Reviews

We had the most wonderful time here. The area is beautiful and my children loved the freedom of running through the fields! We loved the peace and quiet of the countryside and anything you could need is available only ten minutes away at catterick garrison (supermarkets, shops, food etc) The cottage was spotless and cosy, very comfortable and a perfect place to escape to. We visited Richmond, leyburn, forbidden corners and the Wensleydale creamery and had the most wonderful week. We can’t wait to return here and spend some more time here. The views are just outstanding and we felt like we were in a home from home. Thank you to Jayne who was a perfect host and really made us feel welcome

We really enjoyed our holiday at Sunnyside Cottage. The owner is lovely and very welcoming. The large comfortable farmhouse is ideal for a peaceful holiday and is an ideal base for walking or to visit the many attractions and lovely towns in the area. We had a lovely holiday and I would definitely recommend Sunnyside Cottage.

The owner is absolutely wonderful, a joy to meet! The setting is glorious and the garden brilliant, safe for children. I would certainly return another time.

This is a lovely big old farmhouse which is in a very quiet and peaceful area. The owners were very nice and helpful and were only a phone call away if you had any problems. There was lots of space for everyone to move around without being on top of each other. The garden is a lovely grassed area fenced off from the main yard so is great for children. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return at some point in the future.

What a great place to stay. Perfectly remote but easy to get to with a fantastic host. The owner greeted us just after arrival and was very helpful. The views were breathtaking and we could come and go as we pleased without having to worry about making too much noise. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

We enjoyed the relaxing and comfortable Cottage. It was in a convenient spot for visiting Richmond, Leyburn, Reeth and a nostalgic visit to Langthwaite, our first visit to the Dales 38 years ago. We would definitely stay there again.

Very relaxed homely, comfortable environment which provided an excellent base for us all. We had plenty space for us, our three growing grandchildren & their parents. The grassed, enclosed outdoor garden was also ideal. The location too was very convenient for lots of popular local attractions & scenic walks. Overall a very enjoyable holiday was spent here.

We were 5 'girl'friends (all 50 something) from Holland, sharing this beautiful cottage for autumn break 2014. We needed 5 separate beds, which this cottage has. All in beautiful bedrooms, all with a view. There are two living rooms, but we did not set foot in them: we were either outside (we were very lucky with the weather), roaming the Dales or hanging in the cosy kitchen/dining area. We loved the atmosphere, the space around us, all the little details in which the caring of the owner was visible and the location. Close to so many beautiful hiking routes, close to Reeth that we love for years, and very close to the Bolton Arms in Downholme that we love now too, for its hospitality and great food. There is a huge utility room that was very handy for all our stuff. The bedrooms have great beds. The bathrooms are nice and well equiped. When we arrived a bottle of wine was waiting for us, and after a few days the owner, such a nice lady, came to check on us. For us city girls it was great fun to spend time on this spot, for which we had to open 3 gates to get trough with our car, waving away the Swaledale tubs (sheep). We felt so at home and at peace and we were really sad to leave. The cottage has no wifi (which we did not miss anyway).

We were 5 friends (all girls over 50, Dutch) sharing this fabulous cottage together. We needed 5 separate beds and we are in love with Swaledale. Everything was above expectations. We hope to come back here as soon as possible, we were sad to leave.

We were made to feel very welcome by the owner. The house was comfortable and well-equipped with many little extra touches - magazines, toys, all types of kitchen equipment etc - so that we really felt at home. The location was amazing - perhaps the most peaceful place I have ever stayed but on a working farm so it still felt part of the real world. A perfect place for a break for the extended family.

Rated by Mrs Hindmarch reviewed on 23rd September 2014

Fantastic holiday location for the family - we will definitely be back next year! The house was the perfect size for all 6 of us, and it was so peaceful and quiet. The scenery was amazing and it was nice being surrounded by the animals and fields. Our 9 year old and 6 year old boys loved playing football and cricket in the garden and enjoyed seeing all the animals every day. We all can't wait to come back.

Really enjoyed our time away at Sunnyside. The owner is so nice and welcoming. In a remote location but ideal for a peaceful weekend and for 6 ladies to get away. The house is very cosy and the views from the garden are stunning. Will definitely recommend and re visit.

The size of the Cottage, coupled with the surrounding space was excellent - perfect for a large family with kids who want to run around. The location is also fantastic - a great base to explore much of the area without straying too far from home. The owner was available without being intrusive, and was extremely helpful, welcoming and accommodating. The kids are already asking when we can go back!

