Reviews

We had the pleasure of staying at this amazing home for one week at the end of June. We usually spend most of our time out and about and eating in a local pub but Cambridge Lodge is so well equipped and has such a lovely ambience and location we ate in every night. The owner Lisa is extremely welcoming and easy to talk to. She gave us a quick guided tour with handy hints for the property and the area and provided the most amazing buffet for our arrival (lasted three days by adding extra salad!) including a bottle of prosecco so we could toast the upcoming wedding of our friends who joined us for one night. The lodge itself is open and spacious on two levels. On the upper level is the twin room, family bathroom and the kitchen which has a large dining area. The cupboards and drawers have everything you would have at home, an array of sharp knives and utensils, plenty of mugs, bowls and plates, roasting trays, casserole dishes... the list goes on. Specialty teas and coffees are provided as well as oils, herbs, spices, also included are the washing/cleaning products. You could create a come dine with me night with this kitchen!! Also on the upper level is a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and a shaper machine which was great to use after a days hiking!! There is a stair case either side leading to the lower floor which has seating for every one. Chairs in the library corner, games area and sofas in front of the television which has free Netflix. The double bedrooms are either side of the sitting room, one has high ceilings with an ensuite shower or the other with it's very own cinema room. Which would you prefer?? There are books and tourist leaflets to read, games to play, a music docking station...you won't be bored here even when it's raining. Outside the views outside are breathtaking, we even saw a buzzard flying in the distance. Being at the end of the track it's very peaceful as only the occasional hiker will pass by. There's plenty of parking and several tables and chairs to sit outside to enjoy that prosecco or cup of tea. We loved staying here as it had lots of walks and hikes on the doorstep and within 30 minutes we were in Edale ready to scale Kinder Scout. It's close to Bakewell (market day is Monday) Matlock bath and many pretty villages waiting to be explored. Our requirements for our holiday home was to be clean, spacious, peaceful and to have a view Cambridge lodge certainly ticked all our boxes. Stay here, you won't regret it.

Outstanding, five stars plus, just returned from the most wonderful, fantastic property one could wish to stay in. Cambridge lodge beautifully decorated and furnished, couldn't wish for anything more warm and cosy, spotlessly clean and brilliantly equipped nothing was missing, wonderful views and lovely walks. Welcome from our host wow, warm and friendly, and so caring, phoned on the night to see that my mom who is 93 was ok and settled which she was, she thought the lodge was out of this world and our host was so lovely. That's not all the extras provided, milk, teas coffee's and a wonderful hamper and welcome tea!!!! It kept us going a few days - thank you so much for everything and allowing us to stay in your beautiful property. You should be and hope you are so proud of what you have done

Our stay at Cambridge Lodge was brilliant. From the time we got there with the welcome hamper of food and wine, to the Easter eggs that our host, Lisa, had hidden around the place for our son to have an Easter egg hunt, it was brilliant. I have never stayed in such a well appointed and superbly maintained property. The owner, Lisa met us when we got there and showed us around, explaining how things worked and a little bit of history of the place, and was always on hand throughout the stay if we needed her as she lived on the farm about 5 minutes away. Before we got there she said to pack lightly as there was everything we'd need in the lodge, and she was right.. there was. Detergents, sauces, herbs, condiments, sharp knives (something that never exists in holiday lets! ) and even a slow cooker. The property itself is amazing, but does have limited headroom in a section downstairs, you just duck your head when you are there as it's part of the quirkiness of living in such a property. I'm 6ft tall and I didn't hit my head once, I just remembered to duck! I've stayed in many holiday homes over the years, in both this country and USA, both modern and quirky, but this has to be the best by far. Lisa said she wanted to do the job properly and she's certainly done that, I'd thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in this area, it's lovely and quiet, good links to the main roads and nearby Matlock Bath and has plenty of walks in the immediate vicinity if you just fancy an afternoon or evening stroll.

Cambridge Lodge certainly has the wow factor in abundance. It is even better than the photographs. The fixtures and fittings are of an extremely high standard. Bedding, towels etc are best quality. All furnishings are very comfortable. It is far more than "a home away from home". It is equipped with everything you will need and more, for a relaxing stay in a lovely area of the Peak District. There is no welcome pack your arrival. Instead you are provided with a "welcome feast", that kept us supplied for days. The owner, Lisa goes above and beyond what you would expect. Her wonderful greeting on our arrival, telephone call on first evening, and unexpected bottle of Prosecco on our return from a day out to celebrate our wedding anniversary, followed up with a telephone call on our return home, shows this is a labour of love. There is no "if" we will return, just a "when" will we return.

