We decided to go away for Christmas this year and booked Quarry House from 23rd to 27th. We took our too (old ladies) with us and planned taking them for walks instead of seeing family and cooking turkey (just for a change). We took one present each to give on Christmas morning followed by a big breakfast. We bought all our food on Christmas eve then settled in for a few relaxing, peaceful days.. Quarry House and the location did not disappoint. It was warm, cozy and very inviting. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and every cupboard, drawer, wardrobe, room had everything you could want or may need for the stay. On arrival there was a lovely card and a bottle of wine on the table from Jan and shortly after she popped in to see if we needed anything or had any questions. The garden and surrounding area was gorgeous even in Winter and we had some lovely walks with the dogs although very short ones because of their age. The wood burner kept us even toastier than the house already was and we enjoyed filling up with logs and coal from the sheds, it made a change from turning the rads on at home. We filled up all the bird feeders and watched as most of the wildlife turned up including squirels and pheasants that collected all the fallen nuts and seeds. Jan decorated the house for Christmas which was a lovely touch and it was just like being at home. Although we couldn't have asked for more and we had everything we needed and wanted, we did however discover that we missed Christmas and everything that we escaped from.. In a way we think Quarry House and all its charm and peacefulness made us appreciate all the madness of Christmas and we would probably go for a summer holiday in the future. Absolutely fab time though. Thanks Jan. Dave and Nina

My husband and I visited Quarry House with our two hounds. We experienced the most relaxing week we have had in a long time. The cottage is wonderfully snug and relaxing. The owners provide a real home from home environment with a real country cottage feel. With under floor heating and a wood burner to ensure you are warm and cosy. The real bonus for us was the wraparound garden and attached paddock. Our two energetic hounds were in heaven. The location of the cottage is perfect for dogwalking. The views from the garden are lovely and so peaceful. We have definitely decided to return.

This cottage was everything we was looking for. In a peaceful and quiet location with a large garden and grounds for our children and the dogs. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you need. We had a food delivery the morning we arrived and this was all put away for us by the owners before we got there. A very nice touch. The beds were very comfortable with lovely bedding. The views are stunning and the walks nearby are great. The owners allowed our children to feed their horses which was a big highlight for them. Lots of things to do nearby. We had some lovely days out but also lovely relaxing days at the cottage enjoying the garden. The wood burning stove in the lounge was lovely when we had one chilli evening. We look forward to returning again in the future.

We stayed at Quarry House for a weekend getaway. It is beautiful, clean and well equipped. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated, with modern features which compliment the property's historic charm. The delicious (and gluten-free) cakes provided by Jan (the owner) were an unexpected bonus! She made sure everything was ready for when we arrived. The property has excellent views over the surrounding countryside, which is ideal for walking, or you can just stay in the cozy lounge in front of the wood-burning stove. We will definitely stay here again.

Quarry House is in a beautiful setting with beautiful gardens and the cottage had a lovely homely feel.

We stayed in thus property with our two golden retrievers. The wraparound garden was great for them, and the extra pasture was a bonus. Loved the underfloor heating. The cakes made by the owner was a real treat.

Quarry House was one if not the best equipped we have ever stayed in. Lovely warm, cosy and quiet. Fabulous views made even better by the weather being very kind to us. We only stayed for a couple of days but wished it was longer and will hopefully return in the future. Property owner was friendly and helpful. Dog friendly with the downstairs under floor heating a luxury treat for two tired Border Terriers after a days walking.

Everything about our stay at Quarry House was first class. The refurbishment was stunning and it was such a lovely area to visit. Our dogs loved the secure garden and the use of the paddock next door was an added bonus. We look forward to returning sometime in the not too distant future.

We could not fault the cottage, it was love at first sight!

Although a late review, Quarry cottage couldn't have provided a better place for us and our dogs to stay: large secure garden, walks from the door and a pub, albeit at the bottom of the hill. The cottage itself was well equipped and very cozy. Excellent week had.

A beautiful cottage in a quiet and rural location.

Rated by Mrs Reynolds reviewed on 5th September 2015

We absolutely loved the cottage; it met all of our expectations of a beautiful old cottage with wooden beams, combined with a modern day touch. We loved everything but especially the 'Jack and Jill' bathrooms, the comfortable beds and the stunning countryside views. The rural setting was lovely and peaceful yet only a 10 minute drive from Alton Towers for some theme park madness when required.

We have just arrived home from Quarry House and will definitely be booking for next year. The cottage is simply beautiful, with stunning gardens and views. The location was perfect for us as a family; we had the benefit of a quiet, peaceful area with lovely countryside walks, whilst being able to get in the car and arrive at Alton Towers within 10 minutes. Next time, I am planning on experiencing a little more of the local history as there are some lovely old houses/ national trust places nearby! The owner was very nice and extremely welcoming; as far as amenities were concerned, she had thought of everything. The cakes on arrival were delicious! Due to the range of games available, my 11 year old son is now a monopoly enthusiast, to the point where we even purchased an Alton Towers copy! Overall, the cottage was homely, comfortable and renovated perfectly with a balance of modern and authentic features, which we loved. We really couldn't fault our stay and would highly recommend Quarry House for people of all ages. We WILL be booking again shortly!

The house was characterful, beautifully finished and comfortable. The gardens were immaculate, not to mention fully enclosed and secure for the dogs, and we were lucky enough to get a couple of warm, sunny days in which to sit out and enjoy it (the hammock was an additional nice touch!) It was in such a beautiful setting on the edge of a really peaceful wooded valley, with endless walks from the door.

