An absolutely delightful Grade II listed terraced cottage, built around 1810, in the hamlet of Ravensdale, set overlooking a winterbourne stream and valley on the outskirts of the pretty village of Cressbrook in the Peak District National Park. Beautifully appointed throughout to provide cosy accommodation, bursting with charm, this cottage is the perfect romantic retreat in this beautiful, seemingly remote Peak District setting. At this quirky cottage you will find lovely tiled floors, interesting original features and a character woodburning stove to light after a busy day of exploration. This is a great base to just relax and soak up the character of this mill workers cottage, where you are surrounded by beams and lovely mullioned windows, and can enjoy a pretty, modern en-suite bedroom with ornamental fireplace. Outside is a delightful little garden with split-level patio, surrounded by lovely planted areas and overlooking the stream, the limestone crag and the valley; a perfect spot for a drink at any time of the day! Ravensdale is located on the edge of Cressbrook, in the White Peak, where the River Wye joins Cressbrook Dale after flowing through some lovely gorges. The village lies just north of the Monsal Trail, which is a short walk from the cottage door. Cressbrook Dale is a National Nature Reserve with some species of rare flowers to be found off the beaten track. Closer to home, you can watch ravens on the crag from the cottage garden, and if you are lucky, you may see peregrines soaring high above the valley. Ravensdale appears to be remote, tucked away down a narrow single track lane, in a peaceful hidden valley, surrounded by woodland and an imposing limestone crag. Yet close to your cottage is the pretty village of Litton with an excellent pub serving food, while a little further afield is Tideswell, home to the Cathedral of the Peak and some wonderful little shops, including a butcher, a baker and a pharmacy. Plenty of places await discovery including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall and the two market towns of Buxton and Bakewell. Both towns have a good selection of shops and excellent restaurants and you can even take a container and fill it with real Buxton water, direct from St Anne's Well. All in all, a wonderful Peak District cottage to enjoy at any time of the year.
Cressbrook is a village on the River Wye, home to a mill built in the 18th century by Richard Arkwright. A footpath upstream of Cressbrook Mill leads to Water-cum-Jolly, a river gorge with limestone cliffs ideal for walking and rock climbing. Cressbrook is on the Monsal Cycle Trail and there is also a good pub in the nearby village of Litton, which serves food. Tideswell, Bakewell and the Spa town of Buxton are all within easy reach.
Solid fuel heating provided by the owners next door (guests have individually controlled radiators in the cottage) with woodburning stove. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, 2 x TVs with FreeSat (one Smart TV), DVD, WiFi, selection of books and games. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 1 car at the rear of the property. Rear, split-level patio with furniture, BBQ and external WC (not available in winter). Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 2 miles. Note: Rear garden has 6 steps and there are 3 original stone steps to access the cottage from the front. Note: The stairs to the first floor are steep and narrow, with a twist at the bottom, making the lower treads triangular in shape. There is a hand rail, but care does need to be taken when going up and down the stairs. Note: Check-in 4pm. Note: No infants or children allowed thank you.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers and wooded dales.
The cottage was in a very peaceful area, so after a day sight seeing and visiting it was a lovely haven to return to.
The cottage was in a beautiful, secluded location surrounded by hills and woodland. There were superb walks straight from the door but also plenty of places to visit within easy reach. The cottage itself was very well equipped, picturesque and had loads of charm.
We liked the peace and quiet and the cleanliness of the property.
A superb cottage: well-placed for walking in the area; fantastic kitchen facilities; and a wonderfully comfortable bedroom and bathroom. The owner was friendly and helpful on arrival and we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing long weekend in the heart of the Peak District.
An idyllic place to stay with such a wonderful atmosphere. We had a wonderful welcome from the owner and liked the beautiful, peaceful setting.
73 Ravensdale Cottages is a lovely, quaint holiday cottage in a beautiful, secluded setting. We particularly enjoyed the peace and quiet, opening the windows and hearing only birdsong and the sound of the stream in the bottom of the valley. There are walks from the front door and many more a short distance away. Our host was welcoming, helpful and informative. We had a great holiday and have returned home feeling refreshed and energised!
Our stay could not have been better in any way. The wood burning stove was a highlight and it really made an already-cosy cottage the ultimate hideaway from the wind and rain.
