Reviews

A real escape to the country, this old farmhouse offers an ideal location. It's just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a short drive from the Lake District National Park, and minutes from historic Kirkby Lonsdale. So there's a little bit of something for everyone, and a lot of spectacular scenery! Owners, Mal and Angie, live just up the road. They're charming hosts; they couldn't do enough to make our stay more enjoyable.

Handily located for the Western section of the Dales, only a short drive into Kirkby Lonsdale and then good access for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. Comfortable cottage with off road parking. Only reason that it doesn't get a 5 star is the lack of local walks from the door ( footpath opposite has a locked gate, difficult to access if you have a dog), a clothes horse would have been nice, there is a washer/dryer but not suitable for walking tops etc. Kitchen is a bit sparsely equipped, no scissors or baking tray and the smallest dinner plates I've ever seen. No instruction/welcome pack and no visitors book which personally I like to see.

It was exactly as described; very clean and organised, very well equipped and in excellent condition. It had a good shower, very helpful owners and a splendid small enclosed garden. It is in a nice quiet location. Really good value for money.

A lovely cottage located in beautiful countryside, with easy access to nice walks and to the local small town. The cottage was very clean and tidy with fully functioning facilities. The owners were very pleasant and responsive if we had any requests and clearly cared very much about the cottage.

This is the second time we have been to Fleshbeck Cottage. We love the peace and quiet and the fact we can take the dog. The setting is perfect and the views are amazing.

The period Cottage is cosy and has a fantastic fireplace, just perfect for those wintery evenings. This property is also dog friendly and is highly recommended.

Fleshbeck cottage is set in a lovely rural location. If you want peace and quiet and not to be disturbed, then this is the place. The cottage is comfortable and the fire stove is excellent and a real roaring fire can be enjoyed. The garden is lovely and you can sit outside comfortably and hear nothing but the birds.

Rated by Mr Dean reviewed on 30th March 2015

The surroundings are great. It's a perfect base to spend time in both areas; Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Kirkby Lonsdale is very nice village with a lot of facilities and nice shops. There is not much written about this village but it's definitely undervalued. The cottage is in a very good condition. We were very glad that pets were allowed. I can very recommend this cottage to anyone who likes to spend the holidays in a quiet neighbourhood.

Rated by Mr Vliegen reviewed on 5th January 2015

Cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Nice clean white bedding. Kitchen well equipped and clean. Nice walled garden, as we had a small dog with us. The cottage is set in lovely scenery - whichever way you look.

Had a lovely week, really happy with the cottage would certainly be more than happy to return.

Rated by Mrs Haynes reviewed on 10th May 2014

We thought that the cottage was very spacious and warm upon arrival. It was well equipped and we all enjoyed the powerful hot showers. We especially loved the character features in the cottage like the windows and the range/ fire in the living room. The cottage location is great for visits to the Lakes and Lancs/Yorkshire. It was good to have the fire starter pack until we got our bearings and found where to buy wood etc.

Location quite remote, but beautiful setting and great for dog walks straight from the door. Cottage is beautiful and well maintained and equipped. Much bigger than it looks in the photographs which don't do it justice! Was really comfortable and cosy. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again.

My partner and I along with our dog have just returned from a lovely stay at Fleshbeck Cottage. Although I have completed a review on the Sykes Cottages web site I wanted to ensure this place gets even more positive exposure! Although the weather wasn't particularly kind we still managed to enjoy our break. The cottage is set in a beautiful and tranquil location approximately 3 miles north of Kirkby Lonsdale, which is a lovely and charming market town. The cottage is tastefully decorated throughout and has a mix of modern and traditional. The bathroom has recently been upgraded and sports a lovely bath/shower. The kitchen is spacious and modern and is complimented with a separate dinning area. The living room is cosy and has a lovely range fireplace and although it rained we didn't need to use it. Both bedrooms were clean and tidy ensuring we had a good night's sleep. The location is ideal for the Lancashire coast, South Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. In addition there are several small market towns to visit close by. Sedbergh has a plethora of bookshops (good for a rainy day), Kikrkby Lonsdale plays host to some nice shops and eateries including the Orange Tree pub, complete with Local ales supplied by the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery, the Jingling Lane traditional Fish and Chip shop and The Caraid coffee shop, which like many places is dog friendly. Last but not least is the Kittridding Farm Shop, who supply a lot of local produce...I recommend their homemade chesse scones!! The owners of the cottage Mal and angie stopped by to ensure everything was ok. Hopefully 2014 will see us returning to the area.

