This is the second time we have stayed at the Mallard. Perfect for couples, with or without a dog. Very clean and tidy. A warm welcome from Steve the owner, always there if you need him. Cosy and romantic cottage, and love the woodburner! We will be coming back again and again Plenty to see and do,

I stayed at Mallard with my partner and dog in May 2015. We absolutely loved everything about it! The views around the property, the wildlife on the pond and the swan family with their 8 babies! The tidy enclosed garden, the comfy patio furniture, the French doors and open aspect of the downstairs living area. The property is very bright, cosy and comfortable and provides a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds, Forest of Dean and Wales! We loved it so much we rebooked the day after we returned and I'm counting the days down before we go back at the end of August 2016!!

Such a lovely place to stay, the setting is beautiful and there is so much to do close-by. The cottage overlooked a pond and we often saw herons - just fantastic, we would recommend it to anyone.

It was peaceful with wildlife from the garden and overlooking a pond with heron, ducks and a pheasant etc. It was relaxing after lovely walks and central for exploring the area. This is one excellent cottage and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. One to definitely revisit.

Mallard is a great place, lots of wildlife, great owner.

Rated by Mr Hartley-Morris reviewed on 28th May 2016

Loved the secure garden from the French doors, it was perfect to keep an eye on the dog. The vista from cottage was beautiful and we had a wonderful time in the surrounding forests with help from the dog walking guide in the cottage. The local pub and people were so friendly and accommodating. We will be back for sure.

A cosy cottage just perfect for a romantic break. Quiet but not to far to explore the Forest of Dean, Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Evesham and many other places. We would definitely would like to return. A big thank you to the owners

Rated by Mr Flockhart reviewed on 20th March 2016

This cottage is set in lovely surroundings. We took our dog and there were so many woodland walks to explore. We sat in the cottage and looked out to a pond and fields (heaven). Geese, swans, Bluetits, ducks and so much more wildlife. We felt so relaxed after a week at this cottage. Would recommend to anyone

This place is great. Really cosy and perfect size for two. It was really well designed and laid out so that it felt cosy but never felt that we were lacking space. Nice decor and furnishings and well finished. Everything we needed was there and the owner was very friendly and helpful, providing additional logs and kindling on request. Brilliant base point location for walks in the Forest of Dean and close to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Ross if you prefer the town shopping experience. The dog loved sitting in the garden and watching the geese and sheep. This location is idyllic. We strongly recommend this as a getaway for two and will definitely return.

The cottage was perfectly sized for us and our puppy. Everything was in great condition and we had absolutely everything we needed for the week we were there. We were given great help by the owner when needed but they did not intrude - it was just the right amount of communication.

Rated by Mrs Nicols reviewed on 26th January 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were looking for relaxation and beautiful walks and we found them both. The cottage was so warm and cosy, a pleasure to stay in. Our hosts were great, really welcoming and helpful. We are looking forward to a return visit.

Rated by Mrs Stephens reviewed on 4th January 2016

The location of the cottage is perfect for a relaxing break and lots of walks. When sat in the garden it's so peaceful. Having the resident swans visit your garden every day was lovely and the enclosed garden is perfect for your dog. The cottage itself has everything you need and it's a real home from home retreat. We will be back!

Rated by Mrs Scott reviewed on 30th December 2015

The enclosed garden was excellent because we took our pet dog. There is a wonderful view from the cottage and lovely walks locally and a few minutes by car. The owners made sure that the cottage is very cosy and comfortable and left plenty of logs for the wood burning fire. We will book another stay next year.

This place is fantastic. It is small but perfectly formed, and despite its cosiness, it lacks nothing. It is surrounded by beautiful fields which are home to swans and sheep.. both of which come right up to your fence to say hello. The owner is the ideal blend of always being available, but never in the way. We will certainly be back, and certainly recommending to friends.

A stunning place with welcoming people, would recommend to family & friends and would go back myself.

We stayed at this property last week and cannot wait to go back again. Do not be fooled by the exterior view as it is quite spacious inside.

A cosy, clean, well maintained cottage in peaceful surroundings. It was well located for access to the Forest of Dean and other tourist attractions. Had friendly hosts.

Rated by Mr Kirkup reviewed on 25th May 2015

Very nice cottage in a fantastic setting. You could get to the Forest of Dean directly from the doorstep. The River Severn is within walking distance and you can see the Severn Bore. There are plenty of places of interest within easy driving distance. An ideal location in a beautiful part of the country. The owner is very friendly and keen for you to enjoy yourself.

