The charming village of Otterburn is nestled near to the banks of the River Rede, between the hills and moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley, and was once the scene of the illustrious Scots triumph over the English in 1388. It is on a number of well-traveled routes for bicycles and provides excellent options for walking. Nearby attractions include Hadrian's Wall, the lovely Kielder Forest and Lakes, which offer wonderful opportunities for horseback riding, nature watching, and fishing in a stunning, serene setting. Otterburn had had a thriving weaving industry, and the village's past is commemorated by the internationally renowned Otterburn Mill. A popular 18-hole golf course is located in the nearby town of Bellingham, which was primarily constructed from local stone and slate. Bellingham also has a few bars, shops, and tea rooms. Visit the magnificent stately residences Wallington Hall and Cragside, which are close by, or the charming market town of Alnwick, which is only 40 minutes away and has a magnificent castle and gardens. Otterburn is an excellent destination for a restful holiday any time of year.