Rated by Mr Child reviewed on 25th August 2014

The cottage was very spacious with plenty of room for 6 adults and a child to spread out. The quiet location and beautiful countryside make for a restful and relaxing holiday. The property is an old farm house which has been thoughtfully restored, retaining the character of the building, whilst giving it all modern amenities. The owner was very welcoming and friendly, providing very useful information on the local area. I would certainly stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Rated by Mr Jay reviewed on 30th June 2014

A large, spacious and private property with a very well equipped kitchen. Children could play safely in a large secure garden and there were fantastic views from the farm. Owner was particularly friendly and extremely helpful regarding information on local shops etc. Went home thoroughly relaxed and with every intention of returning.

Plenty of room to have Family BBQ and garden was safe haven for children to play in. Plenty of information in cottage but Owner was excellent source for best places to walk, visit, shop, eat etc. Wonderful holiday on all fronts.

The size of the property was brilliant, there was 5 of us in the party and it gave us enough space not too be on top of each other. The cottage was in the perfect situation to get to various attractions without having to travel too far. The owners were lovely and very helpful, would definitely stay again.

The location, garden and size of property was ideal for my family break. My granddaughter could play in safety. The area is well located for travelling to other towns. Pub in Downholme was excellent for evening meals. The owners were very pleasant, and the property was nice and clean when we arrived. The experience was very special.

Rated by Mrs Sadler reviewed on 3rd September 2013

A large farmhouse on a working farm offering plenty of room for a family holiday. A little remote - no pubs within easy walking distance so a car is definitely needed. Some lovely villages nearby with Leyburn close for everyday shopping with a good market. The owner was very welcoming and quick to respond to any requests or queries. The house was very cold when we arrived and took a few days to really warm up, but then it was snowy outside and it made the log fire all the more welcome.

This was an excellent place to stay, lots of places to eat and good food to buy. Lots of lovely places to visit. really enjoyed Bolton castle and trip on train as well as quiet days only gazing out at the moors. The army, god bless them for keeping us safe, were never a problem. They keep this area like it was 30 years ago, no development or houses built in the countryside. The house was warm, the beds comfortable, pub at Downholm had great food and was very busy, a must as was the Italian restaurant in Richmond. I loved the view of Walburn Hall. Most memorable, hope to return.

Lovely situation, cottage was warm and everything was up to standard expected. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. We loved every minute of our time there. Visited lots of places we wanted to see and ate lots of delicious ice cream.

A peaceful location with only the sheep and cattle for company. Very comfortable accommodation with cosy coal fires. Spacious farmhouse with a ground floor toilet and shower for the less agile visitor. The owner made us very welcome and provided extras for the unseasonal weather.

Sunnyside cottage was an ideal venue for our three generation family holiday, it really did appeal to all ages. The cottage was fantastic, well equiped and furnished with everything you could possibly need. It is well located for many days out or was homely enough to just stay in and relax. The owners of the cottage live near by and are very welcoming and helpful. I could not find any faults with the accomodation and cant wait to return. Thank you for a fantastic week.

The cottage and location were excellent. We were away with two young children and a baby and the facilities were excellent. We were made very welcome by the owners of the cottage who lived near by.

Great location. Very friendly and welcoming owners who took a lot of trouble to ensure that everything was aright and provided the little extras which made the holiday special.

This is a very child friendly property-very safe large fenced area (grass) for play. Very friendly/helpful owner. Have booked same property for 2012!

Rated by Mrs Russell reviewed on 19th September 2011

It was obvious the owner took great care of, and pride in the property. The owner took time to ensure we had settled-in and that there was nothing more we needed. The location was remote enough to be nice and quiet, but not too far from 'essentials'. The location also gave easy and quick access to many beautiful locations in the Yorkshire Dales. I would highly recommend this to others!

Rated by Mr Jones reviewed on 23rd August 2011

We have just come back from a wonderful week. The owners were so welcoming - and are on hand about a 5 minute drive away if we needed anything. The cottage is the old farmhouse from the (still working) farm: perfect setting with beautiful views. Huge secure garden great for football and cricket. Short drive from a range of beautiful walks, castles, teashops and waterfalls. We particularly loved Middleham and Askrigg. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable with everything we needed. Highly recommended.
