The beautiful market town of Pickering is located on the North Yorkshire Moors National Park border. According to town legend, it was founded by Peredurus, a king who ruled during 270 BC. Pickering is filled with flowing streams and limestone hills, creating a spectacular and dramatic backdrop. For evenings out, the town has plenty of theatres, leisure centres and live music; an annual Jazz Festival is held during the month of July. Nature lovers will find Pickering especially appealing with its breathtaking landmarks, such as Dalby Forest, which is home to a variety of beautiful trees and animals such as the nightjar bird and roe deer. Another wonderful conservational must-see is the North Yorkshire Moors National Park itself, consisting of miles of stunning and unspoilt countryside. Tourists will love a taste of royalty by visiting Pickering Castle. The castle was built in Motte and Bailey style during the 13th and 14th centuries and later fortified in stone.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
We arrived a bit early but were met by the owners returning from the local shops a ten minute stroll down the main road . The cottage was well presented very nicely decorated with modern furnishings and we'll equipped kitchen with all modern appliances. Off road parking is provided for one car it is large enough for any size vehicle including larger SUV favoured by many people now . There is a large living room and good size kitchen diner upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms and nice bathroom with bath and separate shower over the bath . There is an excellent heating system so with the very thick walls should be nice and warm even in winter . There is also a fan heater in living room to use if needed. The local shops are just 10 minutes down road along with Pickering town centre they include both a Co op supermarket and a Lidl supermarket that has a very good in store bakery serving bread rolls , Danish pastries and various rolls which are lovely fresh baked for breakfast . All the shops you need are located in the high street along with Cafe's and Restaurants. The owners of the cottage have provided lots of information of local attractions and we found many places we liked . The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs from Pickering and we'll worth the trip even though it seems expensive it is very good value at just over 50p a mile .
Cottage is in a good central location for visiting the surrounding countryside and coast. The standard of cleanliness and quality of the furnishings of the cottage is excellent. We would definitely consider booking it again in the future.
A cosy comfortable cottage in an excellent location, with friendly owners.
The cottage is a credit to the owners. They are friendly, and helpful, without being intrusive.
It was fantastic and the the owners made us feel right at home. Any time we needed any assistance with anything at the property it was never a problem. I'd absolutely recommend to friends and family. The cottage was in great condition, it had all we needed for our stay. The rooms were lovely, it was very cosy and just felt like home. All in all it was a wonderful break and our two and a half year old son enjoyed himself especially!
When we walked through the door we knew it was going to be a great place to stay. Although we had never been before, it was almost like coming home! The décor is fresh, calm and peaceful, and is carried throughout the cottage giving it a really professional finish. Loved the cottage and loved the owner - she is just wonderful - nothing is too much trouble. We will definitely book to stay there again.