Rated by Mrs Edwards reviewed on 24th June 2015

This charming cottage had plenty of outside space. It was very well equipped with everything we needed, and more. The bed sheets were really high quality and a real luxury. The location was perfect as a base for exploring local attractions and countryside and the owner of the cottage goes the extra mile to help ensure guests feel welcome and are comfortable.

There is no doubt that Quarry House is in a lovely village and has great views. However our experience of staying here was very disappointing. The weather was chilly and wet for almost al of our stay. The house was cold on arrival, the underfloor heating set to come on at 4.30pm, we arrived at 4pm. The heating takes an absolute age to come on and the Rayburn/heating/water heating system in the dining room was incredibly noisy. Thermostats in the rooms were locked at a low temperature and could not be altered. The owner apparently altered the setting the next day at our request but quite honestly we could not tell the difference. The only saving grace was the woodburner in the lounge which kept us warm. Had it not been for that I think we would have left. The fridge needed defrosting badly - our eggs froze by the second day. Items of crockery were chipped, a mug was so tea stained I had to bleach it. There was a filthy radio in the kitchen, old sauce bottles, bits of food etc left in the cupboard by previous guests. All in all the downstairs of this place was very disappointing. The upstairs however was very nice; comfortable beds and good bed linen. Nice Jack and Jill shower room but irritating do and don't signs everywhere are not conducive to a feeling of being made welcome, comfort or relaxation. We had friends staying with us for the first two nights and they too were very surprised this place had been rated 5 ticks.

In beautiful surroundings. Accommodating owner and despite living in the house down the lane left us to enjoy our holiday but was available if we needed assistance. The standard of accommodation was excellent and the top quality bedding, towels and kitchen accessories were really appreciated. Thanks for a great holiday.

Quarry House provides a lovely, tranquil base for exploring many beautiful areas of the Peak District. The location and Quarry House itself are both perfect. Very pet friendly and exceptionally clean with all mod-cons. Our week spent here went all too quickly but we hope to return before too long. Highly recommended.

A great mix of old and tasteful modern conveniences. Very thorough and thoughtful owner with regard to the properties cleanliness, décor, and comforts. Had a very pleasant stay.

A beautifully renovated cosy, warm cottage. In a great location if you like the quiet countryside.

We found our holiday most relaxing, the cottage had everything we needed. It was peaceful and quiet, a lovely warm cottage. We would recommend Quarry House to anyone who would like a quiet holiday. Loved the log fire, thank you.

Rated by Mrs Harvey reviewed on 3rd February 2015

A top quality cosy cottage in a super, peaceful location. It was everything as described and more.

Rated by Mrs Lainchbury reviewed on 25th January 2015

The cottage was sympathetically and tastefully decorated throughout. Rooms were spacious and very clean throughout. The location was scenic and remote enough in a peaceful hamlet, but near enough to other local amenities if required. The welcome and exchange in communications with the owner were always very professional and friendly.

Rated by Mrs Crowther reviewed on 31st December 2014

The rural, quiet location. Plenty of logs for the fire and the stove lit so easily. The properly fenced garden so that the dog cannot escape. Aga cooking and a very comfortable bed . The choice of dog friendly pubs in the area.

Rated by Mr De Wolf reviewed on 29th November 2014

We liked everything about our stay. The owners have thought of it all. Not once did we say "oh if only we had remembered to bring" because if we needed they had already provided it. From dressing gowns and slippers to walking boots. The beds were very comfortable and there were loads of pillows and towels.

Rated by Foord reviewed on 8th November 2014

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend at Quarry House with a friend and her partner. It is such a beautiful house and the beds are extremely comfortable!! On arrival we noticed that we had all the provisions we needed - tea bags, coffee, milk, sugar… the important stuff ;-) The owner had also made us a cake – which was delicious and they provided us with an information pack with lots of things to do. Alton Towers is a 15 minute drive away which is a bonus. We will definitely go back for another peaceful weekend away.

Rated by Mr Brain reviewed on 11th October 2014

This cottage is in a wonderful setting, very peaceful with lots of good walks without the need to drive. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The cottage was immaculate on our arrival. I cannot recommend this cottage too highly; the renovation work is outstanding - retaining character with all the modern conveniences.

The location is stunning and Quarry House sits in an accessible yet secluded setting. The owners have thought of everything one might need whilst you are on your holiday. A home away from home.

A wonderful guest house we have stayed in many and this is by far the best. Everything we could have needed was here and nothing was too much trouble. Great location. We will hopefully be back. Many thanks!

Comfortable cottage with tasteful and immaculate décor, peaceful and secluded location with easy access to beautiful countryside. Friendly welcome from owner. Very happy with the cottage and overall efficient service from Sykes cottages.

Rated by Ms Manning reviewed on 16th August 2014

We all loved the cottage. It is beautiful on the outside and on the inside it continues to delight with everything you could need for a short break. The location is perfect - quiet and yet very close (5 minutes) to the national park and to Alton Towers (7 minutes) for example. It was important to us that our dog could saunter around the garden without the danger of escape! The property was very well enclosed and so this made us all relax very quickly. Our host, lived very close and was a pleasure to meet. She clearly wanted to make our stay everything it could be! We had a great time and recommend this property in every way.

Rated by Hall reviewed on 3rd August 2014

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, beautiful gardens, beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend everything about it. We took things we didn't need as they were provided - tea towels, washing up liquid, soap powder, hair dryer. The owner had thought of everything!
