I stayed at 79 Laurel Bank in Gatehouse of Fleet from 21-26 June with my granddaughter and great grandson. The house is spacious and bright with a back garden. However I would like to point out some things which need improvement. 1. There were no more toilet rolls or bin liners. 2. Only one tea towel. 3. The hoover wasn't emptied. 4. My 4 year old nephew was covered in dog hair when he rolled about on the floor, and we found dog hair underneath the couch. 5. The beds were far too soft. I slept downstairs on the couch some nights because I had backache and the couch provided a firmer support. 6. There were no instructions for any appliances, eg. Cooker, heating. 7. A welcome pack would have been appreciated. We did enjoy our stay there because we could visit our sister in the town and go on walks. The house was in a good location and plenty big enough for 4 of us My granddaughter liked it too.
Lovely spacious house, comfortable spotless and well appointed. Situated in a beautiful location and an excellent centre for touring the area. Very highly recommended!
We had a lovely three-night stay in Laurel Bank. We had originally booked for March, but the day we were meant to set off was during the worst of the snow the UK saw this year! We couldn’t make the 6 hour trip from Hertfordshire through red weather warnings, but Sam was very understanding and allowed us to cancel at short notice and rebook at our next convenience with only a small cleaning fee to pay. We were so grateful, it would have been so disappointing otherwise. The cottage is a great size with two bedrooms, induction cooker, power shower, WiFi, Freeview and all the other amenities you could need. Someone mentioned on here that they didn’t like the way the kitchen came off the end of the hallway but we found it nice and open. Everything was clean and the heating and hot water worked fine. We were really content. We walked along the coast at Mossyard, which was 10 mins drive away. We also had two lovely long walks in Galloway Forest Park, the better being from the Newton Stewart entrance. Gatehouse of Fleet itself is quiet and unassuming. We found it to be a great base to see the Scottish coast. Thank you so much Sam, we really enjoyed our stay. Steph & Simon
Spent a great week here . excellent accommodation everything you need for self catering.great kitchen and bathroom. Plenty hot water for bath & shower .beds very comfortable. Thanks for a great week .hope to book again for next year .jim & vera xx
The cottage was lovely, clean and welcoming. The bathroom was really nice with loads of hot water and the bedrooms were warm and spacious. The downstairs was a little disappointing as the living/dining room was a bit cramped and neither of us could work out how to use the oven and hob properly. It seemed very complicated and we coudnt find an instruction booklet. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have booked again for Easter 2017.
The best aspect of this cottage was the location. The cottage sits on the main road through the village, but it is still very peaceful. At the front it overlooks a grassy area and woodland and at the back a mill (converted to a visitor centre) and the river. The country aspect gave the cottage a tranquil feel, yet all the services were at hand. We especially liked the bus stop right outside as this allowed us to have some car free days. There are several good places to eat within a few minutes walk. The cottage is well equipped, clean and spacious. The bathroom has a great shower and plenty of hot water. We found the beds comfy and there was plenty of storage. The only things that it down were the downstairs layout, the kitchen feels like a corridor as it runs on directly at the end of the hall with no dividing door. The cooker and hob were quite complicated and we couldn't find any instructions. These were minor niggles though and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner is very helpful and pleasant. When we arrived we had a problem with the lock on the front door. The owner organised a joiner who came within fifteen minutes which was much appreciated. The garden is well maintained and we enjoyed eating dinner outside in the sunshine.
Perfect location, comfortable cottage, all local facilities at hand. Great walking area, local pubs with good food, tourist info, lovely beaches close by. Would definitely return to this property. Very helpful owners.
A lovely cottage to relax in after walking in the countryside. Very clean and comfortable. We would definitely recommend.
We have stayed in Gatehouse many times and know the area well. This was our first stay at the cottage and it won't be the last. It was well equipped clean and spacious. The cottage is very central in the village and there is plenty of either on street parking or the village car park opposite.
The location & amenities were excellent. Lots of wonderful walks within 800 metres of the cottage. The beach was just 5 miles away, the weather did help however, wall to wall sunshine the whole week. Gatehouse of Fleet was a lovely friendly town.
Cottage was freshly modernised, very clean and everything you needed for a weeks stay. It is well located in the centre of the village, within walking distance of shop, pubs, restaurants and park. It has a small back garden which was nice to sit and enjoy the sun.
The location both in the village and the area were ideal. The house was lovely; well equipped and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property.
