The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Cars are banned from the village, leaving visitors free to wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th Century houses. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
The site has a small swimming pool which you can book, although we found that other people ignored the booking system and turned up when it was supposed to be booked for us. The water was an ok temperature, but not warm (I was ok with it but some of the group found it cold). You can have a 45 slot once a day for three days out of a week's stay. Bring games etc as there is nothing in the pool to keep kids entertained, and note that the water is too deep for most kids to stand in so bring arm bands. Jubilee Cottage itself was a disappointment. The marketing on the website suggested a luxury cottage. However there are quite a few snagging things (broken blinds, broken wardrobe handles etc), the cottage was cold - in particular our bedroom (the one on the middle floor). I had to get an electric heater from the people managing the cottages. The bedroom was freezing until we got that. There is a downstairs loo, a shower room with loo on the top floor and a bathroom on the top floor. The cottage sleeps six people so that means one shower per six people. We had to queue up to shower. The water is a hot water tank system which means that if six people shower, the water runs out and the last showers are tepid. After cold wet winter walks I wanted a hot shower. All this adds up to it being a disappointment and not being the luxury cottage that the website claimed. There was one double bed, the other rooms are twins, we pushed our twin beds together. The cottage was quite clean and the kitchen had the standard stuff you'd expect. There is a washing machine in the cottage, and this was useful. When I asked about the temperature in the cottage the owners were quick to respond, and I suspect I am not the first person to question this. Our friends were staying in Bull pen which was warmer and had more showers, but also suffered from a lack of enough hot water
A comfortable spacious cottage which was well thought out. It was great for the family, having a pool and table tennis etc. In a peaceful location with walks on your doorstep.
