The world famous Dunvegan Castle is also well worth a visit, as is Skye's only Distillery at Talisker. Beautiful, cosy, cottage in a fantastic location. Everything here to make visitors welcome. Great communication with owner. Would definitely recommend.
This property was absolutely disgusting when we arrived. Black mould in every room, broken mirrors and pictures, cheese under the bed and not to mention the constant flies, dead and alive throughout the property. The beds in the twin bedroom are extremely uncomfortable and There are some serious health and safety issues here, mainly windows not being able to open and a detached string used to tie the blind back in bedroom two. There was nowhere to hang clothes in bedroom two. The dirt down the side of the bed was awful, the shelf in the bathroom was hanging off the wall, the fridge needed cleaned before we could use it, a washing machine is provided but there is no tumble dryer or airing screen to hang up washing to dry. I have photographs of all the issues we came across on our stay and I am happy to share these with anyone before they make a booking. I do not recommend this property to anyone, save your money and enjoy a holiday in a nice clean cottage.
This is my second time staying at Amber’s Cottage - I had to come back!! The cottage is absolutely lovely, spotless condition, comfortable and quaint. There are wonderful touches to the decor, accentuating the traditional Scottish feel of the place. We spent a lot of our time out and about but it was so wonderful to come back to the cosy cottage. As it’s October, the sun set at around 5pm and we loved returning to the warmth of the cottage to cook together, relax and watch TV, and play board games. The TV reception was spot on, and we had great phone signal and data (NOT THAT YOU COME TO SKYE TO SIT ON YOUR PHONE THE WHOLE TIME). We wandered down to the beach which was roughly a 10 minute walk away and you can see it from the window. The views are incredible. We will 100% be returning to Amber’s Cottage and are sad to be going home! Thank you so much. We’d move in permanently if we could!!!
Lovely cozy cottage with incredible views. The pictures provided didn’t do the house justice as found it was bigger than we thought, spacious kitchen with loads of room for supplies and well equipped with fully working appliances. The walk books in the living room were very useful for planning what we were going to do during the week. The house had easy parking for a large van with sufficient space to turn around. Well positioned accommodation which meant we were able to walk down to the beach and drive to the things we wanted to see easily! The cottage got good phone signal which meant we could use devices as normal. Tv and DVD player worked well the couple of times we watched television on the evening and there were no issues with reception. Thank you so much for the lovely stay and i would love to stay again! :)
Stunning location and views. Couldn’t fault what we found to be a very cosy and clean cottage with all amenities you could want. No idea what other reviews mean when they complain about the track. We were there in snow and hail and found it perfectly easy to drive on. Maybe other reviewers aren’t used to the outside world. Didn’t find the track steep, beach was walkable. Although we chose to drive, local shop was excellent and had everything we could need. Local takeaway (hungry gull) was great, reasonably priced and really accommodating! We had tv the whole time with not one issue. I also had 4G the whole time on EE. But neither the TV or the internet is why you go to Skye! We spend all day making the most of the outdoors, really close to the Quiraing mountain walks, close to old man of Storr, kilt rock and the beach. Spent the evenings cosy in front of the fire. Perfect location in my opinion! Wendy is a lovely host and great at communication. I want to buy the cottage!
Excellent location overlooking the beach with fantastic panoramic views. Ambers cottage is cosy, very clean and well equipped. Comfortable beds gave us a perfect night's sleep after days out sightseeing. Pet friendly with enclosed gardens (perfect for our pug). This is the 4th time we have stayed at Ambers cottage and it certainly won't be the last. A perfect retreat to escape and forget the current worries of the world. Would recommend anyone to choose to stay here.
Disappoint Booked with Sykes cottages for special birthday. The cottage very dated although clean and warm. TV set up is not acceptable balanced on the electric fire. Not a dining kitchen, the table is meant to be moved in and out very heavy and castors broken. No lamp in second bedroom and all fixtures of a poor quality / damaged however suite ok. Not sure where the pub was but we never found it?Did have views
One of the best holidays we have ever had! The cottage was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. Once our day exploring Skye was done, we found the cottage a home from home and very relaxing. The views were awe inspiring, with the Quirang to the front and an amazing view to the hills at the rear. We found Staffin an ideal place to stay as there were a couple of small shops for our essentials and only a 25 minute drive to Portree for excellent eateries and larger stores. Both of us can't wait to go back!