Rated by Mr Lee reviewed on 29th March 2015

Mallard is a cosy, relaxing property with an amazing view over fields and a duck pond that makes you feel you are truly in the countryside and 'getting away from it all'. The wood burning stove is a real plus that added to our experience. We enjoyed being able to go for beautiful walks in the Forest of Dean but come back to enjoy relaxing in pleasant accommodation.

Rated by Mrs Laws reviewed on 1st March 2015

Loved this holiday accommodation. The views were beautiful and seeing the Severn Bore was amazing. The lounge was very spacious and seeing the stars from in bed was lovely. An ideal garden for our dog and we braved the cold to sit out a few times.

Rated by Mrs Sparks reviewed on 22nd February 2015

The location was perfect for both the forest and also for getting into the local towns. Our evening's were spent cosy and warm in front of the log burner. Will hopefully manage to get back in the warmer months.

A beautiful cosy little cottage, very relaxing and warm. Lovely surrounds, especially the duck pond and the wildlife around it. Couldn't fault it and we didn't want to leave!

The location both geographically and physically. A very light airy property and well suited to having a pet with us. Generally very comfortable and also warm when the temperature dropped.

Rated by Mr Myers reviewed on 30th October 2014

Very clean and comfortable with plenty of space. An ideal location overlooking fields and pond.

Rated by Mr Bright reviewed on 19th October 2014

I am very happy to say this property was exactly as described both verbally and photographically by the rental company. The cottage is situated a little way up a lane to the side of the owners home and another cottage they also rent out so you are literally in the middle of all the open greenery and truly away from it all and everyone, but still just minutes away from the not too busy main road. The actual location of the area where it is also very good for visiting other places of interest within a 10-15 mile radius. The furthest we travelled one day was to Cardiff which is a distance of approximately 40 miles. The decor, furniture and fittings were all excellent, clean and in good order. Despite the cottage being for just two people there was a three seater sofa with a separate matching chair which gave a variety of seating/lounging opportunities. It was a very pleasant change from the majority of properties which provide either just a two seater sofa or two high backed wing chairs which are not conducive to relaxation at all. There were several lamps dotted about in addition to the bright ceiling lights so you were able to light the lounge in a variety of ways as you would at home. Plug sockets were plentiful which are essential in today's age of technology with the inclusive availability of a superfast and reliable wifi connection. The property is deceptively spacious once inside and although an open layout on the ground floor each area didn't impact on the others. The lounge is thoughtfully laid out to feel as if it was actually a separate room from the dining area and kitchen. The log burning stove was easy to use (yes it was a beautiful week with warm evenings but we had to try it out at least once) and the free supply of quality dried logs ensured it lit easily and burnt steadily. Upstairs there was a bathroom with a wonderful shower over the bath. The temperature remained constant and the water pressure was very good ensuring a decent shower every time. The bath was quite deep and water flow from the taps a little slow so it did take a while to fill the bath. There is a large landing which contained a single wardrobe. The bedroom was a reasonable size with a centrally located king size bed with decent room to get dressed at either side, but the sloping ceiling/roof meant there wasn't room for a wardrobe hence why it was on the landing. I feel there is room to provide a dressing table in addition to the triple chest of drawers but there wasn't one. There was a mirror on the wall above the waist high drawer unit which means you have to stand to dry your hair and put your face on. The windows are in the roof and have good blinds that keep the light out but when it is warm and the windows are open the room is well lit from sunrise ie 5am ish. The owners have thoughtfully provided two cooling fans but its either the noise of the fans versus the early light. For most people this wont be an issue but for me not only do I like a cool, quiet room to sleep in I also like a pitch black one as well. I am looking forward to staying again during the winter months when the warmth wont be an issue, but then this will mean that I wont be able to take advantage of the amazing outdoor space with the comfortable chairs and barbecue set up that is also provided. Outside there is a lawned area as well as the flagged area which is just outside the patio doors and a small shed to store the chairs in when not in use. The whole area is fenced off to ensure you don't receive visits from any stray sheep, not that there were any when we were there, or the resident swans and their babies don't get too near as they liked to come right up to the fence each evening but the mother would hiss to warn you not to get too close! I was glad of that fence then I can tell you. We had such a relaxing time here and were able to visit so many places of interest I cant wait to stay again as there are still so many more places that we would like to see that are only a short distance away from the cottage and also to enjoy the ambience of the building and its surroundings.
