A cosy, end-terrace cottage situated in the quiet hamlet of Hownam, nine miles from the town of Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders. Comfortably furnished, Kirk Cottage makes an ideal peaceful retreat for two, where you can make a lovely cooked meal in the kitchen before enjoying it in the dining area, and then relax with a glass of wine in front of the woodburning stove in the sitting room. Outside, there’s an enclosed decked area, a perfect place to sit and unwind with a good book or dine alfresco after a day’s walking, cycling or round of golf, with the nearest course just ten miles away. There is also very limited light pollution here, so on crisp nights, why not settle to stargaze beneath the night's sky, before heading back inside to cosy up beside the fire? Situated on the edge of the Cheviot Hills, this wonderful cottage is a great base as there’s plenty of walking and cycling in the area, along with fishing on the nearby River Tweed, by local permit. The lovely Border towns of Jedburgh and Kelso are close by and are well worth a visit, plus there are a number of other excellent villages and towns to visit in the area, and Edinburgh is just over an hour’s drive away. This superb Borders cottage promises to be an ideal romantic break at any time of the year.

Reviews

A lovely little cottage in a delightfully quiet hamlet. If you want total peace and quiet and don’t mind being off the grid whilst in the cottage, it’s ideal. The surrounding hills were great for walking our two dachshunds and the small garden was nice to chill in during the early evening. The living room and bedroom were a good size but the kitchen just big enough for one person. The fridge is very small but we just about fitted our food in there for the 3 days. ( would not be big enough if we wanted to stay longer as we cook our own meals rather than eat out with the dogs). The staircase steps are very deep and there is no grab rail in the bath/shower, and although not a major problem for us, I think it should be made clear when advertising for anyone with mobility issues. All in all, we had a lovely, relaxing 3 days and would definitely go back for a short stay break.

Had a fantastic relaxing time at Kirk cottage.Stunning views and great walks .The cottage was beautifully clean and cozy with an amazing power shower. Chris and Jayne were on hand if we needed anything very attentive. Although the reception for the phone is poor in the hamlet as soon as you walk up to the village hall which is 50 yards away it was fine. Will definitely return!

Excellent 1 bedroom cottage in beautiful area. I stayed in there in the hot summer of 2018 but I'm sure it would be lovely at any time of the year! Many thanks Jayne and Chris.

The cottage was lovely and we lit a fire when it was cool and that made it all cosy. It is a lovely place to relax away from any hustle and bustle. I thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and my stay there.

A lovely, little hideaway retreat surrounded by beautiful farm land and scenery and perfect for a couple. We also took our 1 year old Labrador and she was perfectly safe in the enclosed rear garden.

The Cottage is set in a wonderful quiet hamlet with lovely countryside right outside the door. The Cottage itself was a real cosy retreat away from the usual frenetic life of major towns and cities. We enjoyed our stay and the owners who only live two doors up made us very welcome and our two dogs felt at home. Overall I would recommend this cottage to anyone who needs a retreat to recharge from the rush of life.

The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. It was very tastefully furnished and very clean and tidy. It was well equipped with everything you might need. The cottage was situated in a peaceful and quiet hamlet in the Sottish Borders where you can relax to the sounds of sheep baaing, cows mooing and the calls of owls and a variety of other birds.somewhere to get away from the stresses of everyday life. Fresh eggs for breakfast can be purchased from a cool box near the village hall.

The cottage was very comfortable and the scenery lovely. I had not visited the area before and found many places of interest, for example, Floors Castle, Jedburgh and Kelso amongst others.
