I could only choose Nov 22, I actually went in June 22. It is a lovely cottage and very well equipped, but I was shocked on arrival on finding it far from easy to park. The photograph of the cottage is deceiving because that is the rear of the house. The front is awful, a cobbled street with cars parked either side. I reversed all the way down and parked literally on the front door step. A resident congratulated me on my reversing skills as he had watched many people struggle. Every day I had to go through the same rigmarole when going out to explore the area.

Cottage in lovely location very peaceful with beautiful walks straight from the door,we had a lovely week, cottage is quite old fashioned inside which didn't bother us but might not be to everyone's taste, and it definitely needs a new fridge as it's very old, view from twin bedroom is stunning and I love the window!a lovely spot to sit and chill.

We really enjoyed our stay and have already re booked for next year. On arrival we were greeted by a roaring log fire which was so welcoming after a long journey. The cottage is really close to the local village and we explored various walking routes throughout the week although it was just as nice to stay inside some afternoons as we really felt at home. The views were lovely and the furnishings were really comfortable. I honestly couldn't fault one thing.

I was absolutely astonished at how tired and down at heel the cottage is, we arrived after a long journey to find the decor old, tatty and out dated, the bathroom was barely functional and the furniture and furnishings dirty and thread bare, we could have dealt with that but when we went into the kitchen we were horrified and disgusted, every surface was sticky with old grease and had a smelly of rancid meat fat, we opened the oven to find old fat congealed in the door seal and on the surfaces, when we put the oven on the smell was gut wrenching, the heat melted the grease and it dropped from the roof on to the shelves below! With kitchen was very poorly equipped, there was a huge amount of coffee cups and saucers but the cooking equipment was old sticky and completely unusable! We tried to put it all through the dishwasher but it came out dirtier than when it went in as the filters were obviously blocked and filthy! We had no choice but to go and buy pans to cook with, luckily we had the foresight to take a halogen oven so we could cook decent meals! We put all this to Sykes Cottages but the owner had the audacity to deny that the kitchen is dirty! All I can say is that there are different levels of accepted cleanliness and for us locks cottage fell way below our standards! We have decided that it’s way to expensive to book a holiday cottage as turning up to a hovel that has cost over £300 is an expensive risk! It does have an award with 4 stars or rosettes awarded in 2016, but that is also dusty and dirty and it’s my assumption that the whole place hasn’t been cleaned or maintained since the day that the award was given. Please don’t let my experience put you off, if you like the description of the cottage then this is the place for you

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful week in this beautifull cottage. The accomadation is clean, well maintained and is in an ideal location for walkers and cyclists. When the weather was warm enough we enjoyed relaxing in the garden watching the wildlife on the mill pond. The owner Janet takes great pride in her business so there for nothing is to much trouble. We will definitely be returning. Many thanx. X

Rated by Caroline L reviewed on 8th June 2017

On arriving at Locks Cottage there was a damp "Musty" smell as for being a Quiet Peaceful haven as advertised there is a right of way to the front and side where drunken youths were climbing the wall in the garden and Sykes and the owner say there is off road parking which there is not you have to park your car up against the front door. We booked 7 days but the smell got so bad that we left after 2 days. when we complained to Sykes and the owner were aggressive and they both refuse to give us a refund nor an apology

Locks Cottage was absolutely superb. The location is what makes the place so great, however the cleanliness of the cottage was also surprising. We will be back.

The property is a credit to the owner who provides you with a "home from home." We felt at home from the moment we arrived to when we (regrettably) had to leave. We will be back as soon as we can afford the time away, thanks to all.

Rated by Mr Wilson reviewed on 26th March 2016

Locks Cottage was really lovely. We were welcomed by a lovely coal fire which made the cottage feel very comfortable and cosy. As we stayed at the cottage in December this was a very welcome sight when we walked in, as it was cold and wet outside. The bed was really comfortable and we had a good nights sleep, as was the furniture in the lounge and we were able to relax throughout our stay. The position of the cottage was lovely, looking over the Mill Pond from the back and a lovely quiet terrace to the front. All in all a lovely quiet place for a relaxing short holiday, hopefully we can stay longer next time.

This was one of the best holiday cottages we have visited from Sykes. The location is superb, so peaceful and very quiet, with so much to see and do within the local area and the Dales. The cottage is beautifully equipped all over and very tastefully decorated. There are a number of special touches and details throughout the cottage which made for a most welcome and comfortable holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were able to relax in this most special, cosy setting. We hope to be able to return one day.

The situation close to Settle but not in Settle and also on a mill pond with ducks coming up to the house as we ate breakfast. As a base for numerous walks and for access to Settle this is a wonderful spot. The Cottage was very comfortable and the owner was very helpful.

Rated by Henderson reviewed on 11th October 2013

We were looking for a relaxing stay in the Dales with plenty of countryside to enjoy , day trips and long walks on the hills. Settle is a fine base. Janet , the property owner , has furnished and equipped the cottage well. We slept well and enjoyed watching ducks walking on the back lawn as we ate breakfast. The walk into Settle along the canal and river bank is about 20 minutes. The drive is perhaps 5 minutes. In Settle is a delightful café - the Naked Man Café from where you can view the comings and goings of the market place. For a week our Canadian family could not immediately contact us as this was one of the few spots that did not have Wi-Fi or mobile phone access- a relief for us! .Wi-Fi is available at the Naked man and mobile phone reception improves dramatically 400 meters up the road. All in all we had a great stay in rural Yorkshire and loved the Dales. Janet was very helpful in forwarding our camera which we left in the Cottage.

Lovely comfortable house - direct access to a number of good walks and not far to a large number of others. We all felt very much at home - could have happily moved in which is probably the best accolade!

Rated by Mrs Brown reviewed on 24th January 2012

Great Cottage would rent again - however I am extremely disappointed by the rental company which seams to be passing my email address to everyone including this website which I've never signed up to. The only reason I am leaving a review is that the cottage was wonderful and I doubt they know that the agency is passing on renters details. Property was well maintained and very welcoming. Tucked away in a valley, pond at bottom of garden. Only downside is the public footpath giving no privacy in garden.

Locks Cottage is an excellent base for a walking holiday. We hardly used the car whilst away; 4 different pleasant walks into Settle alone!

Rated by Mrs O ' Connell reviewed on 1st May 2010

The service was first class due to the cleanliness of Lock’s Cottage and the homily atmosphere it created. First impression of walking thru the front door was welcoming. Lock’s Cottage had everything that was required to make anyone’s stay enjoyable. The open fireplace was a welcome addition, which was used on cool and chilly evenings. It was a home away from home with no need to go looking for any utensil for cooking. 0ne could sit in the garden and enjoy the tranquility of the ducks swimming by on the millpond. Being situated by a ramblers’ path, we walked into Settle which is ten minutes away. Right out the front door, you can walk to the weir, to observe on the bridge the waterfall and salmon run. I highly recommend any visitor to stay in this glorious part of the Dales. One could not expect anything more when staying in Lock’s Cottage. Everything best, nothing least.
