed to know about the property in a friendly and welcoming manner. The location just suited us as we have a young child who loves time on the beach as well as visiting historic sites.
The cottage was homely and very well stocked. I have 3 small boys and they enjoyed hunting around for things in the cupboards and found plenty to do whilst we were in the cottage. Bored children are not happy, my children were entertained!
The location was ideal with plenty of new activities and amazing countryside. We felt the property deserved a higher grading than two stars.
Friendly and helpful owner. Kitchen was fully equipped and sitting room was very comfortable. Area provided lots to do particularly for my grandchildren.
Clean, spacious accommodation. Very pleasant and welcoming owner. Embleton was a fantastic location for our family holiday..
The owner met us on arrival and was very welcoming. We found the house well stocked, spacious and very clean and it was easy for us to feel at home straight away. The location is very quiet and the garden is excellent. Embleton and the beach are lovely and easily reached - we happily let our 10 year old go off to buy milk from the local shop. Great accommodation in a lovely part of Northumberland.
The house was spacious and well equipped the gardens were great for children, the nearby beach was terrific and there are plenty of places to visit. The owner could not have been more helpful.
Owner was very friendly and helpful. The beds and sofas were very comfortable.
Cosy & comfortable cottage in a beautiful area with a fantastic beach and superb golf course!
We thoroughly enjoyed the stay, the garden was well used and enjoyed on an evening. Great area to go on holiday - lovely countryside, good walks etc. I would recommend this area and house to anyone.
Enjoyed the accommodation and the area which had good walks and fantastic beaches. Enjoyed reading and having a gin and tonic or a beer in the garden in the evening. It is a great location.
Nice location, pleasant walk to beach. Will definitely go back to property. Nice welcome from owner.
A brilliant cottage, fantastically well equipped! We were met by the owner, who gave us lots of information about the local area and places to visit.
A great welcome from the property owner. Super accommodation for 6 - plenty of space and good value. A very well equipped kitchen - the best I've seen yet! There was lots to do locally and the beach was on the doorstep!
Excellent location for beaches and castles of Northumberland. Embleton beach was unspoilt with stunning views. A brisk 20minute walk from the cottage although we tended to drive as there was always ample parking and saved those little legs after a hard days play on the beach. The owner spared no effort in making us feel welcome, the cottage was well presented and equipped. The kids enjoyed the hedgehog hunt in the garden! Would highly recommend.
Very good for touring the area. Excellent range of kitchen equipment.
Firstly, thjis is not a "beach cottage'! It is a full sized house, very well appointed and equipped for self catering. The neighbourhood is particularly quiet, a point noted by our visitors. We were met by the owner at the appointed time, and given a full review of all the facilities and equipment and contacts in case of problems. (There were none ). He also had a stock of brochures on points of interest in the area. The location is in Embleton village, which has a good small store, petrol station and four pubs, which serve good meals. The house is about 20 minutes walk from the beach and golf course. The beaches are wide, clean and make for good walking and children's playgrounds. There are other small and interesting villages within walking distance, and larger towns with good shopping within a twenty mile radius. Alnwick, the county town is particularly worth a visit.
Everything very good quality. The bedrooms, lounge, furnishings and decor scored very good! Very well equipped kitchen. Great shower. Large garden. Good restaurants and beach within easy walking distance. Many places of interest in area.
Lovely village close to beautiful beach, good clean comfortable accomodation. Excellent value for money.
The very warm welcome from the owner of the house. Ideal situation for visiting local attractions. Lovely beach and pubs.
The service from both Sykes, and the owner were v.good.Directions spot on.Key holder helpful. House quirky at first sighting, but good parking in quiet cul-de-sac,garden good for kids(secure),layout of house a bit odd,but clean and comfy.Only problem with house was the clutter,we moved unnecessary bits and pieces into dining room, for the duration of stay. The kitchen draws were full of utensils...too many...i.e. 5 potato mashers!! plus numerous odds & sods surplus to requirements.Just needed a good throw out of STUFF! Bearing in mind we are farmers, used to mess and lots of STUFF!! The TV didn't work after day 2, but had decent weather,so not too worried.Easy 10 mins. cycle or drive/pleasant walk to spectacular beach. We took bikes and cycled along beach, adults could enjoy walk/cycle to Newton(?right name?)Handy car park 500m from sea.Lovley dune path to Dunstanburgh Castle,my girls 4&6 loved the holiday Three good pubs to eat in,v.posh foodie restraunt The Sportsman, better enjoyed by adults, but happy to accom. our well behaved kids. Good overall base for our decent priced family hol.
Embleton itself is a lovely place, a mile or so from glorious beaches which the children in our group thoroughly enjoyed. The cottage was extemely well equipped and it was obvious that the owner had taken a lot of trouble to respond to the views of guests. The only problem really is that the cottage is on a housing estate, so it is bit strange for a holiday. And we had some problems with 2 local very young children, who wandered into the garden, took away toys on one occasion and wanted us to play with them. They were only aged about 2 and 4 so it was of concern tha thy appeared to be neglected. We did leave a note for the owner about it.
Our 2 1/2 year old really enjoyed the garden.
Good location, reasonably priced, lots to see and do.
The cottage was very well located for visiting the beach and other local places of interest. The family had a great time.
We felt very comfortable - everything was provided for our comfort. I especially liked the cleanliness.
Good location. Cosy cottage, good facilities.
Well stocked property in every respect (4 TV's!) Good sized garden. Nice quiet village. Very good value for money.
The variety of Northumberland scenery and the central situation of the property. Every day was different.
Everything needed and more was in the property. Very clean lovely garden. Nice quite area.
Everything about our holiday cottage was good we felt very comfortable. We would book this cottage again if we were visiting Embleton. The beach is very nice as are all the beaches in this area.
Excellent location. Cottage was very well equipped and owner had gone to a lot of trouble to provide good facilities. Plenty of rainy day activities for both adults and children. Cottage in quiet cul-de-sac, no traffic, ideal for young children. Embleton beach nearby is fantastic and there are good pubs, castles, and eateries nearby. Weather good and some spectacular coastline with more than enough to do in a week. Wish we could have stayed longer. Ideal place for young children, walkers and dog owners.
The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Well located. Lots to do in the surrounding area though we spent most days at the beach.
Beautiful beach-ideal for children. Plenty of local walks.Dunstanburgh Castle is within walking distance
Very cosy cottage, warm, very quiet during the day and night. Very close to the beach.
Near fantastic beaches and coastal walks.
Very quiet cul-de-sac, no traffic, a good base from which to explore the area, friendly neighbours. Very well equipped property. Felt very much at home.
This property was ideal for our family holiday. The cottage, the location, everything was just great. We would recommend this to any family for an ideal base for Northumberland for both the coast and most of the attractions. Thanks for a great holiday.
A fantastic area, with clean beaches and lots to do. It was a family friendly house in a quiet area.
Fantastic location for stunning beaches. A most relaxing holiday in most comfortable home.
Garden enclosed - good for young children. Good family accommodation.
A great location for a cosy winter breakProbably just as good in the summer
We all loved the tranquility of Embleton beach. The cottage was very well located for us to be able to tour the local countryside - we thought Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden were fantastic. The facilities in the cottage for our children (games, videos, TV) were excellent.
A very comfortable house from which to explore the surrounding countryside and coast.
Embleton has a lovely sandy beach.
Ideal location for walkers, the beaches are beautiful and always some where to go. If you are into golf there are plenty of golf courses.
Stunningly beautiful area with plenty to do with the kids