Fabulous property in a fantastic location. It really is a home from home. There was every imaginable kitchen utensil and cooking implement. It is an excellent self catering cottage, like nothing I've experienced elsewhere. The welcome from the owner was second to none.

Rated by Mrs Mackland reviewed on 17th July 2016

This was our third time there, it is a piece of heaven. This is a seven star place and service, we will be going back again. It is a home from home, there is nothing more you could want and it is set in beautiful surroundings.

Rated by Miss Melbourne reviewed on 26th June 2016

As Cambridge Lodge wasn't booked the week prior to our arrival, Lisa invited us to check-in early and laid on a superb welcome lunch. Lisa is a wonderful host and she and Jim have made sure that everything you could possible need and more is supplied - fully equipped kitchen, wifi, smart TVs (with Netflix), a body shaper (you have to experience it to understand what it is!), an abundance of toiletries, every type of tea you could possibly want, plus more. Cambridge Lodge is ideally situated for exploring the Peak District, is secluded enough, but not too far away from the large shops in Matlock or a very good village shop in Winster.

Wow, what an amazing cottage! The cottage had everything you could want and we felt at home immediately. There was plenty of room for the four of us and we especially liked the snug in the evening. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and Cambridge Lodge beats all of them. We would definitely stay again.

It was an unusual conversion of a water tank. The owner has gone above and beyond her duty to make sure that your holiday is as special as it can be. Every little detail has been thought about. Perfect location too!

Rated by Mrs Wood reviewed on 17th April 2016

The welcome by the owners was outstanding. We knew every night that when we returned after a day out from walking that the house would be warm and comfortable. We all slept well as the beds were comfortable. There was everything anyone could need and all in immaculate condition.

Rated by Mrs Hutchinson reviewed on 20th March 2016

It is a warm and spacious property with excellent features and very comfortable. All expected facilities are there and some unexpected too. The location is very quiet and the welcome from the owner was very warm and helpful. We will be going back. It is difficult to imagine anywhere nicer.

Excellent standard of accommodation. Everything was perfect with a fabulously warm welcome from the owner. Couldn't fault it.

This lodge is very unique, very well equipped, very clean and amazingly decorated. We stayed in January 2016 and the lodge was warm and cosy. We had a relaxing week and recommend the lodge to all. We will be booking again very soon.

What a fantastic, quirky holiday home! The attention to detail was brilliant with everything we needed and more. The welcome we received from Lisa was great and very informative, she is rightly very proud of their conversion. We would love to return.

The cottage itself blew away all our expectations, we could not have asked for a better week away, and hope we get the chance to visit again.

Rated by Mr James reviewed on 12th October 2015

I don’t know what I can add to what the other reviews have said. From our first contact with the cottages owners, to our last day we have been wowed by the quality and attention to detail that Lisa has put into her property. My partner and I have rented a number of cottages before, not one has come close to the welcome received from Cambridge Lodge, the welcome feast prepared by Lisa was sufficient to last us days and was simply stunning. We had booked for our anniversary, and Lisa went above and beyond what we had expected, adding balloons and congratulatory banners. The location of the property is wonderfully secluded, whilst there we saw a family of deer along with a range of other animals. The cottage itself blew away all expectation; the size and attention to detail were wonderful. We could not have asked for a better week away, and hope we get the chance to visit again :)

Rated by Paul J reviewed on 11th October 2015

This accommodation is absolutely top notch. Have never come across an accommodation where literally everything is catered for. The owners really do ensure your stay is very comfortable and you want for nothing. I have stayed in several self catering accommodations over the years and it is gong to be extremely hard to find anything in the future that comes up to this standard.

Wow! The best cottage we have ever stayed at. It was large, roomy and well provisioned. Amazing! There was not only WiFi but Netflix and books galore to read - just amazing value!

