Reviews

The photos do not do the living room justice; it is super bright and airy. The kitchen is well equipped and the sofa and beds are really comfortable. The garden area is large, well-maintained and there was a basketball hoop and a football and rugby ball in the garden for anyone visiting to use. It was well situated for trips to Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Skenfrith castle and there were nice local walks too. The sky at night was beautiful too with great views of all the stars. The owners were so friendly and concerned to make sure we had a good time. I'd happily stay here again :).

Four of us stayed for two nights in the Riverside Barn, we had a fitness event in Crickhowell and the location was perfect being just 10 minutes drive away. Prior to arriving we received full instructions on access to the property, our arrival was smooth and a very easy process. The owner came to introduce himself, showed us around and gave us advice on places to eat and the local area. He was so friendly and said if we needed anything just ask. The barn was very clean, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend and would visit again.

We arrived on Friday afternoon, previously given full information on how to find the farm and enter the barn. All good. The setting for the barn is idyllic, very close to the main farmhouse and with beautiful trees and fields to the rear of the barn. The barn itself is openplan, kitchen lounge and dining room all in one high vaulted room. I believe it was the dairy. Everything is furnished and accessorised to a high standard. There are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a small games room downstairs. Upstairs via quite a steep staircase is a huge room with twin beds. All very comfortable. Simon, our host came to check we were all settled in, and then kindly found us a bigger pan from the house to cook our chilli for dinner. He also showed us a summer house by the patio with extra fridge and freezer space. Gilwern is between Crick Howell and Abergavenny and we visited both towns during our stay. lovely independent shops. These are NOT complaints but just points to note. One bedroon has only a stable door with a window. this has no curtain. Dawn was early in June and the light flooded the bedroom. I used an eyemask the second night - all good. Sitting outside for most of our meals and chatting we got bitten by little flies. It happens, its the countryside! But have some repellent if it bothers you. To make this place perfection, another toilet would have been useful and with 5 of us it needed planning to shower and get out in the morning. the barn has only 1 bathroom. We are all thinking of returning to this lovely place.

The location was beautiful, especially at this time of year (early May) with the surrounding fields full of wild flowers, the river close by and a back drop of hills/mountains. We had a long weekend and enjoed local walks around the farm and the more strenous 4 waterfalls walk in the Brecon Beacons, which were stunning. We also managed to fit in a trip into Abergavenny (we didn't have to hope the weather was fine - it was glorious!) and we had a lovely meal in the Bear Hotel, in the picturesque town of Crickhowell. The cottage had absolutely everything you could need and the owners could not have been more helpful. I would certainly return - so much we didn't have time to fit in. Really worth the trip.

Roverside Barn was amazing, very spacious even with 6 adults sharing, we all had an amazing time. The games room was a great asset. Location was perfect for roaming around the Beacons.

Rated by Mrs Maddern reviewed on 2nd March 2016

We have been told by the owners that they would be around to greet us and that the barn would be open, but when we arrived at the property in the dark and cold aroudn 5 pm no one was around, the doors were locked and no one could be reached on any of the phone numbers we had. We had repeadetly tried to access the property and tried to reach the owners and finally gave up and left at around 9 pm. I find it horrifiying that anyone would leave a young family in the cold and dark for so long. We finally received a text with the key location at 0.40 am. I have no idea what the owners have been thinking that we would still hang around this late. For a first trip with our 4 month old, it could not have been a more horrible experience. Good that she won't be able to remember!

Liked the space in the cottage and the surroundings - there was plenty of outside space and a ride on tractor for the grandson. Enjoyed being able to walk to the river. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. There were excellent parking facilities and it was well equipped inside. It was very quiet, wonderful, in fact!

This is a fantastic open-plan cottage that has lovely furnishings. The kitchen is very well equipped and the owner starts you off with a pint of milk, tea, coffee sugar and a cake. There are also fresh flowers in the room. The three bedrooms, 2 doubles and a twin room upstairs, offer very comfortable beds and the location is great for getting around to enjoy the sites in South Wales. A car is necessary but the parking is free and secure. Very quiet, beautifully furnished and excellent service from the owner, who is on hand if you need them but are also happy to leave you alone to enjoy your break. Would definitely recommend and will come back. The WiFi is also very good.

A spacious and quiet place, which had been decorated appropriately for Christmas, and was immediately welcoming. The owner was also very helpful. A walk across the frosty fields to the River Usk on Christmas morning gave us a good appetite!

There was a warm welcome with Welsh cake And fresh scenting flowers We loved the open plan kitchen/living room with the well equipped kitchen. Our boys loved to play with the Knex And the air hockey table in the play room. The area has lots to offer for families from nice days out in the Brecon Beacons national park (we also loved the short walk to the waterfall from the parking place along the Roda, just past the Tallybont reservoir, a visit to Cardiff tubing in festival parc, visit to the national showcaves and big pit.

This was an excellently located cottage in pristine condition and all amenities were in perfect condition. The hosts were very friendly and made us feel totally at ease. The 90 acres of ground along with the stream and tree swing was an added bonus to what can only be described as perfect.

We loved; the beautiful countryside nearby, the easy access to local facilities, the views from the windows and the quality of the furniture, bedding and kitchenware etc.

The site is beautiful, quiet and very secure, and extremely friendly and helpful owners. We were made to feel so welcome. The accommodation was immaculate and really well set out with an excellent finish and nice furniture and decor throughout. There was plenty of parking available and some really thoughtful little touches were in place by the owners. All that could be heard was the birds singing and the river water running close by - a perfect relaxing space for everyone.