This was my first time going to Scotland, let alone anywhere as rural as Skye, but I had a wonderful experience! Amber’s Cottage was clean and tidy and had everything needed to accommodate myself, my friends and our dog. There is little signal on the island and at the cottage for your mobile phone and television; but this is not at all a reflection on the cottage, it was in fact a surprisingly welcome break from social media and the internet (and I’m speaking as a 26-year-old woman)! Plus, this enabled some quality time to spent with friends, distraction-free. There were a plethora of games supplied at the cottage for evening entertainment. My favourite part of this experience was standing outside in the garden, at night, with a pair on binoculars (which were already at the cottage) and looking up at the stars; I was in awe. The air is so clean and fresh, the beaches magnificent, Portree was a wonderfully quirky village within only a few miles of the cottage and close to the Old Man of Storr; we went finishing in Uig, travelled to the fairy pools and had a warm and cosy cottage to return to after a day well spent exploring. The cottage was spacious enough to accommodate 5 adults with its x2 bedrooms and a large living area, well-sized bathroom and large kitchen. I can’t wait to return and explore even more of this magical island. I will definitely be staying at Amber’s Cottage again.
As new visitors to Skye, we were a little apprehensive about what to expect. No need! The cottage is a lovely little home from home, very private and comfortable. All the amenities you would expect, including comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Small shop nearby and supermarket at Portree. The most amazing thing was the wildlife , we actually watched a golden eagle settle on a garden fencepost at the back of the cottage. Skye itself is awesome: very, very beautiful. Sea and mountain views make you feel alive, even at this time of year.
Not our first visit, have been many times. Cottage is lovely and clean, centrally heated so warm and toasty in winter, dog friendly, well equipped with everything you need, the silence is amazing, absolutely loved the peace and quiet, beautiful walks for the dog, local facilities are good although opening times are restrictive but if you want 24 hour supermarkets, pub crawls and nightclubs go to a big city!!!!!! This is an urban escape cottage, close to volcanic beach and Quarang, will definitely be back again.
The photography is deceptive, and old looking at the size of the bushes in the front garden. At time of booking, there was no mention of the very steep track going to the cottage, which is very, very badly maintained, full of pot holes and very bad to drive on. This would be very dangerous in bad weather. The path to the front of the cottage is very steep and is not good for negotiating if you have any sort of mobility problems. My sister fell over and luckily fell into one of the overgrown bushes, otherwise apart from a few cuts and bruises, it could have been a very different story. The garden is not well maintained, the boundary is very ramshackle. This is advertised as an enclosed garden, but if you have an adventurous dog, or a small dog, do not book (small dogs could get through the bushes). The kitchen utensils and white goods are very, very old (washing machine 2004, and the detergent drawer is very dirty), the seal on the fridge is broken, one of the knobs on the hob is burnt, the hobs will not light with the ignition, and the lighter provided does not work. Take matches. The vacuum is very reluctant to pick up anything. The sharp knives will only cut butter. There is no dishwasher. The TV reception is appalling, with constant re-tuning necessary. Even then, do not walk in front of the TV as you could lose the signal again. The description of the location is very deceptive. The walk to the slipway (no beach, could find no evidence of a beach at all), is about a 10 minute drive, NOT WALK. There is no pub within walking distance. The only positive thing I have to say about this cottage is that it is quite cosy and warm. This is the second cottage that I have been disappointed with though Sykes, with totally deceptive descriptions and photography. I would be very, very reluctant to book with Sykes again.
Can't really fault the cottage, comfy beds, slept really well. A hair dryer would have been appreciated, but otherwise the cottage was well equipped and clean. Photos a bit deceptive, we thought the sea was closer than it is, the 'beach' not very enticing. Not much in the way of local ammenities in the area, two shops which close quite early and don't open at all on a Sunday. No pubs, you have to go into Portree which is about 13 miles away on a single track road.
We enjoyed a 2 week stay here. The cottage has an amazing view of the Quiraing ridge and the beach. An easy 10-15 minute walk to the beach nearby, or a good walk down to the pier. The cottage was clean, tidy and suited all our needs. The owner and housekeeper were great at making sure we had all we needed. Shops nearby are limited and expensive. We did our big shop at Portree and then just topped up where needed nearby. Portree is about half an hour drive away. Had a fabulous stay here and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all. No wifi, and wifi is limited on the island, but detoxing is good every now and again!
Not very clean, bedroom light not working, shower not brilliant - kitchen table is a pull out with 4 chairs under which makes the kitchen difficult to work in - no hair dryer or welcome pack - beach is a good 15 minute walk although as all areas in Skye the views are stunning - Portree your best place to shop local are not good
A lovely Cottage in a beautiful setting, indeed perfect.
The cottage has wonderful views front and back and it was very peaceful and quiet.
We loved the cottage, the views from the windows were incredible. It was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed for cooking etc. In a fantastic location also. We would love to stay again next year.
Amber's Cottage was a lovely little place to stay. The cottage overlooks Staffin Bay and there are amazing views of the Trotternish Ridge to the left of the property. The local facilities and beach are within walking distance making the cottage perfectly situated. The cottage itself is simple but great. It is warm and cosy and well equipped.
The cottage was in a superb location and was perfectly adequate for our needs for a family holiday. We wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely go back to the same property. Skye is a truly stunning place to visit, cant wait to return.
