From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
We spent Christmas 2016 at Sycamore Cottage, Near Hawes. The cottage is delightful with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is extremely well equipped so is the bathroom with lots of hot water and central heating which is on all the time for your comfort. Alison and Andrew left us a tea tray on arrival which was gratefully received. There is a lot of places to visit leaflets and books on the area. There are great views from the windows and a nice secure garden to the side. The cottage is approx 6 miles from Hawes and 1 mile to the local pub which is very handy. We had a great time exploring the area including a trip to the lakes. Fully recommend the cottage it is a gem!
A wonderful cosy cottage, a real home from home. It was lovely to return to at the end of the day. The owners were really kind and helpful. The cottage had everything you could possibly need and more.
Comfortable and cosy cottage in a magnificent setting. Great to come back to after a day's walking, a real home from home. Lovely views from lounge and kitchen windows. Kind and generous owners.
We have stayed in many cottages through out the UK but this is one of the best. The utensils and oven in this cottage were like new. I shall not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.
The location was very good for our walking holiday, and the cottage was very well equipped with good hosts.
A beautifully situated small cottage, especially memorable because of the thoughtfulness of the owner, every possible thing you might have forgotten was provided. Also the cottage was warm and cosy.
This was one of the best cottages we have stayed in. The owner had provided everything you could possibly need. Loved it.
Lovely cosy cottage with lots of added extras. Loved the welcome pack of marmalade, eggs, milk and cake plus doggy snack. Tea, coffee etc to start you off. Kitchen perfect for self catering, full oven etc. Beautiful area lots of not too far away villages to explore, the scenery is stunning. Outhouse ideal for taking muddy boots off and drying dogs (there are even doggy towels provided if needed) if it is wet/muddy. Loads of books etc, very informative information of the area available. Fully stocked bathroom too, what a treat. Totally relaxing, bonus of seeing the steam train passing by the window on occasion. Great garden for the dog but be aware that you cannot just let them out as there is a path/gate to go through and until you go through gate the road is right next to you.
A lovely, comfortable and warm cottage which was very well equipped. The owners live next door but they certainly weren't intrusive, they were very helpful and friendly. The area is absolutely beautiful and there was lots of information in the cottage about the area.
The owners were very thoughtful. The cottage was well equipped and lovely & clean. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, and yet it was easy to get into Hawes and Sedbergh. The walking in that area is beautiful.
A great welcome from the hosts, plus everything you needed was provided and more. An excellent location, perfect.
We had a great week in the Dales and beyond, centered in this lovely, cosy cottage. The owners are welcoming and are available if you need them, otherwise leaving you alone to enjoy the cottage. You really don't need to bring anything - previous guests have left a bathroom full of Radox so you know it's good walking country. The visitor book shows that people come back time and again - one guest was on their 14th visit which has to be a recommendation. As the previous reviewer mentions, the owners provide a welcome tray of cake, plus eggs, milk and home-made marmalade. We also enjoyed seeing the cottage from the steam train to Carlisle. Also recommend the Moorcock pub.
It was very convenient for walking in the Dales and sufficiently off the beaten track for peace. The Cottage was very comfortable and quickly became 'home' for me.
The bathroom was well stocked with bath foams etc and there were supplies available if you had left anything behind such as tooth brush etc, this was on a use and replace basis which we thought was an excellent idea. There was a welcoming tray of cake and biscuits along with some marmalade and fresh eggs from the farm. Liked the rural location and although directly on a B road it was very quiet. Great library of maps and walks covering the whole area.
A lovely dog friendly Cottage situated amongst super scenery. A relaxing place for a holiday with plenty of super walks available in the local area. Everything was supplied in the cottage including a food welcome pack. Highly recommended. A super pub serving huge meals all day is just a mile away.
My wife and I plus our golden retriever have just spent a week at Sycamore Cottage. This is a lovely cottage for two people with or without a dog. There was a lovely welcome package waiting for us which included a snack for our dog. The cottage has everything you will need for your stay with all power and heating included. The scenery around the cottage is wonderful and ideal for walking which we did most days. There is the Moorcock Inn (if you fancy a break from self catering) within walking distance at just a mile away which serves huge portions of food all day. For those that like trains the Settle and Carlisle railway is just a field away from the cottage. We will be returning later this year for another peaceful and restful holiday.
The friendliness of our host family. A tea tray was left with cake and we also had homemade marmalade and eggs.
The property was well presented and a lovely place to stay in. We enjoyed our time there and hope to visit again.
Lovely, warm and cosy cottage, nice welcome pack and the owners were very welcoming.
Cottage well equipped, spotlessly clean and cosy. Home made marmalade and fresh eggs were a treat. Hawes only 10 minutes away. Lots of walks to suit everyone. Railway line opposite was a novelty. Owners very easy to get on with and friendly - the file in the cottage which tells you everything you need to know is worth its weight in gold! We will definately return.
