The Old Stables is a conversion of a stable block within the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, three miles from Kirby Lonsdale, inbetween the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Park. This upside down cottage has three ground floor bedrooms, consisting of a twin room with en-suite shower room, another twin room with utility room off, and one double, as well as a ground floor family bathroom, which means this cottage sleeps six people. The first floor at this cottage contains a oak fitted kitchen and an open plan living room with separate dining area, woodburner and small balcony. Outside, this cottage has off road parking for two cars and a garden, seating area, garden furniture and BBQ. The Old Stables is a wonderful family cottage in a lovely area. Note: One well-behaved dog welcome.

Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval ‘Devil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
We were a family party of 12 staying in The Old Stables and Beckside Cottage for New Year. The Old Stables cottage was very quaint and quirky. The bedrooms, and the family bathroom in particular , were lovely and warm but the living area upstairs got a little cool at times, possibly because it was open plan. There was a wood burner, which we used, but it rapidly went through our fuel supplies and worked out quite expensive. I think a multi- fuel fire would be more effective. The property advertised towels included but we only had one small bath towel each ( approx 120 x 60 cm ). When I requested more towels I was questioned " for what purpose"!?!? We did get another 6 small towels to share between the 12 of us.At other rentals I have visited,I have always been supplied with a small towel bale of at least a large and medium bath sheet plus hand towel. We did enjoy our stay and would return, possibly in the summer months.
This property is described as having broadband wifi. It might, but it's hopeless and required us to visit Kirby Lonsdale to obtain internet access. So if you definitely need access to email and the web, don't choose this cottage.
Beautiful place to stay and I would highly recommend this peaceful, rural, setting. The 'Old Stables' was a great place to base a holiday and is conveniently situated with easy access to the M6, Lake District or Yorkshire Dales.
We really enjoyed our weekend at The Old Stables, beautiful place, quiet and peaceful with Kirkby Lonsdale only a stones throw away.
A fantastic house in a beautiful location with everything we could possibly want! Thanks so much!
The Old Stables is excellent, with everything we needed.
Location fabulous, wonderful rustic cottage which was ideal as a base for cycling and walking. We loved it the first time we stayed. Loved it this time too and will definitely be back. If I was to buy a cottage in this area, this would be the perfect cottage.
Fantastic location, peaceful but within easy reach of Kirkby Lonsdale. Beautiful cottage with stunning views and great parking.
We were a group of 4 in the cottage, it is a lovely place with a massive living room upstairs. It was always warm with the underfloor heating and open fire. The remote location was just what we wanted too.
The family LOVED The Old Stables and really enjoyed spending time in the beautiful airy sitting room. Everything they needed was there and they had a great stay.
The cottage was brilliant. The open plan living space was ideal for our family get together. Big comfy sofas for all the family. Ideal bedrooms for 3 couples. Nice outside space to relax in also. Good proximity to Kirkby Lonsdale and surrounding areas for walks and things of interest. Beautiful part of the world.
A beautiful property in lovely surroundings, perfect for a weekend away. Very close to Kirkby Lonsdale which is a lovely little town with some nice restaurants.
Nice and peaceful, well equipped property and good location for touring around both Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales.
Enjoyed the holiday very much. The Old Stables was a fantastic property in fantastic countryside. We would certainly book again.
Excellent property in a lovely location. We were lucky enough to have fabulous weather which enhanced a wonderful experience. The property was very well maintained, clean and the sitting/living room being upstairs with double doors leading onto a balcony was quite a novel experience. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants are within a 10 minute drive in Kirkby Lonsdale and there are plenty of lovely walks to be had if that's what you are looking for.
The Old Stables is in a peaceful and picturesque location. It is ideal for a relaxing holiday.
We loved the location. The house was great.
Beautiful cottage, we had a wonderful and relaxing stay, had everything we needed (helped that we already knew the area), owners were very nice. All 3 bedrooms were clean and comfortable, bathrooms were good. My 2 young children (ages 3 and 7) were very happy here and had lots to explore, especially in the garden.
