Perfect location to have a wonderful holiday in the southern area of the Lake District. The Byre is a lovely and cosy cottage. In a secluded and quiet spot it is a superb place to chill out with country lane walks nearby for our pet lab. Cartmel, Windermere, Hawkshead and Grange over Sands all short distances for our grandchildren to have fun. In particular, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (The Peter Rabbit Experience) at Bowness-on-Windermere is exceptional. There were several welcoming items (milk/biscuits/wine//dog treats) on arrival which were very much appreciated. This was our second visit to the Byre and it won't be our last when holidaying again in the Lake District. Lots to do and lots to see in this part of the world and the Byre is an excellent cottage to return to after a busy day whether you are walking, sightseeing or visiting attractions.

We stayed here at the end of August with 2 children and our dog. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful spot with easy access to Cartmel & Grange Over Sands. The cottage is great and is lovely and quirky being on 3 floors. The enclosed back yard was perfect for our dog. There were some nice touches with biscuits, dog treats and elderflower cordial left on arrival. We have already recommended this to family and friends and would definitely stay here again. The beds were really comfy and plenty of towels etc.

I stayed here will my family at the end of July for a week. What a beautiful location. The cottage is larger than expected and very quirky. Set over three floors with beautiful exposed beams. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. The cottage was a perfect base for exploring the lakes and the village of Cartmel not too far away. We walked there on our last day and it took around 40 minutes which went very quickly whilst being entertained by spectacular views. I would highly recommend The Byre

I stayed in this cottage at the beginning of July with my family and their young baby. The cottage is unique in that it is on 3 levels. It served our purposes well but we felt that more attention to detail would have scored this property much higher. The kitchen could have been better equipped and the property cleaned more thoroughly particularly the bathroom and kitchen. The cooker hood filters were very greasy and there were a lot of flies around and in the property which could be understood as it was adjacent to a farm. The twin beds in the ground floor bedroom were extremely hard and the springs could be felt through the mattress. Please be aware that the photos of the cottage on Trip Advisor are not all current. If the problems above were addressed I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to a friend. We all missed having access to Wi-Fi and the use of a washing machine. Perhaps not essentials for some people but desirable for us.

In a very peaceful location within easy reach of the Lake Districts popular towns. We have a dog so the walled and enclosed garden was particularly good for us. It was ideal for 2 people and a dog. There were good leaflets in the property for where to visit and details of local pubs/restaurants for evening meals, that were not too far away. Definitely worth a look as a cottage accommodation.

Arrived Here Fri 17th June for 1 Week Very Nice Cottage on 3 Levels,Very Clean & Spacious Had a problem with the electric cooker on the 1st night so the owner who lives next door cooked our tea for us Brand New Cooker in place by Sunday Morning Very Quiet area about 2 miles to Cartmel in the car 5-10 mins the only small problem we had was with Flies from the Monday,at some times there could be 10 -20 of the little buggers flying at you while you were eating or watching TV An Extra Large Can of Fly Spray and a good aim with a tea towel nearly sorted the problem We had great weather except for the Sunday and the Patio was great for sitting outside after walking round Cartmel Overall Very Nice & Relaxing(No Mobile Phone Coverage or WiFi thou)

The cottage had everything we needed, we had a 9 month old and a huskie, and the layout of the cottage worked very well. Plenty to see in the area and the peace and quiet was lovely as well. Most of the places we visited were happy for dogs to go in. Will definitely be going back.

We stayed at The Byre to celebrate my birthday, me, my partner, my parents and pooch. The weather was lovely and we were able to explore much of the lakes including Cartmel, Grange over Sands, Kendal, Hawkshead, Windermere and Coniston. The cottage is very spacious inside with beautiful high beam ceilings which is hard to capture in a photo. It was also immaculate yet cosy with beautiful fresh flowers upon arrival. The location is very tranquil and peaceful. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the pooch out for a morning run in the village down by St Peters Church watching the sun rise was beautiful the only noise was the sounds of birds chirping or an odd moo of a cow. Would highly recommend The Byre for a relaxing and cosy stay.

Me and my fiancée visited cartmel/grange over sands for a long weekend. It was a fantastic cottage, spacious and perfect to take along our dog. The photographs don't do the property justice. Would highly recommend staying here and we will certainly be back

This is a semi-detached cottage which is absolutely stunning. Sarah certainly has thought of everything even down to little details. The cottage was well stocked which we weren't expecting but was glad of! The garden was well enclosed and was all patio-ed so no need to worry about muddy foot prints or paw prints. I stayed with my husband and our dog Odin, the enclosed garden meant that we could leave the door open while we were in so Odin could go out when he wanted without worrying that he would escape! There is no WIFI here and we couldn't get a phone signal, but, for me, this was perfect as it meant that my husband wasn't working the entire holiday so he was able to relax as much as me! The walk into Cartmel is about an hour away. We found a nice walk on a quiet road by going right out of the property, down the lane toward the church at the bottom, going left onto the busier road and then turning right just past a phone box and following signs to Wood Broughton. The walk is spectacular, the views are amazing and the road are quiet and safe which is excellent if you have dogs or children. There are so many beautiful walks you can do up bridlepaths and across fields! All in all we had a wonderful holiday in a beautiful rural cottage. Thank you Sarah, we will definitely come back again. The property was very roomy with pleasant and relaxing décor on all four different levels. The kitchen was very well equipped including a simple but very efficient electric cooker. There were good views from the property and a pleasant paved and walled garden to the rear affording privacy and shelter when the weather required. The location was well suited for a holiday in the Lakes; especially the southern ones.

Beautiful stone cottage. The layout is quirky which adds to it's charm. Lovely lounge with lovely furnishings. Kitchen and dining room excellent and double doors lead to an enclosed garden which has a patio and raised flower beds. Perfect for our dog, no muddy paws! Bathroom and double bedroom excellent. The cottage was very clean. Cartmel is just 2 miles away. We will return.

We went to The Byre to celebrate Christmas and it was an absolute dream! Tucked away on the country roads near Cartmel, The Byre was a beautiful and well kept cottage. It was also a huge benefit that we were also able to bring our dog, who also loved the cottage! All in all a lovely Christmas was had and a huge thank you to the owners for such a wonderful stay!

Very spacious, well maintained cottage. It is much bigger than the website suggests and in a lovely rural location.

My husband and I wanted a birthday weekend away for ourselves but somewhere we could bring our dog Billy. Great communication from Penny the owner about availability and rates and very helpful with directions to the property. Penny stayed up late to allow us to access the property. Beautiful cottage with enclosed yard which was perfect with the dog to allow him out and not having to worry about him running off. Next to Cartmel village which is a short drive away with dog friendly pubs, lovely little shops and great walks. I would highly recommend this property for its location in the lakes, how comfortable it is and the fact it is spotless and dog friendly.

A great location in the heart of the country but close to everything, especially the lovely town of Cartmel. Beautiful cottage with high ceilings and exposed beams adjoining the main farmhouse.

On arrival, we were surprised how small The Byre looked from outside, but when we entered we were very pleased with the layout. Very roomy and very comfortable, the warmest cottage we have stayed in. Lovely to return to after a cold day out walking. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

A superb, well appointed cottage in a quiet hamlet but within easy reach of the Lakes. We would certainly go there again as in most cases by the time you have found your way around it is time to come home.

Rated by Mr Sangwell reviewed on 12th October 2014

The peace and quiet, it was absolutely wonderful, just what we needed. Thank you so much, a beautiful cottage with lovely garden and so close to Windermere, we really hope we can go back later in the year.