The cottage was very welcoming and had everything we needed. It was situated in an ideal place to explore the Dales and visit the Lakes.
We had a great time in Yorkshire, lovely walks, great scenery and wonderful places for coffee and superb places for meals. The cottage was the best we have stayed in. Everything was there for us, hospitality tray a really nice touch. We couldn't have asked for anything else in cottage, the owners had everything sorted to the very handcream at the kitchen sink! Wow what a place, definitely stay at Sycamore Cottage again.
A good location for exploring the area. Owners very helpful but not at all intrusive. Great to be able to take our our dog which is an essential for us.
Very comfortable and cosy. The marmalade, eggs and hospitality tray awaiting us on arrival was delightful. One of the best equipped cottages we have ever visited.
We enjoyed the scenery and walks. We found the cottage was very comfortable and we were impressed by the kindliness and imagination of the owners in welcoming us and letting us know all those things that made life easier
All 'mod cons' included. So many, in fact, that it was difficult to go out!
Great location for easy access to fabulous breathtaking scenery, fabulous walks nearby, great train link for the one day it rained. Lovely welcome including jar of the best homemade marmalade I ever tasted, the freshest eggs and other little extras to make us feel at home.
Very well-appointed. Almost every item one wanted was there. Nice to have a pub, 'The Moorcock' that one could walk to (10 mins)!
Ingleborough Cave worth a visit - also take wellies. Very clean and tidy. Welcome pack was great.
A very friendly welcome. The cottage was attractive and well equipped.
Excellent walks in beautiful country.
The wonderful welcome - newlaid eggs, home-made marmalade - bath essence. We really felt able to get the rest and relaxation we needed.
Very rural and quiet location, yet not very far from good pub and village of Hawes. Also very friendly welcome.
The property was a lot more than we expected. So clean and tidy, and everything we needed to make a lovely weekend. Many thanks to the owners.
The property was extremely well-equipped. We appreciated the care taken and the helpfulness of the owners, well done to them both!
A great location. The local pub (Moorcock Inn) served excellent food. The property was warm, welcoming and very clean.
The owner was very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for her. If you like wild windswept outdoor conditions, this is the place to be! The scenery is fantastic. The Moorcock Inn is within walking distance of the cottage, and available all day for meals.
The cottage was ideal and had everything we wanted and, additionally, the owner had provided extra touches such as eggs, milk, and homemade marmalade. She went out of her way to be helpful...
A very warm welcome, and very good value.
A very comfortable and welcoming cottage. The pub is great for evening meals and dogs are welcome too.
It was all good - the weather, the walking, the accomodation - can say nothing but good things about the cottage and the Yorkshire Dales.
A very clean, warm, and comfortable cottage. The owners provided lots of extra touches e.g. eggs, a welcome tray, radox for baths etc. Well worth a visit.
We have enjoyed our holiday very much. It's been a very relaxing time away from traffic noise and stress. It's been very nice to be in the countryside and we have enjoyed the beautiful scenery very much.
The owner's attention to detail was far above the usual holiday accommodation.
The view from the cottage is quite magnificent.
Attention to detail by owner - very good. Very friendly. Moorcock Inn, down the road, excellent food & very friendly new management.
The additions to the contents of the cottage which seemed to indicate that the owners had taken time and effort to think of anything which we might want or need throughout our stay.
The cottage was excellent - very clean and well equipped with extra touches such as the welcome tray and fresh eggs. The location is perfect for exploring the surrounding dales and there are some fantastic waterfalls nearby, and the views were perfect - with the bonus of baby lambs. The Wensleydale Heifer (between Aysgarth and Leybourne) does a fantastic Carvery Lunch, and the Wensleydale and Ginger Cheesecake at the Creamery in Hawes was something else - good job there were plenty of places to walk it off!! Recommend the walk from Aysgarth to Castle Bolton of you have the energy!
Plenty of great walks nearby - maps from the tourist info. Train ride to Carlisle has great scenery - well worth the trip.
This is an area of stunning scenery. Great walks from the door, and in all directions. Owners very helpful. We used the BBQ 8 times, and it was excellent in the small garden with a picnic table provided. Fantastic courtesy tray on arrival.
View of Settle-Carlisle line. Thoughtful owner had provided extras such as spare toothbrush, toothpaste etc. in case you forgot yours. Also supplied free-range eggs.
The owner was a lovely person and could not do enough to make our stay so enjoyable and totally relaxing and stress free.
If you want to get away from it all, as I did, then the accommodation and location are excellent. The cottage is a good base for the many walks in the area.
The cottage is very cosy and comfortable, even though the weather was cold, and the owners very friendly. There are so many spectacular waterfalls in the area, which adding to the enjoyment of walking in the beautiful countryside