Fabulous stay but did have to use the car every day, the property lacked up-to-date info on local attractions i.e places to walk, eat, see and do.
The location was excellent for walking and exploring a beautiful part of England. The Stables were special.
The house was fantastic.
A spacious, well appointed and well located cottage set in the Lune valley. Walk just a few yards down the road and you can see the Howgill Fells and the river Lune. Although located with a few other cottages it feels private, and the owners were very helpful and welcoming. We had a memorable holiday and would certainly consider staying again. Kirkby Lonsdale (a few miles away) has a good local supermarket and plenty of pubs/restaurants.
This is an ideal meet up with friends, the accommondation was excellent and an ideal place to do sightseeing of the area.
Lovely location, cottage great, but, finishing touches need a little more thought. Good shopping in Kirby Lonsdale, and great eating places. Some lovely places to explore around.
A lovely cottage and location with friendly people.
Quiet location, spacious cottage and lovely scenery on the doorstep. Very hospitable and helpful owners.
The Old Stables was central to a lot of walks in the area. The local farmers were very sociable and very helpful telling us of good walks nearby.
A fantastic property (even better than we thought it would be). Top quality furnishings/appliances etc. Really felt like home from the first day. A very peaceful and beautiful location. We would highly recommend staying here and will no doubt do so again ourselves.
2nd visit to The Old Stables and we weren't disappointed. The property is very comfortable and relaxing. It's in the perfect spot to go walking in both the Lakes and Dales. The owners were welcoming and there's a good amount of store cupboard essentials provided.
Very high standard of furnishings, superb location and good quality bathrooms. The surroundings were peaceful and Kirkby Lonsdale is a beautiful town with everything one could need.
We had the best New Year there! The owners had put a Christmas tree and decorations up, which made it really special. We weren't bothered by anybody which is always nice. The house is much nicer than we thought - so that was a nice surprise. The sound of the stream running at the back of the house was so relaxing and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Oh and the underfloor heating is amazing!
Stable Cottage is a lovely holiday home. Very comfortable and has every thing you need for a good holiday. The owners were very nice and welcoming. Set on a quiet country road but near to KirkbyLonsdale with its interesting shops and restaurants. We would certainly use Sykes Cottages again as they were extremely helpful when we were booking the cottage
This was a wonderful location, very homely and the addition of a fully dressed Christmas tree was wonderful. We had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend to others.
The owner was very helpful and the property was always warm and cosy. This was especially welcome after a day's damp walking around Ingleton. The cottage was located in a very peaceful setting and was ideal for us to be able to visit Lancaster University. We would not hesitate to use your company again as we found all your staff to be very helpful when booking the cottage especially as we did not want a normal seven day holiday - nothing was too much trouble.
The Stables was a very comfortable, well equipped place. There was plenty of room for the six of us. The layout would not suit all, with the living accommodation upstairs and bedrooms/bathroom downstairs. The views from the living area were very nice indeed. The location meant that families with young children would need to travel on very narrow roads for every need, and the roads were really the only options for walking as the footpaths went through fields with cattle with young. We had dogs so this was not ideal for them. The owner was helpful and obliging.
The accomodation is pleasant, a barn conversion ( with all the quirks that entails eg steps all over the place in the kitchen) situated a few miles down a one way road near the sublime unspoilt town of Kirby Lonsdale. The location is very good - you can get to the lake district in 40 mins, to the yorkshire dales in about the same time, and the local towns are very pleasnt. Loads of good pubs around !The countryside around the accomodation is lovely, but unfortunatly you cannot see it from the actual house because there is woodland all round the back, and the front faces a small coutyard shared with 3 other properties. The property has a balcony which is nice - not really big enough to sit out on although you can perch on a sill and drink your coffee/wine should you wish. There is a small garden, not instantly accessible from the kitchen and the steps - could be a hassle for young children/ eating out. Outdoor furniture is provided - it all looked a bit grubby to us and there was animal excrement on the grass so we didnt use it, mind you it was October and we were not really going to dine al freco. Inside is fairly cosy - we loved the underfloor heating especially in the main bathroom. Sometimes the large living area felt a touch chilly - had we been bothered we could have tried lighting the open fire - wood etc provided. We didnt bother ( just a note, other people obviously do , and there is a smell of smoke in the room - pleasant if you like it but might bother some - ashmatics perhaps ?). The beds are fairly comfortable. The ensuite is off a twin rather than the double room. Good storage. The third bedroom is fairly small and has the boiler room off , the washing machine is in there and it actually made our stuff more grubby than we put it in - so after 2 goes we didnt use it. I imagine it was just a glitch which can be sorted, but we didnt see anyone to tell about it. Everything else worked fine. Good provision of kitchen essentials. It was good value and we liked the space ( easily big enough for 6) and location so we would happily return.
