This attractive, stone-built, detached cottage is conveniently situated in a rural setting, on the outskirts of Llangynog village. The village rests at the foot of the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass, in the heart of the Berwyn Mountains in Powys. Charming and full of character, this cosy cottage welcomes you in through an open porch, which leads into the well-styled sitting room with comfy sofas and a woodburning stove set in a red brick inglenook hearth. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with a social dining area, and it also retains the original range with a feature oven and a further woodburning stove to provide character and warmth. Upstairs are two lovely double bedrooms with superb views across the valley, both offering some en-suite facilities in addition to the family bathroom, which has a bath and shower over. There is also door access off the landing into the rear garden. The property, a former lead miner’s cottage thought to date back to the 1820s, has been carefully modernised to retain original features where possible, whilst providing a modern country cottage feel throughout. Outside, the well-kept gardens to front and rear offer superb views down the Tanat Valley, and sunny seating areas to sit and relax, planning the activities for the coming days. The cottage is in a fantastic location for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and climbers, and a walk to Rhaeadr Waterfall should not be shirked, as it is the highest single drop waterfall in the UK. For a calmer walk, but equally as stunning, a trail leads from the cottage in the other direction to St Melangell’s Church, one of the remotest churches in Britain. Haulfryn is a superb cottage in a fantastic location for a relaxing break at any time of the year!

We booked this cottage after reading all the positive reviews. The cottage looks amazing from the outside and is very well equipped with things you would need, however it is extremely dirty used bars of soap and dirty nail brush’s were left in the bathroom, mouldy shower, cobwebs everywhere, the dirt /dust behind both bed was disgusting, the garden bench is very unsafe and not at all usable . Overall very disappointed as this is supposed to be a 4* rating we had to leave this cottage early as we could not stand another night init .
We stayed here over the Christmas week, it was fabulous. A Very well equipped cottage. The log burner was great, made it lovely & cosy. Plenty of books to read & a few games to play. Cottage is near Lake Vernwy & I can recommend the New Inn pub just a short walk away. Very reasonable priced menu. Area is great for walks & the views are fantastic. Over Christmas we had various weather from windy to frosty mornings to beautiful sunny days which was great as we went to Barmouth beach around an hours drive away. Lots of wildlife in the cottage garden from around 20 blue tits at a time, a couple of robins, pheasants & to top it off a woodpecker. Comfortable beds & the cottage well heated. The cottage does have a washing machine & fridge & also a dishwasher but we never used this as it was lovely to look outside the window at the birds.Would definitely recommend this cottage & I would go back there. The owner Chris was very helpful & informative.
This cottage was so homely, in fact we didn't want to come home! It has beautiful gardens, views, décor, layout, facilities and homely touches. A perfect week. We couldn't wait to get back to the cottage after a day out and also felt so comfortable there we actually didn't leave it some days. Just idyllic.
A beautiful cottage with fabulous gardens, in a wonderful setting. The owners are very friendly and approachable and their cottage is a little gem.
The location and garden were both exceptional.
A fab cottage and we will be returning!
Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.
This cottage was amazing; beautifully furnished, well stocked, and with lovely gardens with pots full of flowers.
The cottage was very homely, the kitchen was very well equipped, the beds were very comfortable and the en suite bathrooms were an extra luxury. The garden was extremely beautiful and the views were stunning. The owner of this cottage has gone to great lengths to ensure that all areas of the visitors stay have been catered for, and my only disappointment was not having a longer stay.
This was a wonderfully presented period cottage, well equipped and spotless. The surrounding gardens were stunning with views across the Berwyn Mountains. I have already sent the link for this site to 12 people, following my strong recommendations!!
We could not fault Haulfryn in any way whatsoever! We received a friendly welcome from the owner when we arrived on Friday afternoon. We do many dog friendly breaks in the UK and have to say this was one of the best equipped kitchens we have come across. The terraced garden and views at the rear of the property are just wonderful! And views in the front are spectacular! We loved it and will definitely be back!