We rented 73 Ravensdale Cottage for the Christmas period; we did the same last year and have also stayed at the cottage in the warmer months. I will admit that selfishly I would rather keep it to myself but that just wouldn't be right. The lovely, cottage owners who live next door with their two moggies Picasso and Yanto, have a knack of ensuring that all needs are met without making you feel that they are intruding. The cottage itself is awesome. No cell phone reception but great internet access which for us is exactly what we want. Open fire, Smart TV, corner bath, no through road. Cosy just does not cover it. Ravensdale is located on a live walking route which is ideal for us. We would either go out for a good 10 miler or we would satellite out to local villages and pubs. Bring a head torch if you visit in the winter months. If you like to get away from the rat race on occasion and like a bit of walking with a cosy base to come back to then have a look at Ravensdale. Oh and the only negative is that we cannot live there permanently.
We had a fantastic holiday at 73 Ravensdale Cottages and were able to escape it all and relax! Owner was very friendly and around to help if needed. Walks from the cottage would suit any ability. We had a great time!
73 Ravensdale Cottage, is in a lovely setting and area, very quiet with an excellent wood burning stove.
Had a very lovely stay; a secluded and peaceful location and charming cottage. There were beautiful walks.
The cottage was so isolated and peaceful, and among very unique settings, yet not too far from towns like Bakewell and Buxton. The back yard was very cute, although due to the rain we weren't able to enjoy it. Wish we could have stayed longer. It is very close to the Monsal trail which is amazing for walking/cycling.
A lovely quirky cottage that harks back to the early 19th century with modern day facilities. It sits in the lea of a crag used by climbers who can be watched from the canopied seating area outside the back door. The owners make you feel welcome and are full of information about the area.
The fact that the cottage was in quite a remote location made our stay very relaxing. The history of the property was also very interesting. We enjoyed exploring places nearby and walking in the countryside.
Abolutely loved it! It was such a pretty little place and it made my life dream come true for a week! We had such a good time, in a great private location surrounded by such beautiful countryside!
Ravensdale Cottage is set in the most beautiful location! So secluded and quiet yet not too far from amenities. The Cottage was absolutely perfect, we had everything we needed. It was brilliant to be so close to the Monsal Trail and other fabulous walks. Such a lovely break away perfect for a romantic break. We hope to be back soon. Many thanks to the lovely landlord.
We were made to feel very welcome in this delightful cottage with everything that we needed. We enjoyed lovely walks in the area
The cottage was very well equipped and very cosy. Despite the weather we enjoyed a very relaxing few days. The location is quiet but not remote and there is easy access to lots of good local walking.
Comfortable, cosy interesting cottage set in very peaceful surroundings. On one of our favourite round walks and access to several others without using the car. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable owner who was there if needed. Good food at the George in Tideswell on the round walk through Cressbrook/Tansley/Tideswell/Miller's Dales.
Very nice welcome by the cottage owner. It's a lovely Cottage with light, sympathetically designed interior and all modern conveniences. An extremely peaceful and quiet location surrounded by woods and dramatic limestone cliffs. We literally could not hear a thing except for the ravens. Overall a wonderful and restful experience. Would recommend to friends and family.
The Cottage provided all the warmth and comfort needed for a very relaxing holiday in the heart of beautiful countryside.
A beautiful cottage and location with friendly owners; perfect.
Excellent accommodation, highly recommended. Owners made us very welcome.
The cottage was in an excellent location for walkers as you could step out the door and go in any direction to pick up a footpath. We were close to the Monsal Trail and again this proximity meant we hardly needed to use the car all week, except for food shopping and a trip to Chatsworth House we didn't. The Owner was very welcoming and informative about the cottage explaining where everything was and also the history. And most of all it was quiet and peaceful - so very relaxing.
A gem of a little holiday cottage, just right for two people, located in a wooded valley near Cressbrook Mill. We loved the peace and tranquility of the location and the fact that you could just walk out from the cottage into stunning countryside (the Monsal Trail is just 'down the road'). The cottage was well equipped, and the owners who live next door, were extremely welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed sitting out under a small covered seating area on the terrace in the evening watching the ravens nesting up on the crag. For those that like to combine outdoor activities with sightseeing, the cottage is well placed to enjoy the delights of the Peak District.
