Whitby in North Yorkshire remains one of the regions most popular tourist hotspots, and with good reason. The town is at the mouth of the River Esk, and this old fishing port retains mush character in its winding streets and hidden alleys. There is a picturesque harbour, sandy beach and the famous Whitby Abbey. Close to other seaside destinations such as Scarborough, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby is also ideally placed for heading inland and exploring the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park.
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
We recently stayed as a group of 10 (6 adults and 4 children) The cottage itself is very large and spacious and is located in a very good area, it's about a 10 minute walk straight into the centre and is in a very quiet area. Overall we did have a lovely holiday, however I do think the cottage itself needs an upgrade and a good clean. On the advert is says that it has BBQ facilities, this isn't true, it has a very small and dirty BBQ that you could probably fit 2 burgers on, so I feel this should be removed or a new one put in place to cater for the large group bookings. There was one bed upstairs that we were unable to use leaving 2 adults on the sofa downstairs for the reminder 6 nights, so this could do with replacing. The bottom oven doesn't work, meaning we couldn't cook as planned. The outside area has so much potential but unfortunately hasn't been cleaned in quite some time, the slabs were covered in dirt and the chairs and tables hadn't been cleaned and also had no cushions on the wicker chairs meaning they were very uncomfortable and not fit for use. I think a little welcome pack from owners would be really good to have on arrival with some information about the area and the cottage itself. If all these things got addressed then I would definitely recommend to friends and family, however if not I'm afraid I'd say to look elsewhere.
Cottage is very clean and well equipped. It's a 15 minute walk from Whitby and set in a quiet area. The enclosed garden is good but could do with being a little more secure to stop small dogs from getting out through the gaps in the gate. We stayed as a group of 4 couples, a baby and 2 small dogs and everyone had enough space to relax.
What a great place to stay for a big group. The cottage is spacious, well equipped and the location is great for a family. The second sitting room is fantastic for the kids (and men!) diverting any clash of demands on the tv. The big table in the conservatory allowed us all to eat together as a group. We stayed during the Easter holidays so had no issues with the school next door. The cottage has access to great walks for the dogs and kids and provides a great base for many other attractions. Would definitely recommend this cottage for a large group.
In an excellent position for walking into Whitby. The cottage was excellent and provided everything we needed. Would recommend it to anyone.
Booked the 9 bed farm cottage for a group of friends while others in the party had their own mobile home in adjacent caravan site. The property was very spacious , comfortable, clean and well equipped. Some milk, tea & coffee left for us on arrival. (Strange though, no soap in bathrooms). The location was very good, on hill overlooking the town, just off the A171 near the new road bridge, and about 5 minutes walk into the centre. Little longer back, due to short but steep paved footpath. Ample parking. The cottage, along with some smaller units, is adjacent to Caedmon College - no problem with noise during school holidays but in term time might be different during the school day. Very easy to collect key from Garden Centre on approach to town. Master bedroom with en-suite was huge. It also had a cot and would still have had space for another double bed. Other rooms smaller with hanging space at a premium in some of them. Two very comfortable lounges, with TV, large kitchen diner, conservatory with large dining table and garden chairs and tables outside.
Outstanding accommodation with excellent and stylish furnishings. The next time I stay in Whitby will be in direct relation to availability of the Kingfisher or the associated cottages. One of the few times I have spent as much time in the accommodation as out and about due to the outstanding quality and home from home feeling.
We loved this traditional family holiday. Whitby was fabulous, as was the accommodation. We had everything we needed in the house and the underfloor heating was lovely. Will be booking for next year!
We liked the location of the cottage, there were 2 sitting room areas which meant that our 4 year old granddaughter could watch Peppa Pig dvds without all the adults having to watch it! We liked the big family sized table in the conservatory which meant we could eat together. We liked having 3 toilets and lots of fridge and freezer space. We liked the garden and the outdoor space
An ideal location and very spacious and clean accommodation.
The property was perfect for our large party including 3 children and 2 babies. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all a good a size with plenty of towels for everyone. The large farmhouse kitchen table was a bonus in the conservatory and could seat us all comfortably. The cottage is in a brilliant location, only a 15 min walk into the centre of Whitby. There was quite a slope to walk down & come back up but this wasn't a problem, even with our convoy of prams!