Owners very friendly and helpful. Accommodation to a tasteful, high standard and well maintained. Kirkby Lonsdale is located approx 3 miles away and has various facilities i.e. shops, eating, pubs and walks around the River Lune / Lune Valley. The Orange Tree has a very good selection of local ales courtesy the Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery. I cannot review our holiday without a mention for the Jingling Lane Traditional Fish and Chip Shop....lovely! Overall we had a lovely week, and would like to return next year.

With the cottage being well-situated, it was easy to travel to a number of local destinations. The cottage also felt very modern and clean. Although we had no immediate neighbours, any people we met were very friendly. It was also very nice of the owners to pay us a visit to check that everything was to our satisfaction.

Rated by Mr Egan reviewed on 20th May 2013

We had a good relaxing break, in a quiet location. Liked the fact the owner only called once to check all was well. The pictures were good, but did not do the place justice. We will go back.

It was a home from home! Very cosy and quiet, very well equipped cottage and ideal, rural location.

Rated by Mrs Nichols reviewed on 22nd February 2013

Enjoyed the log fires. The location was great for Kirkby Lonsdale. The shops are very individual with nice things to buy and eat. The cottage is also handy for visiting the Lakes, 30 mins from Kendal.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 7th February 2013

This cottage ticks all the boxes. Two bedroom, log fire as well as central heating. Peaceful (apart from the odd tractor going past and a wierd generator-type noise from next door). Small but adequate bathroom with a really powerful shower. The only criticisms I have is that although it's fairly clean, it did smell of dog and there were dog hairs on the carpets in the living room and the double bedroom. There were also one or two on the bed which made me wonder if they had actually changed the sheets. The bed didn't smell of dog so maybe they were on someone's clothes whilst they changed the sheets. The owners have several properties to clean and I don't think that they gave themselves enough time before we checked in. Overall, I would stay here again because it had everything we needed and the location is really good because it's a convenient drive both to the Lakes and the Dales. Kirkby Lonsdale is a lovely town too. I might bring my own sheets and towels next time because they charge for bath sheets. (They do provide towels). Older travellers might like to know that the staircase has a lot of stairs and they are quite steep. This made it tough to carry our suitcases upstairs. My elderly mum had to get up several times to go to the toilet in the night and the bathroom door makes quite a loud clattering noise and it is tricky to close. It is a lovely old cottage so you have to expect these things with wonky floorboards. I found it quite charming but it's not for everyone.

Rated by Mrs Johnson reviewed on 30th July 2012

Fleshbeck Cottage was very homely and comfortable throughout. We have never had such a comfortable bed during a cottage holiday! The situation of the cottage was lovely and quiet. We had our reservations when we booked with it being semi-detached, but we didn't notice any noise from the adjoining property. The owner introduced himself and checked that everything was OK during our stay, which it was, no complaints whatsoever. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week which was enhanced by such a lovely 'home from home' cottage. We would definitely return for another holiday and would highly recommend it to friends and family. Thank you.

Stunning, secluded location, great views. Peaceful and quiet. Cozy and characterful cottage, comfortably furnished with some nice antique pieces to reflect the age of the property, very homely. Loved the fireplace and so did the dogs! Xmas tree and decorations were a lovely touch. Owners friendly and accommodating. Beautiful surrounding area with quaint villages and towns. Good pubs and tea rooms, very dog friendly area.

The location of this property is outstanding. It was exactly what we wanted for a short break. Only 5 minutes from Kirkby Lonsdale and 25 minutes from Kendal. We were also allowed to take our two dogs at a small extra fee of £10 for the second pooch. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family. The owners were very accommodating.