This is a five star accommodation place to stay in a five star location but the added bonus of seven star service from the owners they could not make you more welcome or comfortable we are going back next year a must be place to visit in such beautiful surroundings

From the very first moment of our arrival to the minute we left the cottage and owners (Lisa and Jim) wowed us with the quality and attention to detail. We've rented a number of cottages before, but none have ever come close to the Cambridge Lodge. The welcome "feast" laid on by Lisa lasted us days, the spread was simply stunning. Lisa's welcome was very heartfelt. The cottage itself blew away all expectations we had, the sheer size, amenities and supplies that were available from the get go. The views and location are also excellent, we couldn't have wished for a better start for our visit from Thailand... our only regret is we only stayed a week before leaving to move to Cumbria and a new cottage. I hope we get chance to return!

The house and hospitality is the best I have experienced and the Derby Dales are amazing, even in February.

Rated by Mr Mullen reviewed on 22nd February 2015

The property was unusual, very impressive and the owner was welcoming and generous.

Rated by Mrs Ashley reviewed on 16th February 2015

This is by far the best holiday rental I have ever stayed in. The communication from the owner prior to our visit was outstanding, her welcome on the day was overwhelming and the property was simply amazing. Nothing is too much trouble, the welcome "pack" was a feast and quite simply the whole week was an absolute pleasure. The quality of the décor, furnishings and finishing touches surpasses all expectations. The property offers the chance to relax, unwind from all of life's stresses and appreciate the picturesque scenery (not to mention the sheep in the fields surrounding!). I could wax lyrical all day. Any visitors to this property in future will, I hope, recognise the importance of respecting Cambridge Lodge and leave it as they find it. It is way more than a home from home. I have never re-booked a holiday property as I have done with Cambridge Lodge - we went on line within 1 day of arrival and booked for next year!

I can add nothing to the other excellent reviews! I have already reccommended it to friends & colleagues & family. Very interesting conversion. Very clean. Attention to detail gives the visitor a wonderful experience, from comfortable bedding, to everything in the kitchen you might need & more, exercise machine, TV's & WiFi, chessboard & other games, information about local activities & to top it all a very warm welcome with a basket of treats. Also stunning rural location. Walks on your doorstep. Close to visit Chatsworth House.

We had a wonderful fortnight here. Jim and Lisa are the perfect hosts and really put themselves out to make us comfortable. There is everything you could possibly need, from WIFI to Netflix, from toiletries to an exercise machine, from books and board games to a swingball. Lots of walks around and beautiful views. The only rule is to relax and enjoy your stay. We spent days exploring alternating with chilling. Sadly the weather stopped us lying on the roof and watching the stars. We took teenagers and they were happily kept occupied. Don't miss the chance to vist a cave via a cable car or try the proper Bakewell Pudding. We can highly recommend the cottage and hope to return.

We stayed at Cambridge Lodge with our family to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. The property is wonderful. Very clean, peaceful and well equipped. The hosts Jim and Lisa are fabulous and can't do enough for you. Lisa is a very kind person who goes the extra mile to make your stay at this wonderful property perfect for your individual needs. She even popped in with candles and a birthday balloon ! If you like individual and unusual properties then this is the place for you. We will definitely be back !

This converted water tank had a real 'grand design' feel to it and was perfect for what turned out to be a very wet long weekend. The owners were very welcoming and could not do enough for us, the welcome pack was the most generous we have ever come across and all in all it was very luxurious and very relaxing.

Rated by Mr Bushell reviewed on 14th May 2014

The location was magical, we could sit on the roof of the house and watch the sunrise over the valley, offering peace and quiet. The property was also really near to lots of interesting things to do including walking and Alton Towers. Countryside does not often offer this much variety. Addition of WiFi and all modern communication systems meant our teenagers accepted and enjoyed the rural appeal..a really relaxing break with something for everyone. The owners were outstandingly helpful.

Not sure how you could better this place. Amazing welcome basket of goodies and wine and endless toiletries. Spotless and full of all the kitchen gadgets you could ever need. Perfect for six old chums catching up over long walks and board games (and wine)

Fantastic accommodation - really quirky and unusual but also offered a high level of comfort and style. Lots of little extras and attention to detail. We have stayed in numerous rental properties, both here and abroad, and Cambridge Lodge is up there amongst the best. Excellent location too, with unspoilt views surrounding the property. Highly recommended.
