Reviews

A pretty and quiet location close to the charming town of Saffron Walden with its three interesting mazes and independent shops and cafes. Tourist Information Office extremely helpful. We also visited NT Wimpole Hall Farm. We enjoyed our stay in this cosy cottage. A few suggestions: as this has sleeping accommodation for 6 people maybe have 6 mugs? Perhaps a small table to put the kettle on so that it is well clear of the electric hob? For our three night stay it would have been handy to have more than 3 dishwasher tablets and 1 loo roll. We hope to return

A relaxing atmosphere and good location for visiting about the area. Lodge provided everything we needed and we had a friendly welcome.

The Lodge is just as it's pictured: really lovely and comfortable and very clean and welcoming. The surrounding gardens and lake are very picturesque; so well-maintained and looked after. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to sit out in the sun every day. The fishing was good and greatly enjoyed. The owner made us feel very much at home and we were sad to leave. We hope to return next year for another stay in this beautiful, peaceful location.

Fisherman's Lodge was a great place to stay, we liked it so much that we were sad to leave. We enjoyed walking around the farmland and surroundings and even picked blackberries in November! The owner was a lovely person and we appreciated the way they manage their farm to encourage wild life. There was a very welcoming pub in nearby Arkesden serving good food and beer.

As soon as you drive up to the property you know you are in for a treat. The property is on a mainly arable farm, but the owners do have loads of chickens. There are free eggs in the fridge on your arrival. We were shown to our property by the owner's daughter who was very friendly and even gave us directions to local supermarkets where we could get supplies. Fisherman's Lodge is well furnished and has lenty of space to relax in, with the grounds to the front and side open for exploring. The lovely mature trees provide suitable cover for the wildlife that comes to visit, Grey squirrels, Wood Pigeons, Moorhens etc. Fisherman's Lodge is brilliant as it is in an area with no street lights, so views of the stars are great, if you can keep your eyes open long enough after busy days sight seeing nearby. There are Geese that chap on the windows with their beaks looking for tasty bits of bread or they will take jenny long legs trapped in spider webs. Look out for the wonderfully friendly dogs on site. Pepper came to visit us every day, he is such a sweet dog, he never barked once and really made us wantto bring him home. My husband is a big toughy, but when we left he was seen to be wiping his eyes quite a bit. The area round about is excellent, Saffron is super, the market on Saturday is brilliant. The fruit and veg stand was out of this world, very reasonably priced for great produce. The Bread stand - well, just stand and drool before deciding on what you are having. Cambridge is only 10 miles or so away, so well worth a visit. Do take the Park and Ride, it is much easier than trying to get a parking spot in town. We visited the RAF Museum at Duxford during our visit and were not disappointed. Thanks for a great stay and we would have loved to have stayed longer and bring Pepper home with us.

My husband & 9 year old son had a wonderful stay at Fisherman's Lodge over the May bank holiday. Their main reason for the stay was to use the fishing lake and they were not disappointed at the amount of carp they caught. Sitting in a bivvy on a Sunday morning watching the wildlife was not a chore! The quaint cottage sits in beautiful gardens overlooking the lake and the friendly dogs love a fuss. Fisherman's Lodge is set in a beautiful part of East Anglia. My husband and son can't wait for their next fishing trip!

Hosts very friendly and helpful. The lodge was both clean and comfortable. A slight problem with the fridge was sorted out in record time!! The complementary eggs were a nice surprise and very tasty. The fishing was excellent.

It was very clean and tidy. We found it very peaceful and a great place to relax. We were given some free range eggs from the farm which was very thoughtful. Would definitely recommend this place.