First rate accommodation. A very good cottage in a beautiful location. One of the best we have stayed in.
The Old Stables is a lovely property in a great location with easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The living room and kitchen were of a great standard and all of the furnishings of good quality especially the comfortable sofas. Big plus having Sky TV. This property is really a 'home from home'.
The accommodation was roomy, and the settees comfortable. The area was quiet and peaceful.
Excellent cottage friendly owners, memorable stay beautiful walks in the dales and and the lake district.
Overall an excellent and pleasant property. So far with Sykes, we have never been disappointed.
Beautiful barn conversion, very peaceful, easy to reach the Dales and Lake District. Lovely fish and chips at Kirkby Lonsdale.
The property is in an excellent location for a relaxing holiday. Everything was of an exceptional standard. The owners were very welcoming.
The underfloor heating meant the cottage was warm and welcoming at all times. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Pleasantly quiet rural atmosphere for a short break and well placed for the Dales and Southern Lakes.
Unspoilt countryside on your doorstep. Ideal centre to visit not only Lake District but the North Yorkshire Dales which remain "undiscovered" by holiday makers and are just as spectacular in their own way. Ideal local town centre of Kirkby Lonsdale.
This was an exceptional property. We loved the sofas and the log fire.
Location was peaceful and away from it all. Well placed to reach either the Lakes or the Dales for a day out. Plenty to do in surrounding areas. Felt at ease and at home straight away. Would rebook and recommend.
Super week.
Lovely roomy property in delightful location. Excellent food at The Sun Inn, Kirkby and also The Barbon Inn, Barbon.
The Old Stables was lovely - clean, very comfortable and well equipped. In fact, it was one of the best places I've stayed.
Very happy at the property and hope to go there again.
This was a delightful property, warm, clean and welcoming. It really felt like a home. Many thanks, we had a great break.
A fantastic house, it was home from home. We didn't have to worry about a thing and the owners were very nice and very helpful.
The property is a great place for a family get together! Kirby is a beautiful little town. We have been coming to the property for a number of years and we love the situation.
A good property in a nice quiet location.
The house is really nice, especially the open plan main room with very large windows.
The high standard of the property and its quiet location, combined with its proximity to the delightful town of Kirkby Lonsdale, with its excellent shopping and walks. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property, which was well-restored and well-equipped. Pleased with the customer service we received from you - pre-departure email with walk, and this follow-up. We would be happy to use your company again.
The warmth and friendliness of the owners, who are exactly the sort of people one wants and needs in a holiday situation. They were attentive, understanding yet not overbearing. The property is a very pleasant conversion and very suited to the area: together, property and owners made this an excellent break. We look forward to booking with Sykes in the future.
Dramatic Scenery. Great for relaxation. Very hospitable owners.
It was lovely to have a warm, comfortable cottage to return to at the end of the day.
Windermere cruises are well worth a visit, we had a great time on the lake and visiting the Aquarium.
It was very pleasant by the river...the children and dog enjoyed exploring the area, with the bats making an interesting feature. Overall we had a very relaxing time and would certainly hope to visit again.
Furnished and decorated to a high standard. We would visit again and recommend it to others.
...a relaxed and pleasing environment with no pressures so we could just be ourselves and chill out! The area was excellent and within easy reach of The Lakes as well. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all the party, we just wish it could have been longer.
